RESPONSE TO RIVERA STARTER DRIVE TECH– I read your article about electric start conversion on a Pan…I have a ’54 that I converted over 6 yrs ago, the best part was I didn’t loose my kick start. Additionally it looks like it was meant to be there. I’m enclosing a couple of pix of the install.

Very Important for you to be aware of a new bill HR 45 introduced into the House. This is the Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sale Act of 2009– We just learned yesterday about this on the Peter Boyles radio program. Even gun shop owners didn’t know about this because it is flying under the radar.

To find out about this – go to any government website and type in HR 45 or Google HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act of 2009. You will get all the information.

Basically this would make it illegal to own a firearm – any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:

?It is registered
?You are fingerprinted
?You supply a current Driver’s License
?You supply your Social Security #
?You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing
?Each update – change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25 – Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.
?There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. Gun must be locked and inaccessible to any child under 18.

They would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 yrs. in prison.

If you think this is a joke – go to the website and take your pick of many options to read this. It is long and lengthy. But, more and more people are becoming aware of this. Pass the word along. Any hunters in your family – pass this along.

Peter Boyles is on this and having guests. Listen to him on KHOW 630 a.m. in the morning. He suggests the best way to fight this is to tell all your friends about it and “spring into action”. Also he suggests we all join a pro-gun group like the Colorado Rifle Association, hunting associations, gun clubs and especially the NRA.

This is just a “termite” approach to complete confiscation of guns and disarming of our society to the point we have no defense – chip away a little here and there until the goal is accomplished before anyone realizes it.

This is one to act on whether you own a gun or not.

If you take my gun, only the criminal will have one to use against me. HR 45 only makes me/us less safe. After working with convicts for 26 years I know this bill, if passed, would make them happy and in less danger from their victims.

PPG BANNER

MERCEDES-BENZ APPROVES PPG PREMIUM PAINT BRANDS FOR REPAIR WORK– STRONGSVILLE, Ohio ? February 6, 2009 ? Daimler AG, manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, announced it has approved PPG?s Global Refinish System, including its innovative Envirobase High Performance waterborne basecoat, for repair in North America of all Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. In addition, PPG?s Delfleet commercial coatings system has been approved for repair of Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles. The approvals were based on the results of a rigorous four-day audit conducted by Mercedes-Benz representatives at PPG facilities in the United States and Germany.

Michael Gimpl, Daimler AG, Manager Global Service & Parts, said, ?We are pleased to continue the collaboration with PPG in aftermarket sales as we are convinced of their premium product quality as well as their worldwide service capabilities that add value to our network.?

PPG locations visited by Daimler AG included the PPG corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the production facilities and training center located in Delaware, Ohio and the PPG European Technical Center in Ingersheim, Germany.

?We are, of course, very pleased to be recognized by Daimler AG in this manner and to continue our partnership with them,? said Kevin Loop, PPG business development manager. ?The audit, known as the Quality Management System Alignment, was extremely thorough and informative. There?s no better confirmation of quality than being approved by a premium manufacturer like Mercedes-Benz. Their choosing PPG as a paint partner is something we can be very proud of .?

The Daimler AG audit covered several elements:
? Quality planning
? Quality of supplied parts and materials
? System/process quality
? Quality product/process
? Failure management

?One of Mercedes-Benz?s highest priorities is customer satisfaction. To ensure they attain that goal, they require their partners to design, manufacture and deliver high quality products,? added Loop. ?PPG will continue to provide Daimler AG with the high quality products they expect.?

NEW LAW COULD IMPACT TRIKE OWNERS– This is a meeting report from DOC Manning, who is trying to get S986 repealed. He needs trike owners, and potential trike owners, who have an interest in this to try and attend the next meeting at DMV Headquaters in Blythwood on Feb. 20, 2009. He would like to give DMV some insight as to the different variations of 3 wheel and side car type motorcycles. Please attend if you can. See attachment for full details of the bill.

From Doc Manning: First I would like to acknowledge and thank everyone that attended the meeting in Sen. Knotts’ office;

Senator “Jake” Knotts
Lindsey Osborne Kremlick, DMV Driver Services, Operations Manager
John Caldwell, DMV I’m not sure of his title.
Scott Gilreath, Biker, State Coordinator, ABATE of SC
“Reb” Richardson, Biker, All around good guy, member of ABATE of SC
Allen Shackleford, Trike owner since 1991, and a good guy
John Manning aka “DOC”. trike owner, member of ABATE of SC, Chief instigator

The meeting started a little late, but that was no problem. Sen. Knotts had all of us come in his office and semi-formal introductions were made. Sen. Knotts started the meeting by asking about and telling the DMV folks the concerns he and the trikers are having with the new testing requirements for trikes. Sen. Knotts, also, requested that the DMV research the reason that S986 was introduced to begin with. He seemed to think that it had something to do with “money” and that it was originally requested by someone in the Highway Dept.

Sen. Knotts had to leave the meeting early due to the special Joint Session to appoint Judges, but he allowed the rest of us to stay in his office and talk things out.

Ideas, experiences, paperwork, and pictures (of different trikes) were passed out for all and a good round table discussion took place. The 2 DMV officials agreed to investigate the reason for S986 and promised to have that information in time for the Feb. 20th meeting. The 4 biker/trikers present made the suggestion to have S986 repealed outright and I had the feeling that this would be considered.

Although, no progress was made to clear up the problems, I feel we are on the right track to eliminate the difficulties that trikers are currently experiencing. On the other hand, some progress was made, it just isn’t in plain sight right now, but…………………who knows, but I am more hopeful after today’s meeting.

I feel sure that Reb and Scott can add more to this report as my note taking skills and memory aren’t so great anymore.

Remember the next meeting is on Friday, February 20, @1330 hrs @ the DMV headquarters, 10311 Wilson Blvd, Blythewood, SC 29016

Basically, take I-77 to exit 26, if coming from I-26, turn right on Wilson Blvd, get in the left lane and turn left at the light.

Right now I have 10 people confirmed to attend the 20th meeting and 3, possibly 4 trikes. This will be a show-and-tell type meeting for the DMV and hopefully a resolution to the whole problem. I did manage to invite Sen. Knotts and Sen. Grooms to the 20th meeting, also.

Reb brought up a good point to me while we were having lunch. The K.I.S.S. principle (keep it simple stupid) and I will attempt to do that.

BUTTSHOT

DID YOU PICK UP THE VIBE–I’m trying to shift away from the politics back to the sex, but we may need to fight to maintain our freedoms. Damn, I want to roll back into the shop and build a bike without wondering how I’m going to register it, or if I can ride across town without being pulled over.

A brother told me recently, “We’re the Indians now.” Those four words stick in my mind, but I know we’ll overcome. We’ll survive the stinky economy, then we’ll deal with the legislators and ride free once more. Damn, but I’m getting too old to chase young redheads.

Let’s ride.
