NEW YEARS EVE SUNDAY POST

Hey,

Damn, the New Year is flying at us, and I’m trying to make a plan for Bikernet and my sanity. We are excited about this coming year. The potential is amazing for this small group of old bikers. Bikernet has expanded, and although there is some tweaking to be implemented, all systems are a go.

Ray made major strides with his new Twin-Cam-Busa, 5-Ball Raycer for Bonneville this year, while we push forward with the first trike streamliner for 2014. Just about the time I think I have a concrete platform dialed in, the notion changes. You will witness every iteration as we move forward.

We are tinkering with a lot of bikes this year, while trying not to start any new custom builds. The plan is to fix anything in the shop in need of fixing or tuning. We are currently working on the 1928 Shovelhead with a new River-Primo belt system, a new spin-on oil filter mount, new oil line running system, new clutch, new jockey shift system, and Kyle, the new shop intern will road test that puppy.

Let’s hit the news. It’s cold in the shop and I need to bundle then tell you about our travel and book plans for 2013:

TWIN POWER CAST REPLACEMENT PISTONS from BIKER’S CHOICE– O.E.M. quality aluminum alloy. Twin Cam and Evolution pistons have MoS2 coating that extends piston life, reduces friction and allows for cooler running engines.

Economical with great performance, all in one package. Kit includes 2 pistons, wrist pins and clips. Hastings rings are to be sold separately.

CLUBS CUT-OFF IN AUSTRALIA–80 barring orders issued to Finks and Hells Angels South Australian club members

It’s being reported that up to 80 members and associates linked to the the Hells Angels and Finks motorcycle clubs have been recently barred from every licensed venue in South Australia.
The police issued barring orders, preventing the people served with the orders from entering any pub, bar, club, licensed restaurant or entertainment venue.

Police say the move is aimed aimed at keeping what the claim is a simmering ‘bikie war’ off the streets of Adelaide during festive celebrations, the state’s 900 licensed venues received many of the barring notices on Friday and more on Christmas Eve.

On average, the barring orders are in force for between three and six months. Those caught breaching the orders can be arrested and face a fine of up to $1250.

Detective Superintendent John De Candia from SA Police said the orders, which have been issued since late November, would serve to protect families from club members and associates who did not care where their rivalry might turn violent.
“These motorcycle gangs have no regards or concern for where they engage in their violent conduct,” Supt De Candia said.

Australian Hotels Association South Australian president Ian Horne said the sheer weight of the barring orders had placed a heavy responsibility on licensees.

“Generally speaking, these sorts of barring orders are welcomed in terms of ensuring the safety of staff and customers in licensed venues,” Mr Horne said.

“However, there are serious and severe obligations on licensees to comply with such orders, and the unprecedented number of orders mean staff have to familiarize themselves with a great number of barred people.

“It is easy enough to bar someone but it is the managing of that process that requires a lot of work to enforce that order.”

Police Minister Jennifer Rankine said the Government “makes no apologies for our tough stance on bikies”.

“On top of these barring orders we have introduced public safety orders and firearm prohibition orders,” she said.

“South Australians deserve and expect the right to enjoy licensed premises without the fear of bikie related violence. Police can’t be everywhere but barring orders can.”

In August, police said there were about 200 motorcycle club members in South Australia, down from about 270 in 2007.

It’s believed the barring orders advise that the bikers and associates are linked to the November 21 shooting murder of Jason De Ieso in his Pooraka custom paint and panel workshop.
The barred bikers are understood to be predominantly from the Finks and Hells Angels motorcycle clubs.

Hotels were provided with photographs of all the bikers with the barring orders, delivered in large mailed packages of material, so they can be recognised by hotel staff.

Supt De Candia said the barring orders were one strategy used by Taskforce Alpha since November.

He said about 80 orders had so far been issued “to protect the law-abiding community” and police were also issuing public safety orders for music events such as Stereosonic and the upcoming Summadayze festival.

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER CHILD DIVISION– My wife was in labor with our first child. She was shouting, “Get this out of me! Give me the drugs!” She looked at me and yelled, “You did this to me, you bastard!”

I casually replied, “If you remember, I wanted to stick it up your ass but you said, ‘That would hurt too much’.”

I went to an extremely attractive female doctor today for my annual checkup. She told me that I had to quit masturbating. I asked why and she said, “Because I’m trying to examine you.”

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMET WORD YOU WILL NEVER USE–antepenultimate an-tee-pi-NUHL-tuh-mit, adjective:
1. Third from the end.?2. Of or pertaining to an antepenult.
noun: 1. An antepenult.

