FIERY SUNDAY POST–FIRES BURN CALIFORNIA, THE ECONOMY BURNS THE REST OF THE WORLD, RIDE FOREVER

lead

Hey,

With ashes dropping all over the coast I worked on the mudflap girl project, installing a Spyke charging system and a Rivera Primo belt drive system in a stock primary. I’m going to have some fun with the vented outer primary and mudflap girls. More reports coming shortly.

Here’s my tech question of the day. I don’t like installing stator plugs in Evo cases. I always feel tentative about driving them through that thick aluminum portion of the left case. What’s your best tip? Let me know how your do it and if you lube it first? (
E-Mail Bandit ). Let’s hit the news, so I can have a margarita and return to snorting ashes in the shop.

JON TOWLE, BIKERNET REPORTER INVESTIGATES THE FIRE LINE WITH 2009 FATBOY–When I woke up this morning the hills were out of control. My sister was in a panic and couldn’t leave work, so she asked if I could see what was happening up there where she lives. I rode up to Yorba Linda, California to check out her place. It was very sad. A lot of people lost their homes, but not my sister. The cop’s at roadblocks were not in a good mood. “Get that fucking thing out of here,” is the kind words sent in my direction from our fine boys in blue.

At the gas station, locals were doing a run on the place, filling up to get the hell out of Dodge. You can’t really see “big red”, the ’09 Fat Boy I’m testing right now because the smoke was very heavy. I really felt for all those people. It was like a night mare up there. But, of course, I made it out just dandy.

I aint kidding, it’s nothing like on the news…it’s much worse. Now I’m a bit concerned about it heading south where Sam (Jon’s daughter) is staying with the ex. Tonight we are prepping our house for possible evacuations for my sister and her two sons and possibly Sam and the ex. probably not, but better to be ready just in case.

We got the hell out of the Smokies PDQ and back to some Florida reality.

BIKERNET/ROLLING SIXES/ BIKERS CHOICE CHRISTMAS T-SHIRT DRIVE FOR VETERANS IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN–I know its been a while since the last update for the T-shirt drive but I have lots of good news to share! We have received loads of shirts and they keep coming in. There has also been some great contributions towards shipping! After going through the shirts we have received here I have confirmed nearly 500 shirts in our hands to be wrapped and sent out! I also have another 400 confirmed from the Hot Rods Inc Girls that they have collected already.

I checked my email after getting back from a Veterans memorial I received another message from Liz with the Hot Rod Girls that she is to be receiving a package of another 200 shirts! This year has been an awesome one for our Shirt drive with over 1,000 shirts so far and more still coming in!

BIKERS CHOICE BANNER

There has also been some great news with help covering the shipping! Thanks to the help of Keith “Bandit”, Bikers Choice has agreed to help with a significant portion of the Shipping bill and with the collections from the Hot Rods Inc Girls and the Tamiami Veterans Association shipping should now be covered.

I am also making progress on our list of Troops to send packages too. While I was at the Memorial service we also had an opportunity to chat with Max (Tamiami Veterans) about getting all these shirts wrapped and packaged and will be making final arrangements for that this week. I would also like to thank everyone who helped with all the awesome donations of shirts, hats, magazines, and all the other cool items that have been sent in!! We are still collecting shirts till Nov. 22 and you can send them to:

Custom Chrome Announces Permanent Price Reductions on REV TECH ENGINES AND DRIVELINE COMPONENTS– MORGAN HILL, CA ? Date: 11-07-2008 This is NOT a Sale! ? Custom Chrome is proud to announce the permanent price reduction of its RevTech Engines and Driveline Components. In an effort to further support our dealer network and customers, Custom Chrome has put this reduced price program into effect on a permanent basis. These prices are in effect IMMEDIATELY and include both the Euro 3 and EPA Certified Engines.

This reduction is designed to achieve maximum value for the product line without compromising its margin value to the selling dealer. ?This is a worldwide effort and will go into effect by both Custom Chrome and Custom Chrome Europe,? said Steve Veltri, Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

While other company?s have been forced to increase pricing due to rising raw material prices and an unstable economy, Custom Chrome is able to pass on the savings it has achieved with its suppliers and further support the customer. ?We felt it was important to give back to those that have been loyal and longstanding customers,? said Holger Mohr, CEO of Custom Chrome. Custom Chrome will continue to sell these products through its dealer network and not shortcut the supply chain and relationships it has established through deceptive practices or selling retail direct.

?This is not an increase in complete engine inventory alone. We have included a substantial investment to ensure transmissions transmissions, belt drives, replacement and service items are available to support these products in the dealerships and on the street? said Mohr.

Visit www.customchrome.com for more details and find a dealer near you using our dealer locator.

