FINALLY AFTER A DECADE OF TRIALS AND RESEARCH AT BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER, 5 Ways to Prevent a Hangover– If you are planning on attending any celebration, you may want to take a few precautions to lessen your chances of starting the next day with an alcohol-related hangover. The surefire way to keep a clear head is not to drink at all, and to be the designated driver for your friends who do. Alcohol is a strong toxin to both the liver and the nervous system, and it irritates the upper digestive tract and urinary system as well. If you do drink, remember:

1. Moderation is the best way to avoid hangovers – make sure to pace yourself.
2. Eat food if you have more than a drink or two.
3. Avoid dehydration (and cut down on alcohol intake) by drinking as much water as possible while you’re drinking alcohol.
4. Take a B-complex vitamin supplement plus extra thiamine (100 mg) to counter the B-vitamin depletion caused by alcohol.
5. Choose beverages that are “cleaner.” Some distilled beverages are rich in types of alcohol called congeners – toxic impurities that can greatly add to your woes. Bourbon, rum, and cognac are particularly dirty, while vodka, which is just pure alcohol and water, is cool.

NRA-ILA GRASSROOTS ALERT– Sleep Easy, America — Feds’ Terrorist Watchlist Nabs Cub Scout.

As we’ve reported before, Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), encouraged by New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, wants to prohibit anyone on the FBI’s terrorist watchlist from possessing a firearm. Yet, the list and its criteria are secret, and Lautenberg’s bill would criminalize the exercise of a constitutionally protected right while denying a person the opportunity to clear himself of accusations in a fair and open hearing before a court of law. Even today, thousands of people who aren’t terrorists cannot prevent the list from misidentifying them, causing them delays and embarrassment when trying to board commercial aircraft.

It’s one thing when an adult gets the run-around at an airport, because he or she has a name identical or similar to someone the FBI is watching. As the American Civil Liberties Union has pointed out, the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) “automatic selectee” list — its list of people who are not permitted to board an aircraft without being given the once-over by the agency’s machines and uniformed, latex-gloved personnel — is based on people’s names, not on physical factors like age.

The 2010 legislative session has started, with Congress and most states currently in session. With the holidays now in our rearview mirrors, it is time to turn our energies toward our critically important legislative agenda and the 2010 elections. Much is on the line for our gun rights, our country, and our future. In recent election cycles, gun owners have enjoyed great successes. But none of our victories have happened by accident. It takes careful, long-term, advance planning to ensure victory for the Second Amendment on Election Day, as well as in the legislative arena. In order for us to meet the inevitable challenges and opportunities we will face this year, our preparation must begin now.

Arizona: NRA Wins Right To Defend Hunters Against Lawsuit Seeking To Ban Lead Ammunition

U.S. District Court Judge Paul G. Rosenblatt has ruled that NRA has a right under federal law to intervene in a lawsuit filed, in the plaintiff’s own words, as part of a campaign “to ban the use of lead bullets[.]” NRA will now be able to defend hunter’s rights against the claims of extremist environmental groups that filed the lawsuit.

INTERPOL: Over the past year, we have reported several times on the abundance of rumors being circulated regarding firearm issues. Among other things, we’ve heard phony tales circulating about such things as guns being banned for the elderly, ammunition with expiration dates, a requirement that guns be listed on tax returns, and a prohibition on gun and ammunition imports. The latest scuttlebutt has to do with a recent Executive Order by President Obama concerning the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL).

EXCLUSIVE FROM THE BIKERNET FAMILY COUNSELING DEPARTMENT– A man wanted to get married. He was having trouble choosing among three likely candidates. He gives each woman a present of $5,000 and watches to see what they do with the money.

The first does a total makeover. She goes to a fancy beauty salon, gets her hair done, new makeup; buys several new outfits and dresses up very nicely for the man. She tells him that she has done this to be more attractive for him because she loves him so much.

The man was impressed.

The second goes shopping to buy the man gifts. She gets him a new set of golf clubs, some new gizmos for his computer, and some expensive clothes. As she presents these gifts, she tells him that she has spent all the money on him because she loves him so much.

Again, the man is impressed.

The third invests the money in the stock market. She earns several times the $5,000… She gives him back his $5,000 and reinvests the remainder in a joint account. She tells him that she wants to save for their future because she loves him so much.

Obviously, the man was very impressed.

The man thought for a long time about what each woman had done with the money he’d given her. Then he married the one with the biggest boobs.

Men are like that, you know.

There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer’s research. This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.