The vengeful eagles of the open sequence [and] the birds of augury watched outside the library and the emblematic kinsmen who shake ‘the wings of their exultant and terrible youth’ in the antepenultimate entry in Stephen’s diary.

— James Joyce, introduction by Hugh Kenner, Ulysses

But all day that is how it is, from the first tick to the last tack, or rather from the third to the antepenultimate, allowing for the time it needs, the tamtam within, to drum you back into the dream and drum you back out again.

— Samuel Beckett, Mercier and Camier

This adjective is the product of three Latin roots: ante meaning “before,” paen meaning “almost” and ultima meaning “last.”

BIKERNET HIRES NEW MEDICAL CONSULTANT, DR. HAMSTER—His first report: have you ever wondered why New Year Resolutions don’t work?

We all have made these resolutions and it goes well for about 2 weeks.
Then the resolve to pull it through fades and the whole experience ultimately leaves us
empty and even a bit upset.

Research has now shown that our brain is not wired to fulfill on resolutions and here is why:
-We often determine these resolutions without having tangible parameters that we can measure to experience results on an ongoing daily basis!
-Most minds cannot “wrap” themselves around the daily actions that need to be done to accomplish a task which is this “grey and fuzzy”

The best way to fulfill on resolutions is to have a clear starting point as well as daily and weekly “Actions” that will lead you to your success, then measure your progress.

When it comes to making a difference in your Health and Wellness, the process is no different:
measure your Vital Signs such as Blood Pressure, Heart Rate, Blood Oxygen levels, Stress Levels, Toxicity, etc to determine your current level, then establish daily and weekly targets
that will bring the necessary improvement.

I am committed to help as many people as possible.

For the month of January I am offering to all my patients, their family and friends a complimentary Health and Wellness screening so we can determine which steps are necessary to help you fulfill your Health and Wellness Resolutions and support you in your endeavor.

I have also extended my hours on Mondays and Thursdays to be able to serve you better.

I am wishing you all the best for the coming year!

In Health,
Dr. Christian Reichardt

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER OPERATING ROOM DISCUSSION–
Sex After Surgery
A surgeon went to check on his patient after an operation.

“You’ll be fine,” he said.

She asked …
“How long will it be before I am able to have a normal sex life again doctor?”

The surgeon seemed to pause, and a small tear ran down his cheek from the corner of his eye, which alarmed the girl.

“What’s the matter Doctor? I will be all right, won’t I?”

He replied …
“Yes, you’ll be fine. It’s just that no one has ever asked me that after having their tonsils out.”

HARLEY-DAVIDSON DEALER FRANCHISE MEMO– Another US Harley Dealer Avoids Harley-Davidson Termination Notice For Allegedly Violating Non-Retail Sales Policy.

Harley-Davidson conducts frequent audits of its dealers network to see if they don’t violate the company Non-Retail Sales Policy (NSRP). On June 23, 2011 Harley-Davidson notified Riverside Harley-Davidson (dab Skip Fordyce Harley-Davidson) of its intent to terminate the dealer agreement within 30 days.

The company justified this corporate decision by contending that the dealer sold 25 motorcycles over a period of 13 months to non-retail clients. Skip Harley-Davidson protested this decision to the California New Motor Vehicle Board arguing that these sales were made by a former General Manager who concealed from the Dealer principal how the sales were made.

At the same time the dealer received its termination notice, the dealer took action to fix the problem and volunteered to pay back Harley-Davidson for incentives it received for selling these 25 motorcycles. Administrative law Judge Victor D. Ryerson used the remedy proposed by the dealer as a reason to deny the termination request, asking Harley-Davidson to apply against Skip Fordyce Harley-Davidson less draconian sanctions as laid out in the Harley NRSP.

It’s the second dealer case in 2012 where a Harley-Davidson termination notice was challenged and denied. For now, the 65 employees of Skip Fordyce are keeping their jobs. Harley-Davidson lawyers may appeal the judge decision.

Dear supporters:
Please accept my thanks and that of the Board of Directors of Storehouse West for that fantastic donation of 1204 pounds of non-perishable food you collected during your food drive.

This has been a very busy and demanding holiday season, beginning early in November and continuing throughout December. The numbers of persons coming for food have increased. We have been feeding and clothing more and more families. With your donation we will continue to do so.

We appreciate your support and wish you a peaceful and happy New Year.

STURGIS MOTORCYCLE RALLY INC. DONATES $50,000 TO STURGIS RALLY CHARITIES– Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Inc. (SMRi), official stewards of the Sturgis brand, donated $50,000 to Sturgis Rally Charities Foundation who will in turn distribute that as well as another $21,850 to 45 local charities in and around the Sturgis community.

