BIKERNET WILD TURKEY SUNDAY POST – LEE PARKS TOTAL CONTROL, HOG BLASTER FROM H-D, JOKES FROM EVERYONE AND MORE…

Hey,

I get nervous when I’m not in love, not building or riding a motorcycle or don’t have content daily to post on Bikernet. Last week the jitters hit me. I didn’t have any features ready to post. I leaned on Roland Sands to finish his Softail Feature. It will sport all his custom products to electrify Softails. Although his assistant Lauren tried to hook up all the elements we couldn’t make it fly.

You’ll see, as this Sunday Paper comes together, these Bandit afflictions are like the 24-hour flu. I’m stung, feel like shit, drink heavily, work in the shop, eye a new sweetie and the next day all is well again. Next week will be packed with new info, techs, stories and features. I’ll explain more at the end, but let’s hit it. There’s a ride, a brunette and a margarita waiting somewhere on the coast:

HARLEY-DAVIDSON SPONSORS 2nd ANNUAL FRESH COAST BASKETBALL CLASSIC– Harley-Davidson Motor Company will serve as a Presenting Sponsor for the 2nd Annual Fresh Coast Basketball Classic. The event will bring four Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s) to downtown Milwaukee Nov. 28 and 29 for a basketball tournament held at the U.S. Cellular Arena. Games will begin each day at 1 p.m.

Participating schools include Talladega College (Alabama), Morehouse College (Georgia), Elizabeth City State University (North Carolina) and defending Fresh Coast Classic champion Central State University (Ohio).

On Friday, Nov. 28, the Classic will feature a college and career fair where students can visit with representatives from participating schools as well as other colleges and universities. Representatives from Harley-Davidson will be on-hand to discuss career opportunities with students. The fair is free and open to the public from noon until 5 p.m.

“The inaugural Classic was a great success and we are proud to again support this great family event,” said Harold Scott, Harley-Davidson, Vice President Human Resources and Fresh Coast Classic Chairman. “The Classic inspires young people to learn about their education options in a fun way and exposes them to the athletes and alumni of four great institutions of higher learning.”

In addition to sponsorship and educational support, Harley-Davidson will extend an invitation for attendees to experience the Harley-Davidson brand by providing product information and displays.

The inaugural tournament in 2008 showcased the city of Milwaukee to new and diverse visitors and duplicated the success of HBCU sporting events taking place in Indiana, Kentucky and other southern states. In addition to Ohio, the inaugural event featured teams from Louisiana, Tennessee and Oklahoma.

“Harley-Davidson’s leadership makes the Fresh Coast Classic a success,” said Synovia Youngblood, Chief Executive Officer of the Classic. “Milwaukee is incredibly fortunate to have a company like Harley-Davidson championing this important community event.”

For information on tickets and schedule of events visit the Fresh Coast Classic Web site at www.freshcoastclassic.org.

LATEST STUDY FROM THE BIKERNET MEDICAL LAB– The Allergists voted to scratch it, and the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves.

The Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it, but the Neurologists thought the Administration had a lot of nerve, and the Obstetricians felt they were all laboring under a misconception.

The Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted. The Pathologists yelled, ‘Over my dead body!’ while the Pediatricians said, ‘Oh, Grow up!’

The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, the Radiologists could see right through it, and the Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing.

The Internists thought it was a bitter pill to swallow, and the Plastic Surgeons said, ‘This puts a whole new face on the matter.’

The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but the Urologists felt the scheme wouldn’t hold water.

The Anesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas, and the Cardiologists didn’t have the heart to say no.

In the end, the Proctologists left the decision up to some assholes in Washington!

THE 5-BALL RACING MYSTERY BONNEVILLE RACER PROJECT BREAKS OUT–Yes we have another Bonneville project beside the Assalt Weapan and the 45-flatty Bonne Belle. We don’t even have a name for it and we don’t have the slightest idea when it might run. It’s based on a 1929 Peashooter from Mil Blair and an overhead-valve engine from Billy Lane. Todd’s Cycle is working on the frame and Dennis, from Todd’s, is working on the tank. I have a 500 Triumph Transmission and here’s a report from Rodan, Sierra Madre Motorcycle restoration expert. He’s rebuilding the engine:

Peashooter2

“Well, since the cyl. head bolts were trying to be permanent, I decided to try and pull the cyl. and head off together. I got three cyl. base bolts loosened, but couldn’t get a good bite on the 4th. Mag in the way. Had to pull the gear cover to pull the mag. Because the cams were holding a valve open, I needed to turn the crank to a spot where both valves were closed, to take the valve spring load off the lifters/cams.

Finally found a nut that fit the sprocket shaft, screwed it on and tried to turn the crank. Stuck. Hmmmmm. With a lot of patience and finess that only comes with age, I pried the cam cover off with screwdrivers. With it off, I found the reason the thing won’t crank over. See Pix. Okay, can still get the mag off and then cyl nut off and cyl off and measure it. Hmmm, metric nut. Got it off, gear is stuck, spelled STUCK.

Tune in next time, when this will come to you from beautiful Monrovia at my secret and hi tech shop where I have a small gear puller.

VERONA INTERNATIONAL CUSTOM SHOW TO OFFER TWO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP PRIZES– As announced three months ago, AMD is backing the Motor Bike Expo (January 16th to 18th) as its exclusive World Championship of Custom Bike Building Official Affiliate event for the Italian market.

Amdshow

More news about the format of the Affiliate event was promised at the time of the announcement and we can now confirm that, as with the London International Custom Show (Earl’s Court, London, May 23/24 2009) the Verona International Custom Show will offer two prizes of 5.000,00 euro (US $8,500.00) expenses contribution towards the cost for two winners to compete at the Sturgis/Champions Park based 6th annual Official World Championship in August 2009.

One prize will be awarded to the ‘international’ builder judged to have brought the best bike to the show, and one to the best Italian builder. This formula has been developed to help show organizers attract leading ‘international’ builders and their current projects to their events, while still promoting the custom bike building market in their own country.

With many of Italy’s leading custom bike builders and custom dealers already confirmed for the Verona International Show at Motor Bike Expo, and both Custom Chrome and Zodiac confirming that ‘Verona’ is to be their custom expo of choice for the Italian market in 2009, it would appear that much of the initial confusion triggered by the decision to switch venue is now resolving itself.

The AMD World Championship team will also be at Motor Bike Expo to scrutinize and judge the Verona International Affiliate awards. With the additional backing of Freeway Italia and LowRide Magazine, Motor Bike Expo is expected to continue the success that organizers Francesco Agnoletto and Paula Somma enjoyed for so many years at Padova, and that the market will see the ‘Verona International Custom Show’ take its place alongside Europe’s other great custom bike events as a ‘must see’ weekend for builders, dealers and custom bike enthusiasts alike.

All inquiries about Motor Bike Expo can be made via the new event website, and questions about the World Championship Affiliate Awards and custom bike shows at the event can be made to Neil Blaber, World Championship Program Director, at neil@amdchampionship.com.
