Hey,
I’ve had an itchin’ recently to throw a Bikernet Christmas Party. I felt like the local riders and my Hamster brothers needed a holiday celebration, but as usual I was fulla shit. So yesterday I opened my date calendar. We just survived the Love Ride and California Bikes week. This weekend the IMS show covered Long Beach for the entire weekend.
Next weekend Chris Callen from the Cycle Source Magazine and Duane Ballard are stopping by the headquarters on Friday. Saturday we’ll ride out to the Moon Eyes show and over to Century Motors in San Pedro for their Christmas Party. And Sunday the Chopper Fest rocks Ventura, California. That shoots the weekend of the 13th.
The Following weekend a dozen women are taking over the Bikernet headquarters, and kicking my ass out, so goes the weekend of the 20th and Christmas is upon us. Stack those happenings on top of Christmas parties all over the country and there’s not a minute to throw a party. So fuck it. Let’s hit the news, then I’ll piss and moan about something else:

FROM THE BIKERNET POLITICAL HUMOR BIN– Q: What do you call a hundred lesbians meeting a hundred politicians?
A: Two hundred people who don’t do dick!

CANADIAN CANTINA MEMBER FOLLOWS POLITICAL ISSUES– Long time lurker but soon to be subscriber to the Cantina. Along with the anticipation of reading the Thursday news, I follow a lot of your legislative issues very closely when it comes to the biker community in general and you do an awesome job of keeping the information flowing. I thought you might get a kick out of some of the shenanigans we face up here north of your borders.
We have a private members bill that just went to a 2nd reading (Ontario Bill 117) to amend our Highway Traffic Act regarding child passengers under the age of 14. Now bear in mind, there are already measures in place within the Highway Traffic Act in regards to children as passengers on motorcycles. What’s frightening here is the member’s statistics don’t seem to add up. The General Manager of the Canada Safety Council indicated he could not find any fatality statistics for motorcycle passengers less than 14 years of age, bringing the stats used by the Member of Parliament into question. I guess I’ll just fit a sidecar to the bagger!
Here’s the link for your amusement
This follows legislation (regulation 455/07) introduced last year cramping down on so-called “Stunting”. One individual caught lane splitting, which is illegal here and already provisioned for in our Highway Traffic Act, was charged under this new law and faced an automatic 7 day suspension of his license, automatic 7 day impound of his motorcycle, and additional fines. Basically, charged and convicted right there by the roadside, all without due process or even a means to avoid this punishment prior to having the case heard.
In the first 6 months of the new law (up to April 1st, 2008) a total of 1,080 charges have been laid. Of that, a mere 325 were convicted of the actual stunting charge with the rest either pleading to a lesser charge or had their cases dismissed entirely. That’s 755 people who are a $1000 down, and have had to live without a licence for a week without any recourse whatsoever, excluding lost time at work and the fact that if you ever have to shop for insurance, you are now on record as having your license been suspended.

SCOOTER MAY STEAL THE IMS SHOWS– Interesting that in a collapsing automobile market where US automakers sales are down 40% and Japanese sales down 30%, that motorsport vehicles are down only 5%! This flys somewhat in the face of conventional wisdom that has viewed motorcycles and scooters as “toys”.
Perhaps this strong motorsport market is an anonymous given the recent sky high gas prices while today anyone can afford to fill their SUV gas tank……if they still have a job that is!
However, this gas crutch will not go away forever and my experience has been that once you get someone on a motorcycle, it’s hard to get them off. Riding a motorcycle has been characterized as “the second most exciting thing you can do between your legs!”
Looks like the market is confirming that.

Scooters may steal the show
Motorcycle exhibition this weekend in Long Beach will pay special attention to riders who value economy over power.
By Susan Carpenter
The 28th annual International Motorcycle Show, rolling into the Long Beach Convention Center today, caters to the crowd that wants its bikes bigger, better and faster. But, in a nod to changing times, there’s a new feature this year: a scooter pavilion.