SMRi’s contribution was made possible by licensing agreements the organization manages for the Sturgis brand. “We worked hard to make sure we were able to make these funds available in time for the holiday season,” said Kathy Hersrud, president of Sturgis Rally Charities Foundation. “The beneficiary organizations and the clientele they serve are then able to use this funding to support programs they oversee as the year ends, or to devote them to 2013 programs.”

Sturgis Rally Charities distributed $71,850 in funds generated by Rally-related trademarks owned by the community non-profit SMRi as well as another $21,850 donated to Sturgis Rally Charities from a variety of local sources.

Friday afternoon the Bandit and I loaded the shops Kendon trailer with a Bandit hand-built, stretched FXR. Destination Bennett’s Performance in Signal Hill, Ca. located about 30 minutes from Bikernet headquarters. The sun was shining as we delivered Bandit’s son’s Mudflap girl bike to Eric Bennett for a Crane cam tech install. Our mission included picking up the 5-Ball Raycer, which is now running and hauling it back to the Bikernet headquarters for more work and future tuning. Both bikes we’re easy to secure and towed without a hitch, figure that one out.

Thanks to Eric Bennett, his father Bob and the men at Branch O’Keefe, we returned with a running, 124-inch twin cam, turbo charged, street legal rocket in the making. On initial start up we encountered a super-rich fuel situation, which is easily corrected with a lap top and a dyno session in the right hands.

The lap top and the dyno sessions are scheduled for the first part of the year.

Life Long Addictions

Be careful what you wish for, ever heard that one? Seems one of my biggest wishes other than finding the exit out of Kansas at an early age, might have been around my 14th birthday. Time for a driving permit and driving lessons, leading to numerous life long, unshakeable addictions. A few of my addictions since the mid 1950 are in random order, gasoline, hot rods, drag strips, rock n roll, milkshakes, cheeseburgers, freeways, sweethearts, family, Sturgis, sky diving, fast motorcycles, and Bonneville Salt Flats. Some 55 years later and another year locked in turbo charged overdrive has blasted out of town in the blink of an eye.

Come on 2013!

In 2013 another green flag waves with a starting line in sight, starting with the Mojave Mile. The Mile is on top of the 5-Ball Racing Teams list for our initial race track shake down passes. As soon as the date is announced we’ll let ya know.

2013 New Years Revolutions

At this point in life might has well kick it up a notch with morning work outs at the local YMCA, swim a few laps, smell the roses, then hop on the 5-Ball Racing Team’s Raycer for a little road therapy. With a new Grand child in June, followed by the Bonneville Salt Flats in August.

Smellin’ the roses reminds me of a long time ago sweetheart named Geraldine, Lil’ Annie Fannie the dancer? Might have been Rose?

Hang on to your ass! In 2013 we’ll hit the ground running on both cylinders.

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER ALERT–Supplements for Stress Relief. The holidays can bring joy, comfort and peace – but for some, it can also bring unhealthy stress. Use the Sunday Weekend Tips throughout this month for simple ways to de-stress that everyone can use, courtesy of Dr. Weil’s website SpontaneousHappiness.com.

If you want to reduce unhealthy stress, start by identifying the problems and situations that create stress – then learn to manage them by practicing general techniques of stress protection, such as breathing exercises. As for supplements, consider the following:

1. B-complex. B vitamins can help balance mood, calm the nervous system, and increase the efficacy of some prescription anti-depressants.
2. Omega-3 (fish oil) supplement from molecularly distilled fish oil. A deficiency in omega-3 fatty acids has been associated with increased anxiety and depression.
3. Valerian (Valeriana officinalis). An extract from the root of this flowering perennial contains essential oils that have been shown to help some people more effectively deal with stress.
4. Calcium and magnesium. Both are involved in many key physiologic processes and may help support healthy sleep, as well as muscle relaxation.
5. St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum). Extracts of this flowering herb, indigenous to Europe, may help boost mood and maintain a healthy emotional outlook.

FLORIDA MAN’S HANDGUN LAWSUIT DISMISSED IN WYOMING–
By Ben Neary  Associated Press

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A federal judge is dismissing a lawsuit in which a Florida man claimed Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies violated his Second Amendment rights by arresting him for carrying a handgun. Judge Scott Skavdahl of Casper announced Dec. 19 that he will grant a request from Lincoln County and the state of Wyoming to dismiss the lawsuit filed by Robert Pierson, of Pensacola, Fla.