If you don’t send this to five OLD friends right away there will be five fewer people laughing in the world

EPA TO CONTROL EVERYTHING– The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed a tougher standard for ground-level ozone, the main ingredient in smog. Ozone forms when nitrogen oxide and volatile organic compound emissions from smokestacks, tailpipes and other sources combine in sunlight. Smog is created when particulates are added to the mix.

Acceptable ozone levels would range between 0.060 parts per million and 0.070 ppm. The current level is 0.075 ppm. The EPA contends the new standards are necessary to address heart and respiratory illnesses associated with smog. The agency estimates costs to implement the new standard could range from $19 billion to $90 billion, with manufacturers, oil refiners and utilities likely bearing most of the costs.

A number of counties across the nation would be in non-compliance with the new standard and forced to implement new strategies for reducing ozone. Controls could include requirements for additional pollution controls at gas stations, factories and power plants beginning in 2014.

The new standards could also spur state and local efforts to implement vehicle scrappage programs. SEMA is reviewing the proposal which is expected to be finalized this summer.

RENOWNED ROLLS-ROYCE COLLECTION SET FOR RM?S INAUGURAL MONACO SALE– LONDON, England (15 January, 2010) − RM Auctions, the world?s largest collector car auction house, is thrilled to announce the consignment of an important series of 26 Rolls-Royce motor cars from the renowned private collection of German entrepreneur Hans-G?nther Zach to its Sporting Classics of Monaco sale, 1st May, 2010.

A passionate, lifelong motoring enthusiast, Zach?s ardor for the Rolls-Royce marque dates back to a childhood dream of one day owning a car by the famed English automobile manufacturer. A successful career as a machinery technician and in industrial real estate enabled him to realize his vision, and today, he is a well-known collector of vintage automobiles and furniture on display at his own museum in M?hlheim, Germany. Zach?s Rolls-Royce collection, the result of 16 years of judicious collecting, is widely considered as one of the world?s finest, featuring a number of truly historic examples.

?We are honoured to have been entrusted by Mr. Zach with the task of selling his renowned private collection at auction,? says Max Girardo, Managing Director of RM Europe. ?Magnificently maintained and regularly exercised, each example is presented in excellent condition and represents the epitome of motoring luxury and engineering for its time. The Zach Collection is certainly an exciting addition to our inaugural Monaco sale.?

Mr. Zach adds, ?RM was highly recommended to me as the specialists when it comes to selling private collections and achieving strong results at auction. I am delighted to partner with RM as they assist with the sale of my collection and look forward to sharing the joy my cars have brought me over the years with other enthusiasts.?

The centerpiece of the collection and a feature attraction for the forthcoming Monaco sale is a luxurious, one-off 1934 Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP Phantom II Continental Cabriolet, chassis number 188PY, referred to as the ?Star of India?. Regarded as one of the most striking and celebrated Rolls-Royce motor cars of all time, the eye-catching ?Star of India? was custom built and delivered to the Maharaja of Rajkot in 1934 for use in state ceremonies. Bodied by Thrupp and Maberley and finished in saffron ochre with polished aluminium wings, the car boasts a range of unique features including an extra set of headlights designed to follow the path of steering. The car was shipped to England in the late 1960s, eventually finding its way into the Zach collection in 2000. Over the years, it has been a welcome attraction at many events and shown on numerous occasions, including before Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as part of a great Rolls-Royce parade celebrating her Silver Jubilee in 1977, and later, her Golden Jubilee in 2002.

RM?s inaugural Sporting Classics of Monaco event will be held at the Grimaldi Forum, 1st May 2010, the same weekend as the 7th Grand Prix Historique de Monaco. The single-day event is set to present 80 of the world?s finest motor cars to an elite assemblage of automotive enthusiasts and collectors from around the world.

Sundayending

TRUE CONFESSIONS–Usually I’m under the gun with a list of content running out my ears. Johnny Humble helped out tremendously last week coding articles. Then Friday escaped me and I didn’t launch squat, and I planned to post the Departure Bike Works feature on Saturday, but the play-offs and a couple of Bikernet Headquarters projects ate me alive. I worked on the feature, but chicken enchiladas and whiskey prevented completion.

Departurpipe

Next week will kick off with the Travis (Departure Bike Works, Richmond) tribute bike feature from American Iron and Departure Bike works. We might bring you the Ray Wheeler performance tech, and a tech on mounting Avon bags. For sure the NCOM Coast to Coast Legislative News report will see the pages of Bikernet. We’re waiting on webmasters for our new blog, and I’m beginning to bite my nails. The girls around the shop are constantly on my case. If someone says they’re going to complete a task, I expect it to be so executed, or die trying. Goddamnit, no time to lose. Hang on for more reports next week.
