SHRINKS VS. BARTENDERS– EVER SINCE I WAS A CHILD, I’VE ALWAYS HAD A FEAR OF SOMEONE UNDER MY BED AT NIGHT. SO I WENT TO A SHRINK AND TOLD HIM: ‘I’ve got problems. Every time I go to bed I think there’s somebody under it. I’m scared. I think I’m going crazy.’
‘Just put yourself in my hands for one year,’ said the shrink. ‘Come talk to me three times a week and we should be able to get rid of those fears.’
‘How much do you charge?’
‘Eighty dollars per visit,’ replied the doctor.
‘I’ll sleep on it,’ I said.
Six months later the doctor met me on the street.
‘Why didn’t you ever come to see me about those fears you were having?’ he asked.
‘Well, Eighty bucks a visit three times a week for a year is an awful lot of money! A bartender cured me for $10. I was so happy to have saved all that money that I went and bought me a new pickup!’
‘Is that so! With an attitude he asked. . . and how, may I ask, did a bartender cure you?’
‘He told me to cut the legs off the bed! – Ain’t nobody under there now ! ! ! ‘
SCREW THOSE SHRINKS.. GO HAVE A DRINK & TALK TO YOUR BARTENDER!

BOUAN RIDES BUELL 1125R TO FIM RALLIES CHAMPIONSHIP– Buell France Rider Wins Nine-Day Dark Dog Tour.
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (October 16, 2008) ? Buell France rider Denis Bouan rode a Buell 1125R to win the Dark Dog Tour and secure the 2008 FIM (F?d?ration Internationale de Motocyclisme) International Rallies Championship. Bouan won the Expert Multi-Cylinder class and was the overall winner with a cumulative stage time of 47 minutes 03.84 seconds. It was his third consecutive victory in the event.
The Dark Dog Tour is a nine-day, 3,200 km (1,988 mile) rally that began on September 27 and concluded on October 5. The route through France stretched from Reims to Toulon through Val de Reuil, Magny-Cours, Al?s and Corsica. The event included 17 special timed stages, on racing circuits and public roads, including two night stages. French motorcycle police escorted the event to ensure safety on public roads. Entry is limited to 220 competitors in a variety of classes. Only 164 racers completed the entire distance, which includes long stretches of riding in transition stages with little opportunity for sleep and strict penalties for timing errors and tardiness. Bouan rode a Buell 1125R to a second-place finish in the Belgian Moto Tour in May, and that result combined with his win in the Dark Dog Tour earned him the FIM International Rallies Championship.
?I am so happy to have won,? said Bouan. ?We had no problems whatsoever with the Buell 1125R. We succeeded in getting quickly ahead of our competitors, which enabled us to manage the end of the race. I took it very seriously in spite of being the leader. My IRC victory is mainly important for the team. This is one of the first victories at the international level for Buell and I think it highlights the capabilities and reliability of the Buell 1125R.?

Since their 1973 self-titled Double Platinum debut album, Aerosmith has been a consistent hit-making machine with 21 Top 40 hits, nine of which reached number 1. The Boston blues-based band has crossed hard rock, pop, heavy metal, glam and rhythm & blues genres.
The band has hits in each decade since the 1970s including: ?Sweet Emotion,? 1975; ?Dream On,? 1976; ?Walk This Way,? 1977; ?Back In the Saddle,? 1977; Dude (Looks Like a Lady),? 1987; ?Angel,? 1988; ?Love in an Elevator,? 1989; ?What It Takes,? 1990; ?Janie?s Got a Gun,? 1990; ?Livin? on the Edge,? 1993; ?Amazing,? 1994; ?Pink,? 1998 and ?Jaded? in 2001.

Aerosmith?s appearance at the Buffalo Chip will be another historic milestone for our annual Sturgis Rally party.?
Woodruff said Aerosmith has consistently been among the most requested acts for his Sturgis Rally concert series since it began in 1982. ?We?ve been very blessed that people associated with the band were able to visit the Buffalo Chip during the 2008 rally and told us they wanted to play here.?