Pierson had been riding his Harley-Davidson through Lincoln County with a pistol on his belt in August 2011. A U.S. Marine Corps helicopter pilot who has served two combat tours in Afghanistan, he has said he was taking a cross-country trip that brought him through Wyoming.

Deputies stopped Pierson near Alpine after another motorist complained that a motorcyclist matching his description had been driving recklessly. Pierson claims in the lawsuit filed this year that Deputies Corry Bassett and Rob Andazola handcuffed him for 45 minutes while questioning him about his gun. Although Pierson was handcuffed, the deputies didn’t disarm him and he wasn’t cited.

In a sworn statement filed in court this fall, Bassett told Pierson’s attorney, Gary Ferguson, that he detained Pierson because Pierson wouldn’t tell him initially whether he had a gun. Pierson, who recorded much of his interaction with Bassett and Andazola, told Bassett only that he didn’t consent to any searches. Pierson stated that the lawmen’s safety wasn’t his concern, and that their safety didn’t trump his constitutional rights. He later posted the recording of his encounter on YouTube, where it has been viewed more than 100,000 times.

Bassett gave a sworn statement to lawyers in the case this fall that he offered to release Pierson if he allowed Andazola to draw his weapon and cover Pierson, ready to shoot him if he made any sudden moves. Pierson declined the offer and was released after a supervisor from the Lincoln County sheriff’s office arrived. Ferguson said Friday he will review Skavdahl’s written dismissal order once it’s filed and intends to appeal.

Ferguson said earlier court cases have established that police may detain an armed man who hasn’t committed a crime only if he’s dangerous. “But he wasn’t dangerous,” Ferguson said of Pierson.  “And you can clearly show that from the recording that he made. You can see that he wasn’t dangerous. How do you let officers off when they’re illegally and unconstitutionally threatening lethal force?”

Sheriff Shane Johnson said Friday it’s been frustrating to have the lawsuit pending and to be under orders from his attorneys not to comment. He said he received emails from people around the country who had seen Pierson’s You-Tube posting that were critical of his department.

“This was never about a gun,” Johnson said. “There is no organization that’s more pro-Second Amendment than this organization. It was frustrating to have this turned into like this was anti-gun.” Johnson said Pierson didn’t stop immediately when the deputy turned on his emergency lights to pull him over. He said the deputy had a heightened state of awareness after finding that Pierson was armed and hearing him say that the deputy’s safety wasn’t his concern.

“We expect everybody in Wyoming to have a firearm, obviously. We’re aware of that,” Johnson said. “We don’t pull over people because we see firearms, which is what this was made out to be: we saw somebody carrying a firearm so we decided to stop him. That’s absolutely inaccurate.”

They said they did not pull him over for a firearm So could it be because they were profiling a motorcycle rider?

BIKERS RUIN CRUISE EXPERIENCE FOR WIMPS–How 2,500 hairy (and lairy) bikers ruined family’s £4,000 Caribbean cruise by staging belly-flopping contests and having sex in hot tubs

By Chris Brooke

A cruise around the Caribbean aboard one of the world’s largest passenger ships carries connotations of glamour, elegance and sophistication.

Unfortunately for Gail Empson and her family, the 2,500-strong gang of raucous, heavy-drinking, leather-clad bikers and their partners who were sharing their voyage had rather different ideas.
From the moment the bikers stepped on board the Freedom of the Seas ship, which carries 3,600 passengers, the trip to celebrate Mrs Empson’s 50th birthday was a disaster.

The gang, who were on their annual ‘High Seas Rally’, could not have been much further removed from the usual cruise’s sedate complement of families and retired couples.

They monopolised the swimming pool areas on board, holding rowdy competitions such as ‘belly smacker’ diving and a contest in which women judged topless men’s bodies by rubbing baby oil on them while blindfolded.

One passenger complained of bikers wearing sexually explicit T-shirts, fighting, and even having sex in hot tubs, despite there being youngsters on board.

JUSTICE WAS SERVED in NEW MEXICO–The NNMMRO, Deb Hill, family and friends would like to thank the motorcycle community, family and friends for your support on the Juan Cordova/Mark Wolfe trial and saga that begin in May of 2011 on Memorial Day Weekend. Mark was killed in the crash and his wife Deb and other motorcyclist riding with them were injured.

Drunk Cordova crossed the yellow line and crashed in to the motorcyclist then fled the scene of the crash to be arrested one hour later. One and half year later justice is finally served. Many of us spent countless hours in court and waiting with Deb during the aftermath of this tragedy. Today we rejoice our victory and mourn our loss for Mark. God Bless you all for your support.

