BIKERNET SUNDAY HOLIDAY POST PART II

Continued From Page 1

SPEAKING OF ANGELS– An angel suddenly appears at a faculty meeting and tells the dean of the college that, in return for his unselfish and exemplary behavior, he will be given his choice of infinite wealth, wisdom or beauty.

Without hesitating, the dean selects infinite wisdom.

“Done!” says the angel and disappears in a cloud of smoke and a bolt of lightning.

Now, all heads turn toward the dean, who sits surrounded by a faint halo of light. At length, one of his colleagues whispers, “Say something wise.”

The dean looks at them and says, “I should have taken the money.”

As always most of the shirts came from the little guy who sent in more than he should have. Tell the guys over at Biker’s Choice thanks for their help, it was much appreciated. The Hot Rod Girls really did a outstanding job helping us out. This year it is really cool because we got shirts from meat packers, mom-n-pop hardware stores, family owned bars, triple A ball teams, Mining Companies, water works and small towns to name a few. Real Americana bro.

This is the real America, the regular guys.

Howard

HOWARD KELLY LEAVES S&S TO RUN BIKERNET TOP OPPS CREW IN AFGHANISTAN– LA CROSSE, WI (December 05, 2009) S&S Cycle announces that Communications and Marketing Manager Howard Kelly is resigning effective 12/12/2008 to fulfill his long-time plan of leaving the motorcycle industry. Kelly will be staying in the La Crosse area, assuming a new Director’s role at Multistack Inc, In Sparta, Wisconsin (that’s just a front, don’t tell his wife).

Kelly came to S&S in 2004 with plans to work with Brett Smith to create a communications and marketing department that was the quality level to be expected from an industry leader like S&S. This past summer the S&S 50th Anniversary was the crowning achievement to that goal and the team that works with Kelly is trained and ready to serve the needs of print, television and film media properly.

“When I first arrived at S&S the plan was for me to create the service manuals, update the instruction sheet process and then start getting involved in communications and marketing. As they say, things change and the communications and marketing issues became as important as everything else. Having been a magazine editor in the past, it was second nature to understand the needs of media people and how to make their jobs easier when they deal with S&S. I am very lucky to have worked with such quality people as Bandit Bruce Tessmer, Renegade, Angee Williams, Chad Baker, Sin Wu, Kevin Sather, Carla Langyel and Shay Rihn. This is the team that will work with my replacement to continue on with the great work we did through the 50th.” said Howard Kelly.

“I and the others here at S&S have enjoyed working with Howard and we will miss him, but I am in full support of his effort to embark on this new challenge outside our industry, and wish him success. Howard will continue to help us during this transition to make it as seamless as possible.” said, CEO George Smith. Smith has an agreement with Kelly to support S&S in a consulting role to assure fluidity for media needs and communications regarding S&S and Kelly will retain his contact information at S&S for easier media access.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON FLAGS BRING ENCOURAGING MESSAGES TO OVERSEAS SOLDIERS– Soldiers stationed in countries around the world, away from the people and comforts of home, do not have it easy. Thousands of men and women risk their lives daily for their country and all of its freedoms. Harley-Davidson is helping let these soldiers know that Harley-Davidson motorcycle enthusiasts support them.

Harley-Davidson has coordinated flag signings at many motorcycle events throughout 2008. At select events, motorcycle enthusiasts are given the opportunity to write short, encouraging messages on Harley-Davidson flags. As soon as a flag is filled with messages, it is packaged for shipping to an overseas military location. Nearly 100 flags have been collected and mailed to soldiers throughout the world.

These flags have reached troops serving in such countries as Afghanistan, Iraq, Korea, Japan and Germany. Throughout the year, Harley-Davidson supports veterans through donations and backing of veterans’ organizations, including donations to the Disabled American Veterans and support for the Traveling Vietnam Wall, Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally and more.

Harley-Davidson also supports our active duty troops deployed overseas by providing a quality of life benefit through our special overseas military sales purchase program through the base exchange systems. Cops

NO MONEY IN PUBLIC SAFETY– Editor,

I read with interest the two letters regarding the ABATE Toy Run. It was disappointing that the Charlotte County Sheriffs Office declined to participate by escorting the motorcycles.

As a branch of our government supposedly dedicated to public safety, one would think they would be happy to assist a group collecting toys for disadvantaged children by insuring a safe route.

They, again, showed their lack of concern when they refused to escort the annual Marine Corps Toys for Tots Toy Run on Nov. 30. As a person involved in the planning and traffic control of that Toy Run, I know we requested them to assist and were turned down.

We had 130 motorcycles participating in spite of rain and collected a large quantity of toys and money for the Marine Corps. (A big thank you to the riders.)

I have one question for CCSO. If you didn’t have manpower or time or interest in providing safety for the motorcyclists, why did you have at least seven police cars watching us? If they were there anyway, they could have helped. I have to think the obvious.

