Grassroots Effort Builds Champions

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) is proud to highlight the powerful results of our grassroots advocacy efforts in developing strong allies in Congress who are committed to defending the rights and lifestyle of America’s motorcyclists.

A shining example of this ongoing work is the relationship between longtime MRF and ABATE of Wisconsin members Gary and Shawn Klinker and Congressman Derrick Van Orden (WI-03). Through years of direct engagement, education, and relationship building, these two have helped foster a mutual understanding between the Congressman and the motorcycling community. This is a great example of how a few individuals can help shape public policy from the ground up.

This connection helped lay the foundation for Congressman Van Orden to become a legislative ally in the fight to protect motorcyclists’ freedoms. The Congressman is the Co-Chair of the Congressional Motorcycle Caucus and the lead sponsor of H.R. 3385, which seeks to update the current definition of a motorcycle.

In recognition of his commitment, the MRF Political Action Committee (MRF PAC) proudly supported his campaign with a financial contribution as part of our continued investment in electing lawmakers who share our values and vision.

“The MRF PAC is strictly bipartisan,” said Kirk “Hardtail” Willard, MRF President. “We don’t base our support on party lines. We back candidates who stand with us, who understand the needs of the motorcycling community, and who are willing to defend our rights on Capitol Hill, regardless of whether they have a D or an R next to their name.”

The MRF PAC is fueled by contributions from motorcyclists across the country and aims to ensure that riders have a voice where it matters most, in Washington, D.C. Our focus is simple: support candidates who support us. Congressman Van Orden’s record and willingness to engage with riders make him a true champion for our community.

Grassroots efforts like this from Gary and Shawn are the lifeblood of the MRF’s success. When riders take the time to educate and connect with their elected officials, it strengthens our position as a respected, nonpartisan advocate for the motorcycling lifestyle.

The MRF will continue to build relationships and support elected officials who recognize the cultural, economic, and personal significance of motorcycling in America.

Thank you to all who support the MRF PAC and those who seek to build similar relationships with lawmakers.
