Hey,
Crazy, I flew over to Salt Lake to check out the world finals, and all hell breaks loose. Maybe it had something to do with Karma and Cars. Perhaps us bikers should stay away from our 4-wheeled brethren? The World Finals, sanctioned and operated by the SCTA (Southern California Timing Association) was cool. But hang on, you’ll see the Love Ride was canceled. Cycle World Magazine faced a major shake-up.

But there’s also good news. Saxon Motorcycles are back in the running. Viper is kicking off, even in this stinky economy. And our dogs still love us, but let’s cover the World Finals. This is a car and bike event. There were just 147 entrants, about a third are motorcycles. It’s run differently and some say more efficiently than Bubs, so we had to check it out. This event is not as close to Sturgis as the Bubs event, and the weather is generally cooler. The salt conditions were perfect and the event seemed very laid back. They run the track one way and back-up runs are all made the following day, except the last day of the event.

We are trying to figure out our schedule for next year. Should we go to Sturgis and Bubs? Should we pass on Sturgis and hide in the desert south of the Buckskin Mountains and West of the Vulture range on a run to an unknown town of Salome, Arizona, then attend the World Finals in October for more time and cooler climes? So many questions, so little time. Something tells me 2010 is going to be a big year. Let’s hit the news.

NEW QUICK THROTTLE ISSUE ON THE STREETS– The new issue of Quick Throttle hit the streets last week. There’s a Fatboy, a cowboy, an Indian, and a Rockstar. God I love this job…. That is except for days like yesterday, when we learned of the cancellation of the world-famous “Love Ride.” We were as shocked as anyone, and really feel for all involved. Oliver and his staff, all the volunteers, and especially the kids and the charities that will not benefit this year.
We also take a good look at “Reader Rides”. And if you’ve gone on a great ride and took a few cool pictures, tell us about it. Send your input to editor@quickthrottle.com.

BIKERNET FORUM BOSS LANDS FULLTIME EMPLOYMENT– Hey, Hope all is well down there. My new job is a good one, but it’s kickin’ my ass. After 7 months of being a fucking layabout I’m having trouble getting back in the game. Gonna be traveling my ass off starting next week. That’s actually a good thing. HQ is a 2+ hour commute from my house.

LASALLE PARISH DOWN ON BIKERS– Date: Friday, October 9, 2009, 10:30 AM: Well I have never seen so many emails or heard so many motorcycle riders bitch, gripe and complain this much about anything. Maybe the Law Enforcement in Lasalle Parish will be what we NEED to get motorcycle riders to pull TOGETHER and STAND UP for YOUR RIGHTS. Yes, this has pissed everyone off and a lot of people want to ride through Lasalle Parish and have a SHOW OF FORCE.
This will only make matters worse at this time. The Confederation of Clubs has already put their lawyers working on this issue. If we are going to make any changes, we have to use the LAWS that protect our RIGHTS. Failing to plan is planning to fail.
Law Enforcement, Military Generals, Business owners plan every day. Now it’s YOUR time to plan on coming to the COC meeting at Brewzerz on October 25th at 2pm. We need all MROs, M/Cs, R/Cs, ABATE chapters and Independence to PLAN on attending.
I have said it a million times, we CAN NOT get motorcycle riders together for anything. Everyone remembers Michel Bell, Al Sharpton & Jessie Jackson. They rallied 20 thousand people to march on Jena for a life long criminal of the age of 17 with great success. Al Sharpton used the LAW to get his message to the world and we MUST do the same. We CAN NOT take matter into our own hands, we MUST use the LAW.
If we are going to change the LAW, we need to get motorcycle riders into Public Offices. We need to run for City Council, Mayor, Senate, Representative, Governor, Police Jury or even Dog Catcher. If we start putting OUR people in office, we CAN make changes. We need our own Al Sharpton to fight for MOTORCYCLE RIGHTS. The first Riders of The Storm bike rally in Alexandria was a great success.
The Chamber of Commerce said that we brought 2.2 million to the local economy that weekend. After the first one, our local Law enforcement, Churches and Public Officials shot the next rally down like a sitting duck and WE did NOTHING but tuck our tail and run because we couldn’t get motorcycle riders to STAND UP. Now it TIME, STAND UP and come to the next COC meeting and lets all WORK TOGETHER and make these CHANGES.
Live Free, Ride Free and Pray Free. it’s YOUR RIGHT.

ARIZONA RIDING SEASON KICKED OFF, Get your motor runnin’ kicker or not– Yup, its that time of year again in the southern deserts of this beautiful country: Riding season is kicking off. Technically still in the northern hemisphere (trust me, the toilets flush clockwise even in Arizona), the enjoyable riding weather is just beginning while people in other parts of the country are getting out the warm sweaters and heavy leathers. The event calendar for Southern California, Arizona and Nevada keeps getting longer with the shadows, bike traffic is noticeably picking up, and the stores are getting busy again.

