Happy Goddamn New Year,
I like this year already. We’re finding our Zen-like way here at Bikernet and it’s exciting. It’s our 10th Anniversary, and we’re developing a plan for it. I’m open to suggestions. The home page will change slightly. We’ll develop a new sticker and T-shirt. The Run to Bonneville will be devoted to the anniversary.
I’m turning 58 this year and I still love to have women around me, but we’ll get to that. Let’s hit the news:

HARRISBURG, PA, December 29, 2005 Hardbikes, Inc. announced the closing of a senior equity financing led by Penn Venture Partners, LP of Harrisburg, PA. The proceeds of the financing are being used for research and development and to rollout its model line in partnership with affiliated dealers. As a result of the financing, Gene Peck, Director of Penn Venture Partners, will join Hardbikes Board of Directors.
Hardbikes, a privately-held company, is a mass manufacturer of custom motorcycles. Hardbikes delivers truly custom motorcycles faster and for similar pricing to what the market currently pays for custom-like bikes and focuses on offering the customer a far more enjoyable and accommodating purchasing experience. Hardbikes will start taking orders for their new custom bikes, built to customer specifications, after the first of the year. The Company is looking to expand its dealers because of the new capacities in its Pennsylvania facility. The President and Chairman of Hardbikes, Gene Kirila, is a seasoned entrepreneur and a winner of Fortune magazine?s distinguished Heroes in Manufacturing award. Bob Kay, Vice President of Sales, is a 30-year veteran of the motorcycle manufacturing business.
As part of the overall financing package, Hardbikes announced plans to move into a 35,000 square foot, long-term facility in Hermitage, PA as of December 16, 2005. Hardbikes currently operates in Ohio, where prototypes and assembly procedures have been developed. The move to Pennsylvania keeps Hardbikes growing and provides a long-term home that can be expanded as needed. The Company’s seasoned management team and recent successful milestones were the icing that sold the state of Pennsylvania on Hardbikes.
“Hardbikes will transform the experience of buying a custom motorcycle,” noted Gene Peck, Penn Venture Partners, Director. “Through our investment in Hardbikes, we believe that Management will be able to better capitalize on their mass customization experience to build a business which can deliver a customized product in scale quantities, a major competitive advantage in their sector.

I went to your Biker Net Site Directory and was wondering if there is a need for a custom paint listing. I’m Doug Martini and John & I do custom and factory paint out of Salt Lake City, UT. We prefer to work through bike shops and as long as our paint customer uses their local bike shop to remove and re-assemble their sheet-metal we offer them a discount on paint. By doing this the bike shop doesn’t have to mark-up the paint to an outrageous price because we are encouraging the customer to utilize their services and they can make additional money that way as well as up-sales on stretch tanks, fenders etc.
As long as the bike is down how about an oil change, new tires when needed brake pads etc. We believe that it is a partnership between us and the shops and both sides can benefit from each-other as well as the chances for damage to the paint on re-assembly is a lot less when done by professionals. I also design and print high quality business cards and other promotional materials and offer a discount on these services as well to any shop that works with us.

Our website is being reconstructed and should be back in full soon. I hope this gives you an idea of who we are and our services call if you have questions or need samples and hope to hear back from you soon. Have a safe and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Rick Krost, of U.S. Choppers sent his letter to the EPA. I’m going to post it in Special Reports at the end of the Thursday News. We need to stop and get involved. Our industry depends on it.
“Check out OMB news releases on the right side of web page here…..
http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/
“This is big- if we appeal on this basis – we could win this fight as the EPA is spending more on this act than ever in the face of Bush’s plan – with total disregard to financial prudence and Bush’s new plan.”

Yeah, he’s a scurvy bastard but Johnny White just submitted an article about his custom pegs and we published an article concerning his head work talents in the Bikernet Tech Area. Don’t miss ’em.

I did a lot of research before composing my letter and feel the issues put forth are the most poignant if we are to turn around this new law and have Washington listen. The OMB (http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/contact.html) is the arm that governs the EPA for financial prudence, so we need to appeal to them. They have already recognized that this is the most expensive law (to implement) the EPA has handed down in history and the EPA has not proven that it will have ANY EFFECT at all in the quality of life or health to US citizens.
This is the most important fact that we can spread. This seems to be a simple excuse to provide more funding and appropriations to the EPA while providing no positive effects to the public.

I just read on the official website http://www.dakar.com the V-Rod has completed the first stage of the race in Portugal. There are only 3 sidecar outfits in the race, one of them is a (shock/horror) a Ural.
My old mate Simon Pavey and Charley Boorman are in the 180’s position section. Chris is in about 173 and another Aussie, Andy Caldercott is in 9th The two American KTM riders are in 23 and 32.
You can see I love my dakar Rally, it’s the only event I follow.