WATER STUDY PROVES BOTTLED WATER AIN’T WHAT IT’S CRACKED UP TO BE– Wal-Mart and Giant Spermarkets are selling some water that is surprisingly similar to tap water. A Washington, DC-based environmental group has found several brands of bottled water sold across the U.S. are no better than tap water. Some are even worse.
The Environmental Working Group (EWG) found a ?surprising array of chemical contaminants? in the ten brands of bottled water it analyzed including Walmart, Sam?s Choice and Giant Supermarket?s Acadia brands.
Those two brands bore the ?chemical signature? of municipally treated water: chlorine disinfection byproducts and, in Giant water, fluoride.
?In other words, this bottled water was chemically indistinguishable from tap water,? said the report.
The report singled out Walmart in several instances and alleged that Sam’s Choice bottled water purchased at several locations in the San Francisco Bay area exceeded California’s legal limit for trihalomethanes (disinfection byproducts).
?These byproducts are linked to cancer and reproductive problems and form when disinfectants react with residual pollution in the water,? said the report.
Tap Water Put in Bottles Arcadia water contained chlorine disinfection byproducts and fluoride. (Courtesy of the Environmental Working Group) ?Las Vegas tap water was the source for these bottles, according to Walmart representatives,? it continued.
Walmart spokesperson Anna Taylor said the company was not commenting on the issue beyond a prepared statement because of legal issues.
In the statement, Walmart said it stands behind its bottled water and is ?puzzled? by the EWG?s findings.
But Nneka Leiba, one of EWG?s researchers with a master’s degree in public health from John Hopkins University, said the group stands behind their tests.
?We were surprised that the bottled waters looked so close to tap water, especially at the cost people are paying for them.? Multiple Companies Implicated
Walmart’s “Sam’s Choice” water exceeded California’s legal limit for trihalomethanes. (Courtesy of the Environmental Working Group) Leiba said EWG was not targeting any specific company and only the names of the Walmart and Giant Supermarket bottled water brands are being released because those are the only two that large samples were taken from.
She described their research as a ?snapshot? of the bottled-water market as it is today.
EWG conducted the study over two years and tested bottled water purchased in nine states and the District of Columbia. Their report says more than a third of the chemicals found are not regulated in bottled water. Four brands were contaminated with bacteria, it said.
Among the contaminants found in the ten brands tested were coliform bacteria, fertilizer, solvents, pain medication, and even strontium, a radioactive element.
In response, the organization is calling on the FDA to enforce stricter regulations.
The group also wants bottled water subject to the same regulations as tap water and for bottlers to share the results of tests of their products. Treatment techniques and the name and location of the source of the water should also be disclosed, said the report.
Nneka Leiba, researcher with the Environmental Working Group (Courtesy of the Environmental Working Group) ?The industry is not as protective as people think,? said Leiba, adding that EWG was not trying to be alarmist.
?We just don?t think the consumer should have any confidence with the bottled water industry. What?s in their bottle, they just don?t know.?
Consumers can get equal quality or better water from an activated carbon filter said Leiba, adding that reverse osmosis filtration was also good if you could afford it.

MIAMI-DADE JUDGE, ACCUSE OF INDECENT EXPOSURE, RESIGNS– Miami-Dade judge, accused of indecent exposure, resigns Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Douglas J. Chumbley resigned Thursday after he was accused of exposing his genitalia in a Starbucks bathroom stall at the University of Miami. Chumbley, 51, is facing a misdemeanor charge of indecent exposure.
He was in his final months as a juvenile division judge after losing his election bid in August. Chumbley will not fight the charge. Instead, said his attorney Mel Black, he will enter a pretrial diversion program for first-time offenders and the charge will be dismissed. Usually, that means rehabilitation classes.
Chumbley is not admitting to the charge but resigned to ”avoid the stress on his family from the spectacle of a drawn-out trial,” Black said. The Miami-Dade state attorney’s office, which filed the charge, did not specify who reported Chumbley after the Sept. 25 episode. He announced his resignation Wednesday in a two-paragraph letter sent to the governor’s office.
”It has been my distinct honor and privilege to serve the people of the State of Florida and Miami-Dade County,” Chumbley wrote. Chumbley, saying he was ill, had not been to court this week.
Miami-Dade’s chief judge, Joseph P. Farina, issued this statement Thursday: “Of course this news is distressing, but the law, including the presumption of innocence, applies to everyone no matter their station in life. Under the circumstances, Judge Chumbley’s personal decision to resign is appropriate as we strive to maintain the public’s trust and confidence in our courts.” Chumbley, a Palmetto Bay Republican, is married with two children.
Spokeswoman Karla Hernandez released a statement that stressed the school’s safety is enhanced by video surveillance and emergency phones topped with blue lights. ”Thanks to quick thinking, this incident was reported and followed up on immediately by University of Miami Police,” the statement said.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY, Women’s Ass Size Study– There is a new study just released by the British Psychiatric Association about women and how they feel about their asses. The results are pretty shocking:
1. Only 5% of women surveyed feel their ass is too big.
2. 10% of women surveyed feel their ass is too small.
3. The remaining 85% say they don’t care; they love him; he’s a good man and they would have married him anyway.

