Hey,
Another interesting weekend. Unlike bikers, it’s easy for regular folks to live docile, sedentary lives. They avoid disappointment. I love the creative side, but it puts me in the position of facing the blues from time to time, like that paint job we’ve been drooling over. When we picked it up, we weren’t dazzled. That’s just an example.I like my paint, but I’m not sure about the seat.

If I communicate well, work with talented artisans and roll the dice, about 90 percent of the time I’m dazzled with the outcome. The other side of the coin is desire. If we have the drive, anything is possible. And of course there’s always plan B. In other words, changes are always an alternative with research and patience.

So here’s the first run at the inaugural Chance Hogan book cover. Let me know what you think. Let’s hit the news:

LAS VEGAS BIKE FEST AIRS EASY RIDER II FOR THE FIRST TIME– Attached please find the text for ‘Easy Rider: The Ride Back’, the first impressions of the first ever screening of the upcoming movie. Cast and crew are a bunch of great people and it has been a pleasure spending time with them. The publicist on the other hand sucks (I am not the only one thinking that), therefore I have to apologize for the question marks in the captions. The cheat sheets they handed out are bad photocopies and incomplete. The main actors are identified and nobody should be offended for being left out…
Bikefest wrap-up to follow on the heels.

We’ll bring you Carsten’s full Movie Review tomorrow. Hang On!–Bandit

THE BIKERNET ENGLISH DEPARTMENT WORD OF THE DAY– adjuvant AJ-uh-vuhnt, adjective–
1. Serving to help or assist; auxiliary.
2. Assisting in the prevention, amelioration, or cure of disease.
noun:
1. A person or thing that aids or helps.
2. Anything that aids in removing or preventing a disease, esp. a substance added to a prescription to aid the effect of the main ingredient.
3. Immunology. a substance admixed with an immunogen in order to elicit a more marked immune response.
Some people think the benefit of screening is huge, and others say that the reduction in death rates is due primarily to adjuvant therapy, Berry says. No one has known for sure, and although we still don’t know for sure, this is the best set of analyses that is possible given the available information.

BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR FROM MOTORBOOKS, RIDING ON THE EDGE– The life and times of the 1960s has been thoroughly documented from many perspectives; from the student protesters, to the hippies to the tree huggers. For the first time, however, readers can experience the 1960s through new eyes: Riding On The Edge: A Motorcycle Outlaw’s Tale by John Hall. This exceptionally written book takes readers deep inside the world of the 1960s Pagans Motorcycle Club, once referred to by the FBI as “the most violent criminal organization in America”.
Hit the open road with John Hall and explore the turbulent world of 1960s bike club culture. From his initiation into an upstart motorcycle club to earning the title of Long Island chapter president of the Pagans and continuing his journey into the Pagan heartland of Pennsylvania where he fell in love, got in a roadhouse brawl over a honky-tonk angel, and eventually went to jail for “takin’ care of club business.” This unparalleled account of a culture rarely documented provides readers with the good, the bad and the ugly.
While in prison, Hall earned 2 degrees and used his skills and insight teaching at the college level and eventually become a syndicated political columnist and journalist. Through this book, Hall returns to the violent days of his youth and smashes up stereotypes like he once smashed up bars, resurrecting long-dead brothers, in a style reminiscent of Jack Kerouac and Mark Twain.
Hall presents them as they really were: hard living, hard loving, hard drinking, hard fighting rebels, but also hardworking, patriotic, loyal, and lovable characters, and a band of brothers whose outlandish behavior forged an all-American outlaw legend in the tradition of Jesse James, Doc Holliday, John Dillinger, and Pretty Boy Floyd. Outlaws, yes…but outlaws as American as apple pie.

Taxpayers to foot SA bikers’ legal bill
South Australian taxpayers (via the Government) will pay the legal bill for two bikers who challenged and beat the South Australian government in its bid to dismantle outlaw motorcycle clubs (and other declared organisations). The SA Supreme Court ordered the State Government to pay the court costs of two Finks motorcycle club members – Sandro Totani and Donald Hudson.
The pair challenged control orders made against them under the state’s Serious and Organised Crime Control Act (SOCCA) 2008, arguing they were unconstitutional. The Full Court of the SA Supreme Court declared the control orders, made under section 14.1 of the Act, invalid.
A lawyer for the Finks, Craig Caldicott, told reporters outside the court he expected the Finks’ legal bill would cost the State Government tens of thousands of dollars. “(Adjudication) is for the cost to either be agreed, or a master of the Supreme Court will go through it and mediate it to work out the costs,” he said. Attorney-General Michael Atkinson vowed to win’ the war against bikers’, saying the government was considering a High Court challenge to Friday’s ruling and would move to amend the legislation. The ruling has cast doubt on similar anti-biker/anti-association laws elsewhere in Australia.

CONFEDERATE MOTORCYCLES ON THE SALT–The Sodium Assault– Our circa ?09 Bonneville Salt Flats sojourn was the most memorable to date. Our Arabic 1 pre-production prototype fired a mere 96 hours prior to hitting the Salt.
The sodium assault was indeed hard as we ran several 155+ mph passes. Please understand that this represents a one mile average on conditions which were sticky and wet compared to the ideal. I made a call to change gearing early in the week when a bump in the rev limiter was a more appropriate choice. Had I made the right decision, it is likely we would have surpassed our own record set on the Wraith in 08.
Nevertheless, a very smooth riding, easy to start, linear to modulate, vibration free, raw, naked confederate that will run 155.8 mph on wet salt is something we can all be proud of. The fact that it was accomplished on the first build of the Fighter model production run calibrating less than 10 miles on the odometer is cool. The fact that the same machines was tested on the Race Tech chassis dyno and determined to be the truest and straightest of the 360 OEM machines previously evaluated thereon is an accurate validation of the precision which our design and craft team brings to the business of creating the greatest American motorcycle it is possible to make.

The family and friends component of the annual event grew considerably this year. Conversations revolved around all manner of things, transcending the lust for speed on racing?s most hallowed ground into areas both frivolous, serious and outright amusing in a ?you had to be there? kind of way.

We have a top secret game changing initiative for 2010. Please stay tuned; you will be glad you did!

GLORY DAYS ON THE SALT– I thought I’d send along a bit of fun from the Bonneville Salt Flats Glory Days. Mickey Thompson breaks 400MPH!

For you motorcycle racing fanatics like myself look at the 8min. 40sec. time on the video. Mickey Thompson speaking to Chief steward Petrali. yes, that’s Joe Petrali, who worked for USAC at Bonneville after his multi championship motorcycle racing career. A bit of info.
I just learned is that Petrali was also the flight engineer on Howard Hughes’ “Spruce Goose”.

Hey, you might like to watch the 6min. mark on the film; where they “hand groomed” 11 miles!! This video shows a great piece of racing history. ENJOY! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pClv-XwBVOs As a boy I along with my father loved following the racing of Mickey Thompson, Craig Breedlove, and others in their quest for speed. I feel so blessed to be now working at the famous Bonneville Salt Flats, myself. –Drew
