BIKERNET CULTURAL RESEARCH FINDINGS– Don’t ride so late into the night that you sleep through the sunrise.

Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight.

Riding faster than everyone else only guarantees you’ll ride alone.

Never hesitate to ride past the last streetlight at the edge of town.

SALES OF DUAL PURPOSE MOTORCYCLES AND SCOOTERS OUTPACED CRUISERS AND SPORTBIKES– While cruisers and sportbikes were wondering the consumer love went, dual-purpose motorcycles were riding off the showroom floors in 2008 according to tentative numbers from the Motorcycle Industry Council. Dual-purpose bikes as well as scooters were the brightest spots in last year’s MIC Retail Sales Report, which reveals percentage growth or decreases among all categories of bikes last year.

Scooter sales through December were up 41.5 percent compared to all of 2007. Dual-purpose bike sales jumped 22.8 percent last year for the major brands tracked. No other categories in the report showed an increase.

“Overall, motorcycle sales were down 7.2 percent, not nearly as sharp a decline as many other consumer products in today’s economy,” said MIC President Tim Buche. “We’ll look at 2008 as a big year for scooters, dual-purpose bikes and small-displacement motorcycles. If it was smart-sized, offered great value and high fuel mileage, then chances are it was a sales success.?

As it seemed to several times in the past, a rise in gas prices may have pumped up sales of smaller, more economical motorcycles. Preliminary findings from the 2008 MIC Owner Survey suggest that Americans are looking at motorcycles more for transportation, not only recreation.

BIKERLOWDOWN.COM: 15 GRAND AND 15 MILES DOES NOT MAKE YOU A BIKER– Some Motorcycles these days Cost Thousands to Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars. After the Craze of the past Ten years of hit shows like American Choppers, It seems every American has fallen in love with these works of art! WELDING LESSON FROM HONDA– This is an excerpt from a recent Cycle News test of the new Honda Fury chopper?

?One area of the bike you can’t help but notice is the welds on the frame. While the frames on the rest of the Honda lineup gets the precision welding of a machine, the Fury is hand welded in an effort to give it that custom look. Trouble is, there are good welders and bad welders, and there must be one tired lad at the Honda factory doing all the welds. After all, there’s no way you could possibly find two people in that factory capable of welding this bad. Not to beat a dead horse, but the stoned kid you were scared to go near in ninth-grade metal shop didn’t weld this poorly.?

BIKERNET GUN LAW DEPARTMENT UPDATE– The day many of you thought would come finally has. Eric Holder (Attorney General), on February 25th, stated that the Obama administration would be pushing for a new and permanent assault weapons ban. I’ll let the liars/politicians state it in their own words.

“I think closing the gun show loophole, the banning of cop-killer bullets and I also think that making the assault weapons ban permanent, would be something that would be permitted under Heller,” Holder said.

“I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum,” Holder said. Personal comment: WTF!? Banning guns in America to stem the flow of illegal arms to Mexico? WTF???

“As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons,” Holder told reporters.

OK…so now what? Well now it is war. It is time to be vigilant. It is time to organize. It is time to keep up to date and remain informed of our new President’s policies. We’ll do our best to keep you up to date with a section on our sites that we’ll create soon. These people are not interested in facts. They are only interested in their agenda.

Keep in mind that over the last several months, many people have been buying these type of weapons in preparation for just this day. Many of the manufacturers are WAY behind so your selection may not be the best right now, but we update the page below as often as we get new products in.

Thanks and remember that it is never too late to contact your congressional representative and voice your opinion. https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml

AIR FORCE SERGEANT DISCHARGED FROM SERVICE FOR PLAYBOY CONNECTION– Remember that Air Force Sergeant a couple of months ago who got a dishonorable discharge because she posed for Playboy???????

Airforce2

Well….. here she is!

Michelle Manhart defended her decision to pose. US Air Force Sergeant Michelle Manhart who posed nude for Playboy magazine has been removed from active duty and demoted.

The move reverts her to air national guard status, a move which has prompted her resignation, she says. “I’m disappointed in our system. They went too far with it,” she told the Associated Press news agency.

Ms Manhart appeared in the Playboy’s February edition in a range of poses, some in uniform and striking a military pose, others while naked.

Ms Manhart had been a member of the Iowa air national guard before going on extended active duty with the air force…

In January, Ms Manhart was suspended! from duties while an investigation into the incident was carried out.

At the time the air force released a statement saying that her actions did not “meet the high standards we expect of our airmen”.

However, Ms Manhart defended her decision to pose for the magazine, pointing out that she had served her country since 1994.

PS: The Navy would not have let her go.

CHRIS KALLAS BLOG BANNER

BIKERNET’S RENEGADE HIKES TO THE MOUNTAIN TO SPEAK TO THE UNCLE MONKEY. HE RETURNS WITH THE AGE OLD TABLETS– Riding is a way of life for many of us. Cutting the teeth of our youth on primitive scooters and mini bikes to eventually move up to the street machines we ride today. Though only the bravest of us in Canada can stretch the riding season beyond eight months we always have riding in our hearts and minds relying on such things as the Bikernet to get us through the cold months until we can ride again.

But time marches on leaving most of us saying, ?if I?d known I?d live this long I would have taken better care of myself.? Unfortunately we all face the harsh reality that one-day we will not be able to ride again. Often our health is the biggest limiting factor.

Riding is physically demanding and eventually the flesh will longer be able though the spirit is. It starts by trailering our bikes to those far away runs. Eventually we try to prolong the inevitable by switching to a trike. We all see the old riders every year at the swap meets and shows struggling to just walk by, but always with a smile. They are a wealth of knowledge. They have ridden the hard miles. Riding when it wasn?t considered fashionable. They rode in the days when all bikers were considered outlaws.

They kept the dealerships open when the bikes were less than ideal. They were the ones huddled on the side of the road trying to breath life back into an unforgiving motorcycle. They built and repaired their bikes when there weren?t the thousand page catalogs we have today. What they couldn?t buy, they made themselves. They started the runs and rallies we now go to. So next time you see one of them, take the time to sit with them and learn about our past. You?ll be surprised as to what you might learn.