Cordova guilty in fatal DWI crash

Juan de Dios Cordova was found guilty on all six charges. Those charges include vehicular homicide and DWI.

Cordova killed motorcyclist Mark Wolfe in 2011. Debbie Hill is Wolfe’s widow. She was also hit by a drunk Cordova after he’d already struck her husband and two others in their biker group.

“It’s been horrible. I wish it on no one,” Hill said.

The jury came to that conclusion despite all kinds of issues that came to light during the trial, including the fact that Cordova’s truck, a key piece of evidence, was destroyed at an impound yard.
Stephen Manzer was also injured in the accident, and said justice has been served for his friend, whom he misses daily.

“We rode thousands of miles and never had any incidents, never drank and drive, and to lose his life to someone that was obviously drunk and stoned, it was tough,” Manzer said.

Rio Arriba County Sheriff Tommy Rodella released a statement Thursday night, saying his deputies did excellent work on the case and he is thankful for the verdict.

It took the jury less than three hours to convict Cordova.

A sentencing date for Cordova has not been set. He will remain in the Rio Arriba County jail until then.

Happy New Year and thanks for another great year of entertainment, news, adventure, great bikes and broads, even some sound advice. I am fast approaching leaving full-time employment(retirement) and will be able to do so because I have been a well paid(not high paid) Union worker.

A proud 30+ year member of the Teamsters Union who will be able to enjoy a stable retirement with a Union negotiated pension earned by my hard work. I was a 20 something selling goods when I saw the opportunity to better myself, joined the Union, and paid attention to the world around me…not just the barmaid’s ta-ta’s.

I hung in there through hard times just like the people you mentioned in the news. We are supposed to do that…being a member of a union does not absolve us from personal responsibility. None of us thought we would live this long. We went out every night and spent good money to try and not wake up the next morning and then laughed when we did. We got to our fifties and realized the sixties were coming…not the ones that made us what we are today.

Keep up the good work you and the Bikernet staff do…more broads and more bikes through the new year!

Thanks.

SUNDAY GUN NUT REVIEW–I have friends on both sides of the handgun issue,
those who believe easy access to hand guns is not good for this country and those who believe government has no business dictating ownership one way or the other.

I have gained valuable understanding from both arguments. I have made my final decision. Certain Americans, especially those who are more likely to become victims of crime, need to own and become proficient with handguns!

I can’t discuss this any further right now, it’s my turn to pick up the shells.

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER REPORT–A Muslim immigrant goes to the doctor and says “I feel terrible.

The doctor examines him and then says, “You need to pee and crap in a bucket for a week, throw in a dead fish and a rotting cabbage. Put a towel over your head and inhale the vapors for three days.

“The Muslim does this and goes back to the doctor and says “I feel wonderful!”.

“What was wrong with me?”

“You were just homesick.”

HAPPY NEW YEAR, GODDAMMIT—Okay back at the list. I’m about to wrap up the next Chance Hogan book, World Run, then I will dive into another Chance book, The Search for Freedom. This will perhaps be the most important book I’ve ever written. I’ve been encouraged to complete this task by a major Hollywood producer, who wants to make a movie about Chance’s efforts to find freedom and peace in America. Chance will face tough obstacles.

I’m also working with Michael Lichter on a book about a Motorcycle Museum here in the states. We are currently working on the proposal right now.

Initially, I was going to hang close to the headquarters this year. I’m turning 65. We are in the process of refurbishing the front of the building and trying to find a company that wants to work with us on a mural that will reside on the street facing the largest, busiest port in the nation. Chris Richardson is going to introduce me to the boss of Sailor Jerry Rum. Would that be an appropriate match or what. And we have one more building project, which you will see come together on Bikernet.

Ah, but how can I ignore the road or adventures. Sailing in Greece is calling with the help of Woody and Bob Bitchin’ from Cruising Outpost Magazine (this trip is open to anyone who wants to step up). Then the Triking Viking mentioned Nepal and riding Royal Enfields to the Mt. Everest base camp. I trained for the hike almost 20 years ago, but Joe Teresi was trying to sell Easyriders and didn’t want me to take the time out. But to ride an Enfield to the base camp would be an amazing opportunity. Plus Michael Lichter wants to handle the photography. How could I turn it down. And the Smoke Out, or the Iron Works Rally in New Mexico, Sturgis, and who the hell knows.

There you have it. Biker nirvana for 2013, right here at the Bikernet Interplanetary Headquarters on the edge of the Port of Los Angeles. A place where the motorcycle creed is practiced 24 hours a day, or we die trying.

Ride Forever,

–Bandit