Long fork chopper takes World Championship Affiliate Event win at Bigtwin Show– First seen at the Twin Club’s Custom Bike Show at Norrtalje, Sweden, in June, Lasse Sundberg’s Indian Power Plus engined chopper improved on its joint third placing there by scooping the win at the latest round in the 2009 Official World Championship’s international affiliate event program.

The Big Twin Bikeshow & Expo (formerly ‘MotorSale’) in the Netherlands is one of Europe’s best established and well respected custom bike events, and one with the emphasis very much on running bikes.

In a field that saw anything up to seven or eight bikes in with a chance of scooping the top prize, with several former European and World Championship competitors entered, Sundberg’s twin upswepts, Redneck Engineering framed chopper powered onto the stage to the acclaim of a crowd of more than fifteen hundred who had gathered to see the awards.

The event as a whole co-hosts Zodiac International’s annual Dealer Show, with Zodiac generously sponsoring the Bigtwin Bikeshow (as they have done for years) and, along with Harrison Billet, putting up class prizes.

AMDbike
The winning bike features an Indian Power Plus engine with twin upswepts, a Redneck Engineering frame and 42in forks! (photo credit: Onno Wieringa – Madness Photography.

Our thanks go to Margot Gerritsen and the team at Bigtwin Magazine for staging yet another fantastic weekend and helping to make the World Championship’s second affiliate year in the Netherlands such a great success.

Thanks to Bigtwin Magazine, Sundberg wins a 5,000 Euro (approx US$8,500) cash contribution towards the costs of competing at AMD’s 6th annual Official World Championship of Custom Bike Building.

The Bigtwin Bikeshow & Expo drew most of Europe’s major parts and accessory manufacturers and distributors, and many American vendors, and despite some reports that dealer attendance was lower than the event sometimes sees, the organizers say that overall attendance for the three-day event was around the same as last year, at something in the region of 20,000 custom riders and enthusiasts.

FROM THE GROSS SELF PROMOTION FILES, ADVERTISER UPDATE–“The Streetwalker site has been averaging about 45,000 visits a month so the traffic to the site has been pretty strong in spite of the economy,” said Terry, the Boss of Envy Cycle. “On the topic of web sites and traffic, Bikernet was the second largest referring site sending traffic to the Streetwalker site in Oct. First was Google so I guess that shows the importance and relevance of Bikernet. If I’ve forgotten to say thank you for all that you do for us lately……..thank you for everything you do it’s really appreciated.”

THE WEEKLY GUN CODE– The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in defense. (waiting for attack)

The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either.. The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.

1. Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he’ll just kill you.
2. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.
3. I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.
4. When seconds count, the cops are just “Minutes” away.

LIFE IS BANANAS–I need to sweep ashes, dust off gargoyles and patch the roof. Then I’ll work on motorcycles and drink Jack Daniels. I’m sorta spinning right now. I’ll back off on what’s really going through my mind and touch on a couple of artistic efforts. Above is Larry Grossman’s latest unique art project. Hopefully I’ll see him in January at the Grand National Hot Rod Show.

Chriskallasblog

Chris Kallas took a lesson from Ed Roth’s Choppers mag to promote his blog. He’s going to create one of these a month to promote his site. Very cool artwork. Chris is the official artist of Bikernet and 5-Ball racing. Check his blog.

I don’t know whether it’s the ashes in the shop or the eerie gray skies hanging over LA, but she’s pissed off at me. I’ll leave that alone and try humor.

japanese invention

Here’s one of the latest inventions from across the Pacific. Speaking of products, a builder called me the other day because he was having problems with a motor he recently bought. It was shipped without an engine stand, laying in a box of newspaper on it’s side. The brand new engine was damaged, then didn’t run. We will bring you more on this effort in the near future. We’re not mentioning names until we find out how this company sorts out the problem. Make sure you buy valuable components from reputable companies. Most companies like S&S, Crazy Horse, Baker, Rev Tech and Accurate Engineering bench run engines before they are shipped. The are shipped completely secure in special crates and boxes, so they can’t be damaged.

Wheelsthroughtime contest
Don’t forget to enter the Wheels Through Time Knucklehead Raffle.

Make sure you investigate before you step up with your hard earned cash. That’s all you’re gonna get outta me. Next week we’ll deliver another Mexico Run saga, another sharp bike feature and the simple Rev Tech Clutch Install, after I install the Spyke stator plug. We’ll check the book Hot, Flat and Crowded about the big three auto manufacturers. We came up with a solution. How about this? Instead of bailing out the companies give taxpayers a $6000-8000 annual tax credit, if they buy an American car. This way the companies receive funds from customers. Whatta ya tink?