There’s no money in blocking intersections for people collecting toys for kids. There is for ticketing any that they can find doing anything wrong.

Thanks, CCSO, you, once again, have shown your true values.

Colleen

Charlie Brechtel SUPPORTED BY HUPY AND ASSOCIATES– Charlie has visited Wisconsin a number of times, and was sponsored by Hupy and Abraham, S.C. to play a benefit for some injured bikers in the Madison area. That was a great show at the C.C. Riders MC clubhouse. He also came here, sponsored by Hupy and Abraham, S.C. and played at Great Lakes Dragaway and the Milwaukee Rally in 2007. This year he entertained during the Harley 105th celebration at Hal’s Harley-Davidson, and later at a special ABATE Tri-County party in Washington County, again sponsored by the law firm of Hupy and Abraham, S.C.

This Saturday, he will be interviewing Colleen Swartz, a well known photographer in Milwaukee. She is on the staff of Cycle Source Magazine and owns Digital Magic Big Shots, an amazing photography business. She is also a photography contributor to Keith Ball’s Bikernet.com. Visit www.big7productions this Saturday to hear Milwaukee’s own Colleen Swartz. The show stays up for one week.

While you’re there, look in the archives for an interesting interview with Fuzz, Outlaws Detroit, on Hepatitis C. He’s a survivor and a liver spokesman for Michigan. You’ll learn some interesting things from this interview. Also in the archives is the Million Mile Man, former Senator Dave Zien. His interview deals with his attempt to reach one million miles on a single motorcycle, his 1991 FXRT. He is sponsored by Hupy and Abraham, S.C. and has just over 5,000 miles left to go. He’ll complete his run in the spring of 2009. Visit www.hupy.com for his mileage tracker and Ride Journal, as well as information coming in spring about his landing party when he finally turns the dial over to one million miles.

Also, Milwaukee’s own custom bike building genius, Dave Cook, will be on the Discovery Channels new show, Motorcycle Mania. It airs Tuesday, December 9th, at 9 PM Central Time. Dave was interviewed in Sturgis for this new show, which promises to be another great offering in the motorcycle venue for our viewing pleasure. For you guys and girls in the Milwaukee area, you can join Dave and his crew for the debut airing of the show at Koozy’s Bar and Grille, 1657 S. 108th Street, Milwaukee. They’ll be in the party mood starting at 8 PM. Drop in and have some fun with them, meet Dave and enjoy the new show on The Discovery Channel.

THE WORLD’S FASTEST FAIRY TALE– Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl ‘Will you marry me?’

The girl said, ‘NO!’

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and went fishing and hunting and played golf a lot and drank beer and scotch and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Three men died on Christmas Eve– and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates.

‘In honor of this holy season,’ Saint Peter said, ‘You must each possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven.’

The first man fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter. He flicked it on. ‘It represents a candle,’ he said.

‘You may pass through the pearly gates,’ Saint Peter said.

The second man reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He shook them and said, ‘They’re bells.’

Saint Peter said, ‘You may pass through the pearly gates.’

The third man started searching desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out a pair of women’s panties.

St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow and asked, ‘And just what do those symbolize?’

The man replied, ‘These are Carols.’

redwing_450

REDWING MOTORCYCLES CHANGES NAME– Back in September of 2007, Steven Tyler, best known as the lead singer for Aerosmith, launched a custom motorcycle company along with his cousin, Stephen Talarico, and cycle designer Mark Dirico. The trio called the company Red Wing Motorcycles. That high-flying moniker may have seemed like a good idea at the time, but it turns out that the name was already taken. In fact, it’s been taken a few times. This being the case, Tyler used the New England International Auto Show, which is running this weekend, to announce that the company has been renamed Dirico Custom Motorcycles.

Yeah, so it may not be as catchy as Red Wing, but at least it’s available. As far as the bikes go, these “factory custom” machines seem like quality pieces and use mostly stock V-Twin powerplants from The Motor Company. While this means they should be pretty reliable, there’s not much here to separate Red Wing Dirico Custom Motorcycles from those of the hundreds of other “custom” manufacturers. So, what’s the hook? Each bike comes pre-signed by none other than… Steven Tyler, of course.

Endinggirl

HOLIDAY ENDING–We need to quit tinkering in the shop on the Mudflap girl bike and the 5-Ball Factory Racer and work on Christmas cards and the ever expanding Christmas list. I notice last night on the news that Ford can hang on at least until next March without an infusion of capital, whereas GM and Chyrsler are hurting now. I’m sorta a FORD fan. If the economy wasn’t so damn shaky I’d buy a new Ford Truck.

Enough of that. Buy a box of our Bonneville Books and give them to all your friends for Christmas. Only $10 a book for a box of 32 books and we’ll handle the shipping. Just call (310) 830-0630. Hell, I’ll sign every one of them.

Stay strong through this economy and the holidays. The blues will pass, the sun will shine and we’ll ride to the Badlands once more.

Ride Forever,

–Bandit