We stopped by at Renegade Classics in Phoenix for the Riding Season Kick Start Party they held together with the neighbors from Beyond Bodyz. Launched in Fresno, California back in 1990, the Renegade Classics Motorcycle Clothing Company started out as an apparel store catering exclusively to the Harley, cruiser and V-twin bikers. Since then, they have built a network of over 40 licensed stores nationwide, offering high quality goods at reasonable prices. In addition to their own line of screen printed shirts and tees, Renegade Classics offers leathers from First and Unik, goggles, helmets, gloves and much more. Especially for the ladies, they also carry a selection of Bikerlicious apparel.

When we arrived the parking lot was already packed, the bike show in full swing and the first gals were getting ready for the bikini contest slated for 1 pm. A quick walk through the well attended people’s choice bike show revealed a couple of old friends and some garage builds, all of them of high quality and in very diverse styles from old school to performance oriented to simply individual. After all was said and done, Nathan Zeller from Ironhorse Corral, a local American motorcycle and Harley repair shop in Phoenix took home first prize and got to pose with the gals from the bikini contest on his ride.

It is official, and not only because the guys at Renegade Classics had their party: Riding season has arrived in the sandy south, the thermometer finally keeps it below the triple digits and the events are starting to heat up everywhere. You gotta love this time of year.

BIKERNET ENGLISH DEPARTMENT, Word of the Day– reverie REV-uh-ree, noun:
1. A state of dreamy meditation or fanciful musing.
2. A daydream.
3. A fantastic, visionary, or impractical idea.
4. Music. An instrumental composition of a vague and dreamy character.
Walking seems to have become Rousseau’s chosen mode of being because within a walk he is able to live in thought and reverie, to be self-sufficient, and thus to survive the world he feels has betrayed him.
— Rebecca Solnit, Wanderlust: A History of Walking
Reverie is from Middle English, revelry, from Old French, from rever, to dream.
Hell, I’m lost in reverie anytime I’m on a long ride across the country.–Bandit

CARB-Harassed Dealer: We Broke No Law– California dealer Balz Renggli says the state’s Air Resources Board is wrongly accusing his store, Moto Forza in Escondido, of once marketing modified dirtbikes as streetbikes, then registering them for street use. The allegations led to a $90,000 settlement in April.
What really happened, Renggli says, is that the Department of Motor Vehicles insisted on registering unmodified Husqvarna dirtbikes as streetbikes. Moto Forza employees, he says, informed customers that the bikes were not street-legal, regardless of their registration.
CARB brought a lawsuit against Moto Forza in 2006 for units sold in 2004 and 2005.
“Even today, in 2009”, Renggli wrote in statement, “I can turn in a completely and correctly filled-out application for registration for a 2009 off-highway-only Husqvarna motorcycle, and the DMV will issue a license plate and street registration. We have to stop the DMV clerk every time and argue to make sure we receive an off-highway registration. So what this comes down to is that the CARB felt it had the right to extort money from us because we did not make sure that the DMV did their job correctly.”
Renggli also claims CARB misrepresented what happened when it issued a press release in August stating that Moto Forza had been “fined” $90,000 for street-registering dirtbikes by modifying them. CARB never fined Moto Forza, Renggli says, because the case never went to trial.
“We ended up settling the case as the legal costs to pursue the matter would have cost more than the settlement amount”, he says. “Unlike most other trials where the losing party has to cover the legal cost of the winning party, CARB has complete immunity. Even if we would have won the case in court, we would still have to pay our own legal costs, and that simply became financially not feasible”.

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER HEALTH ALERT, Better than a Flu Shot!– Miss Beatrice, The church organist, Was in her eighties And had never been married. She was admired for her sweetness And kindness to all. One afternoon the pastor Came to call on her and she showed him into her quaint sitting room.
She invited him to have a seat while she prepared tea. As he sat facing her old Hammond organ, The young minister Noticed a cut glass bowl Sitting on top of it. The bowl was filled with water. Floating on the top was, of all things, a condom!
When she returned With tea and scones, They began to chat. The pastor tried to stifle his curiosity About the bowl of water and its strange floater, but soon it got the better of him and he could no longer resist.
‘Miss Beatrice’, he said, ‘I wonder if you would tell me about this?’ Pointing to the bowl.
‘Oh, yes,’ she replied, ‘Isn’t it wonderful? I was walking through the Park a few months ago, and I found this little package on the ground.. The directions said To place it on the organ, keep it wet and that it would prevent the spread of disease. Do you know, I haven’t had the flu all winter.