We’d like to wish you a wonderful 2006 and let you know that we have already signed up three world class dragstrips (and possibly more to come) for our first year of running AMDRAGS (American Motorcycle Drag Race All Gas Series) Harley drag racing.
They are in Rockingham, NC, Maple Grove, PA and MIR (Budds Creek) in MD.
In addition to the AMDRAGS races, we will be holding our Thunder Alley Race School, the AIMSA bike show and a motorcycle swap meet at each of the events.
For more info visit http://www.amdrags.com.
As always, we encourage your suggestions on how to make our efforts the most rewarding for all involved. And we still have room for more sponsors.
Happy New Year and hope to see you at the track.

I found a major link for the V-Rod sidecar guys at the link below. Hogwild is the guy who is doing the Dakar this year. Six pages of posting in the forum, I think many of your readers might be interested in this. And when you read the postings take note that the Rally Organizers seem to want some special American participation in the event in 2007. Something to keep an eye on.
This year the bikes have smaller tanks, less distance between fuel stops and top speed limited to 160kph. This is to try to keep more of them from accidents, injuries and death.
Hmm…Euro Compass Tour or Dakar Rally Bandit for 2007? Tough choice huh?
Check the video link of the V-Rod in the sand dunes. Also check the massive tire on the back of the bike!

(LOS ANGELES, California,December 31, 2005) – A new site on the World Wide Web enables motorcyclists to easily find bikenights, bike rallys and other gatherings using the Internet. California Bike Nights, found at http://www.CaliforniaBikeNights.com, provides dozens of bikenight listings and links to resources that can help motorcyclists find social events.
What makes < http://www.CaliforniaBikeNights.com?
The most powerful feature is that California Bike Nights uses Google Maps to mark all the locations and days of the events. Visitors can click on a marker on the map, find out details on the event, and get custom directions from anywhere to the event. That feature establishes California Bike Nights truly in a class by itself, delivering a unique and beneficial service that no other motorcycling website has to offer.
“It’s a very well done and comprehensive site,” said Eric Muss-Barnes, inventor, creator and programmer of California Bike Nights. The site is designed to offer greater breadth and scope than similar sites, Muss-Barnes said. “Unlike other motorcycling sites, the map feature allows visitors to see the physical address of events in relation to their own home. Instead of a website showing an ambiguous text-listing of addresses (which you have to look up separately on a map anyway), you get to instantly see the day any bikenight in California is scheduled and it’s relative distance from your location.”
Muss-Barnes explained that visitors can also sort the events, based upon categories. For example, if a user wishes to only see bikenights happening on Tuesday, they simply touch the “CLICK TO SORT” link for Tuesdays and all the markers on the map vanish except for Tuesdays.
Other features of the site include a listing of motorcycle-friendly bars and restaurants. There is also a “ADD/DELETE A BIKENIGHT” webform so users can submit changes. They can add a new bikenight; Delete an old one; Change some information on an existing night. Simply fill out the form and submit it with all the details. Finally, California Bike Nights also has a webforum and message board to give users a place to discuss bikenights and events.

Here is a pencil version of the 10th Anniversary logo and I just wanted to see what you think of it so far.
I am in the process of vectorizing the image, and then I will add the type and color. I also wanted to know if it would be okay if it is finished by Monday, or is that too late? If you want me to make any changes or modifications, just let me know.

We at the Troy Volunteer Fire Department will be having several fundraisers throughout the weekend of April 15 & 16, 2006. The fundraisers will consist of a silent auction, raffle, and door prizes. All of the proceeds will be used to purchase medical equipment that our fire department needs to provide better care for our friends, neighbors, and our community. Looks like you and the Chop and Grind Race teams will be looking for sponsors this year. How about using my Amsoil in your machines? After sponsoring the “Stinkin’ Lincoln” this year I’m game to do it again. Please forward this to Chop and Grind even if you aren’t interested.
My focus with Amsoil is motorcycles and these racers are exactly what I want to be involved in. Another plus is that I can easily ride out Bonneville and watch the races this fall.

That’s right, Kent Weeks of Lucky Devil Metal Works, of Houston, signed a deal with Victory and American Rider Magazine to build a concept Victory Custom. It will be covered in Buzz Buzzelli’s American Rider then on Bikernet. Watch for it in 2006.

THAT’S A NEW YEARS WRAP–What a year it’s going to be. I’m going to learn about restorations, sorta, Bonneville racing, flathead technology, Peashooters, Panheads from Accurate Engineering and women. It’s a constant challenge. Like Tom Kellerstrass said about women, “It’s an addiction I don’t want to find a cure for.”

Every element we learn, find, cover, fight for or touch, we’ll share with all the Bikernet readers. It’s going to be a damn exciting year and we hope that comes across in everything we do. Now relax for the rest of the day. It’s a fuckin’ holiday. Wait, just for the kicks and to commenorate Bikernet’s 10th, I’m extending the holiday through Monday.
Ride Forever,
–Bandit