THE ROGUE BIKETOBERFEST REPORT–I was on Beach Street Thursday and it was dead. Who Knows maybe this will help. I still believe though that people are going to places less expensive than Daytona Beach and just going into town to visit.
Hotels are still more expensive than other times of the year. Beer is $6.00 a bottle on Main Street. $3.50 at the Iron Horse and $2.50 outside of town.
With the economy the way it is people are watching what they spend. Hey if you can stay at the same brand motel for $50.00 or more a day less by just going a few miles away that is saving that can be spent on other things.

COMMITTEE PICKS ROSSMEYER FOR PARK– DAYTONA BEACH ? A city selection committee has chosen Bruce Rossmeyer?s group, Biker Threads, as the vendor to lease Riverfront Park during Bike Week and Biketoberfest for the next five years.
But another group is now questioning whether the selection process was fair, because the Harley-Davidson giant?s group offered less money to the city to rent the park.
The city staff members on the selection committee provided several reasons for choosing Biker Threads. The selection is not final until the City Commission approves it.
This comes at a time when the city is planning new amenities at the park, such as water-light shows and community gardens.
In August, the city requested a proposal from a vendor willing to sell goods, put on entertainment and attract visitors to the areas of the park between Orange and Fairview avenues during the special events. In return, the proposal says the vendor should pay the city “a lump sum in an amount no less than $125,000 per year.”
Only two applications were submitted. Biker Threads, which includes Rossmeyer?s business partner Brian Holt, offered to pay the city $45,000 for the first year, increasing the rental fee by $10,000 for each of the following years.
Barry Sror, who travels the motorcycle-event circuit selling T-shirts and other products, offered the full price of $125,000. He said Tuesday that in a time of budget cuts, the city shouldn?t be taking less money, especially when he believes he can do just as good a job.
“If the City Commission decides it makes sense to look at the economic impact, we?re still interested,” said Sror?s business partner, Jim McMahon.
But Holt pointed out the fee was only 25 percent of the evaluation criteria. Experience with similar events was 30 percent, the quality of planned events 10 percent, being local was 10 percent and understanding city requirements was 25 percent.
Rossmeyer ran the event at the park for eight years, Holt said, paying the city $1 for the first year?s rent and around $225,000 for his last year. The hard feelings from the big rental fee prompted Rossmeyer to launch Destination Daytona, Rossmeyer?s headquarters along North U.S. 1, Holt said.
“But he realizes the importance of downtown, and he?d like see the park successful because it makes his business successful,” Holt said. “He just doesn?t want to pay the kind of money he used to pay.”
The groups offered different entertainment in their proposals. Sror?s application plans to extend the park activities until midnight, offering music, minor bands, comics and local musicians. Biker Threads closes at 9 p.m. and includes display trucks, a Frisbee dog show and a bike jumper show.
In an e-mail to city commissioners in July, City Manager Jim Chisholm wrote that he did not want to contract the park to a vendor, because “it has become a non-producing asset” and he thinks the city “should control the use of the park for the public.”
Though Rossmeyer and The Chamber, Daytona Beach/Halifax Area contacted city staff, he wrote, he preferred to park bikes there and not contract to vendors.
Though the agenda has not been released yet, the vote is expected to take place Oct. 1 before the City Commission. Sror won?t be able to attend due to the Jewish holidays, and McMahon will be out of town.

CANTINA GOOD NEWS–Under extreme pressure from Bikernet Readers, we added a Bandit’s Cantina Soap Opera episode, and I’m going to spend more time in Bars drinking heavily for research. Another world run chapter will hit the Cantina this week and today Rick Small sent a Digital Discovery that took place in Europe and involved vintage Indians and Vincents. Hang on for that one.

Yes, we almost finished a desk project in the shop. Since I don’t think anyone will buy this monster, it’s been relished to Panhead Bikernet patio furniture. Ah, I love class motorcycle patio furniture and this puppy will take the cake.

This coming week we’re facing a hefty build-up of biker fiction that needs to be read, edited and posted. We also have a one-of-a-Kind tech on the all-new kick-only electric starter configuration.

Three bike features are headed your way, a Sinner girl Triumph Bobber, Phil Racer’s classic Panhead chop and two Softails from Johnny Humble in Texas. There’s a report on a Mexican Terror run in our in-box, “I’ll never venture south of the border again,” said the writer. Plus the Coast-to-Coast Legislative news just arrived from the AIM gang and Bill Bish. If you have an accident, need any help, including a tow or a lift home call the AIM guys. Of course they’re hoping to get your legal business, but that’s the name of the game.
