Hey,
I’m glad last week is creeping behind us. Remember the movie Kelly’s Heroes, with Clint Eastwood. Donald Southerland played a hippy tank driver, and his code was, “No negative waves.”
I use that term often. Fuck a bunch of negativity. Let’s grab the reins and move forward. It’s all about the fun we have, building bikes, chasing women and finding beautiful winding roads and a new adventure.
Let’s hit the news, then I’ll tell you about all the awesome content headed into Bikernet, or maybe we’ll just kick around the parties planned for the 4th:

THE DYNAMIC SHOP CODE OF THE WEST– & Murphy’s Law of Lockers– If there are only two people in a locker room, they will have adjacent lockers.
& Law of Physical Surfaces– The chances of an open-faced jelly sandwich landing face down on a floor covering are directly correlated to the newness and cost of the carpet/rug.
& Law of Logical Argument — Anything is possible if you don’t know what you are talking about.
& Brown’s Law of Physical Appearance– If the shoe fits, it’s ugly.
& Oliver’s Law of Public Speaking– A closed mouth gathers no feet.

FROM THE BIKERNET BLONDE ARCHIVES–Subject: FW: Blonde & Crabs– A man boarded an airplane in Baltimore with a box of frozen crabs and asked a blonde, female crew member to take care of the box for him. She took the box and promised to put it in the crew’s refrigerator. He pointedly advised her that he was holding her personally responsible for these expensive crabs staying frozen, mentioned that he was a lawyer, and proceeded to rant at her about what would happen if she let them thaw out.
Needless to say, she was annoyed by his behavior. Shortly before landing in Chicago, she used the intercom to announce to the entire cabin, “Would the gentleman who gave me the crabs in Baltimore please raise your hand?”
Not one hand went up ….. So she took them home and ate them.
Two lessons here:
1. Lawyers never learn.
2. Blondes aren’t as dumb as some men think.

BIKERNET UNCOVERS THE TRUTH– The Volkswagen (VW) L1 is a real car, seats 2 and if released would have a price tag $25,900.
Volkswagen has designed and built the L-1 with an eye toward better gas mileage and lower carbon emissions. It has not yet resulted in a production model to be released to the public, but Former VW chairman Dr Ferdinand Pi?ch actually drove the L1 to the VW shareholders’ meeting in Hamburg from his office in Wolfsburg which lies about 84 miles South of the German port. Pi?ch recorded 317.4mpg with an average speed of 43.5mph.
The two passenger car is equipped with a carbon fiber body, 299cc single-cylinder diesel engine, anti lock brakes, driver’s airbag and an electronic stability program. The L1’s price tag of $25,900 was much higher than what the German automotive company targeted for consumers.
The UK Telegraph followed the progress of the L1 over the years reported that the project had been scrapped and later restarted. The L1 has design challenges such as the passenger having to sit bobsled style with their legs around the drivers seat as well as excessive noise and vibration adding to passenger discomfort.
Pi?ch now heads VW’s supervisory board and is still working on fuel efficient vehicles for the German automaker. The L1 appeared to be a stepping stone and a learning tool to design more efficient vehicles. Pi?ch said, “We will never build a one-litre car, but it could give us the knowledge to build a two-litre car.”
The VW company also introduced a 3 liter vehicle, the Lupo, which seats four and goes about 78 miles to a gallon of fuel.

SMOG TESTING CALIFORNIA MOTORCYCLES, STILL AN ISSUE– I’m opposed to Smog testing motorcycles. Unfortunately, it’s not a cost-effective measure to deal with less than 1 percent of emissions.
I believe so much more could be accomplished with education over legislation. In Los Angeles the second largest emissions problem is home barbecues and fast food joints. Actually the real problem is population.
We need to approach regulatory issues from three standpoints: Freedom and how not to mess with it; Regulations, only what is absolutely necessary, and education to insure the public can make healthy decisions.
We are facing way too much control in this country, and like the failed War on Drugs, we need to find success by working with the people not fighting and regulating them at every turn.

Design study – Ural Wolf with sidecar– We, from the European Ural distributor in Austria, may be a little bit proud about some of our developments of Ural models in the past.
Our study Ural GS was not realized by the factory in serial, unfortunately.
Ural Vorona became to our first limited edition and was sold out immediately.
Ural Pustinja was the next limited edition and the 35 owners of this model appreciate, that their version of an Ural already became to a collector bike.
Here is our next design study:
During winter we reorganized our spares stock and we removed some shelf warmers, mixed these parts with some brand new Ural components and some common accessories and the result is this beautiful combination.
Should this Ural with sidecar become to serial?
Your opinion to the bike is very welcome.
