Three years ago in Sturgis, South Dakota, a chance meeting of two Florida residents (who actually live 15 miles apart), Stephen “Hot Shot” Aretz and Freddie Bollwage, paved the way to Daytona Bike Week and Billy Lane’s 2019 Sons of Speed Vintage Motorcycle Race. Freddie invited Hot Shot to the 2018 Biketoberfest Sons of Speed

Dated December 4, 2018     A senior Hells Angels member married the daughter of a notorious drug dealer this weekend in Montreal and everyone, including the Mafia, showed up.   The vibe at Montreal’s Windsor Ballrooms was somewhere between glitzy film premiere and rowdy biker party on Saturday evening.   Adjacent Peel Street was

LET THE RACES BEGIN…   Daytona Bike Week, New Smyrna Speedway Inspired by early 20th century board-track races the Sons Of Speed Race has motorcycles that are direct drive meaning no clutch or transmission (when the engine is running the rear wheel is turning) in what is called the 61 classes. Early 61s are the

Sons of Speed inspired by Billy Lane’s passion for the thrill of old school early board-track racing, took place under sunny skies during Bike Week. It was not far from the Cabbage Patch and other sandy camping hangouts at the New Smyrna Speedway. The ride over to the racetrack was beautiful, warm and sunny compared

Friday January 25th, my friend Allen and I loaded the bikes and headed to the Briar Creek Expo here in Charlotte. We loaded Allen’s 1952 K-model in the back of my truck, his 1984 XR-1000 in his van and my 82 Shovelhead in Cox’s Harley-Davidson trailer. We were on our way! This year’s show was

Editor’s Note: The Long Road Bedroll was conceived and designed by the Commander of the annual SmokeOut, the most rowdy event on the planet. I have ridden the Long Road to the SmokeOut several times with Edge, the mastermind. I know about the grassy knolls, the rained on fields and the shared motel rooms. Edge

This month’s Chapter coverage is from the LowCountry Chapter, Story by Richard Hinely November in Savannah, GA means it is time for the annual Victory Moto Show. This year’s event was held at Service Brewing Company on Indian Street in historic downtown Savannah.  This regional show is fast gaining national attention, and this year featured new retro-vintage bikes on

I have written before about motorcycle riding in West Virginia and why it is one of my favorite states to ride. I have to steal some of my own words and ideas from the past because they are still relevant. Straight roads are more efficient and as a society we lower the tops of peaks,

So Speed Week has come and gone at the Bonneville Salt Flats, but for those of us only interested in the two wheel variety of speed freak fun, the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials are just starting.     For me this is a bittersweet return. After many years away

But I received a call from the Supreme showman, Prince Najar. He was responsible for all the custom aspects at the IMS motorcycle show series for a decade and now he’s involved in the AMD show series. His partner, Bob Kay took over the IMS Show and I smell a conspiracy. Jeff organized custom elements

“F…ing lucky” is what I say, my better half says I make the luck. On this little rally jaunt I was one lucky devil. Both me and my ride ended up in the emergency room. On the trip east, coming into Junction City Kansas I saw the sign for City Cycle Harley Davidson,

The Mooneyes Speed Equipment shop and the cars and bikes date back to the beginning of hot rodding. I attend this small tight event every year I’m in California and not overseas chasing girls in Thailand, Hong Kong or Singapore. The car above was made in Japan and called Rodriquez. I talked to the guy

SMOKE-OUT 19 June 15–16 2018 It was that time of year again when the SMOKEOUT rolls into Rockingham North Carolina like a plaque of straight pipes against the humid lands. My son Zach and myself rode down; we even had a chase vehicle, my wife Vicki and our good friend Kris. The temperature was soaring

Over the last decade a community of alternative custom motorcycle builders has begun to form. With design teams and industry leaders from Ducati, BMW, Yamaha and Harley Davidson constantly watching and collaborating with these custom builders they have begun to create their own Custom Revolution. Custom Revolution brings together the most avant-garde and influential custom

Exercising the moral code of a Detroit hooker The Horse Magazineended its partnership with the Smoke Out Rally and then tried to convince theworld the event was not happening at all.It was a sucky situation but a Mark Twain quote comes to mind, “The rumorsof my death are greatly exaggerated.” This year’s Smoke

After a 24 hour van ride to a galaxy far, far away (aka New Jersey), we entered the new dimension in motorcycle events that just might be the savior of American motorcycling. My best bud and partner, Berry Wardlaw (“the engine guy”), side kick Dana Peters, Spike Johnson, and I set out to behold

I landed in Dallas, Texas and expected Rick Fairless to bring me a cup of coffee. Then I looked at the large ominous connecting flight screen and tried to find my gate. We are like meth-head ants scurrying around this metal maze looking for our assigned queen bee to take us to our chosen destination.

I’ve handled two bucket list items in the last six months. I made it to Cuba before McDonalds fast food joints spring up on every other corner. Then I ran into the opportunity to see New Zealand and deliver my mother’s ashes to her chosen resting place in the Eden Gardens, Auckland, North Island. No,

FEBRUARY 14, 2018   Results from the Chicago edition of the J&P Cycles Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show The weekend started with snow and it ended with snow.   After an absence of a year Jeff Brown was able to bring back the ColoradoMotorcycle Expo to the National Western Stockshow complex in Denver. Astandard feature was missing, no MCs were in attendance. The onlymotorcycle organization I saw was ABATE. The lack of the MCs did changethe mood a little, some thought it was

The last few years Cleveland Ohio has greeted the hardy motorcycleenthusiast with snow, slush and sub-zero weather. The J&P Cycles Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show produced

Okay, just a little update on this story. Somehow we either did not send it, or it got lost in Bandit’s stack of to-do items??? As of now, it looks as though BIG changes are headed for Smoke-Out 19? Talk of new sponsors, new events and more action to come! The SmokeOut has always