BIKER RADIO MAGAZINE TURNS ONE YEAR OLD– Biker Radio Magazine has just turned one year old. Since November of 2007 the small staff of this internet based weekly show has championed motorcycles of all kinds and the sport that is associated with speed, tech, leather, tattoos and all sorts of motorcycle styles.
The very first show that appeared online was simply titled ? The Speed Show ? and featured the owner and story behind Canada?s only Streamliner along with another Canadian that set speed records on the Drag Race track with a 750 triple Kawasaki and Roger Goldammer who smoked Bonneville with a one lung Harley. Today, a little over a year later, Biker Radio Magazine has had scores of guests and covered a wide range of topics and slowly grown it?s audience along the way.
All ? Editions ? are free to download and no one has been asked for any information by way of email or even where they live. Biker Radio Magazine does not have commercials and asks for nothing from the interview guests. There is no charge to be on a show and we wouldn?t even ask for so much as a t-shirt in return. The shows are privately researched, written, recorded, edited and funded. This is very much about the sport and the Biker Lifestyle also gets coverage. All guests bring something in the way of entertainment to the party and while there are well known names on most shows the really important guests are the folks that live, build and ride in their own communities.
The next road for Biker Radio Magazine is syndication. Weekly shows will be produced and market specific imaging will be available to help localize each ? Edition ?. What makes this really enticing is that Biker Radio Magazine is offering stations an amazing deal that will not cost them anything for usage rates but instead will offer a split on commercial time revenues in individual markets on initial air dates and subsequent repeat airings. This will provide top level interviews with a Broadcasting Pro while adding Canadian Content and Talk Content with a show that follows the ever growing sport and lifestyle that is Motorcycles with no subscription fee to the radio station.
Biker Radio Magazine takes a great deal of pride in the shows that have been done to date and looks forward to continued growth in listeners in the coming year. This show is done weekly because of you and the common interest we have in motorcycles.

GEICO POWERSPORTS TO SPONSOR RICHIE MORRIS RACING BUELL TEAM– RMR Will Enter Michael Barnes in Daytona SportBike Class for 2009 AMA Season East Troy, WI (December 5, 2008) ? GEICO Powersports announced today it will sponsor a Richie Morris Racing Buell 1125R in the 2009 AMA Superbike Championship with veteran rider Michael Barnes. The RMR team will compete in the Daytona SportBike class with plans to participate in the entire 12-race series, beginning with the Daytona 200 at Daytona International Speedway under the lights on the evening of March 6, 2009.
Wisconsin-based Richie Morris Racing, which revealed its GEICO Powersports-liveried 1125R at Dunlop?s December tire test at Daytona International Speedway today, is making the jump to AMA competition after two successful seasons racing Buell motorcycles in the SunTrust MOTO-ST endurance series.
?We?ve been racing in MOTO-ST because I appreciate the vision and energy Jimmy France and Roger Edmondson of Daytona Motorsports Group brought to that series,? said team owner Richie Morris. ?I think they?ll do the same for the AMA Superbike series in 2009.
?We were introduced to GEICO Powersports last season through its support of the Bruce Rossmeyer?s Daytona Racing team,? said Morris. ?GEICO was impressed with our performance last year with a first-year motorcycle, and wanted a stand-alone team in a premier AMA Superbike Championship class for 2009. We are honored to have GEICO Powersports join Richie Morris Racing for the coming seasons. The familiar shield of Bruce Rossmeyer?s Daytona Racing will also appear on the motorcycle.?
The Bruce Rossmeyer Daytona Racing No. 8 Buell 1125R entered by Richie Morris Racing won two races and finished third overall in the premier Buell Motorcycle Company SuperSport (SST) class during the 2008 MOTO-ST season. In 2007, the team placed second in the MOTO-ST GrandSport Twins (GST) class, racing a Buell Firebolt XB12R. Richie Morris Racing last competed in the AMA Pro Superbike Series in 1999.
?We are excited to be working with Richie Morris Racing again as they compete in the AMA Daytona SportBike class,? said Eric Vaden of GEICO Powersports. ?We were involved with Richie Morris and the Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Racing SunTrust MOTO-ST team last season and they did an outstanding job for us. This is a great opportunity with a winning team and we are very pleased with how well this all came together.?
Michael Barnes, age 40, started racing motorcycles professionally in 1990 and has been an AMA regular since 1994. Barnes finished third in the AMA 750 Supersport class and won the season-finale race at Las Vegas in 1996. Racing for Team M4 Emgo Suzuki in 2006, Barnes had five podium finishes and placed third in the AMA Supersport championship. He has numerous podium finishes in AMA Superstock, Supersport, Superbike and Formula Xtreme classes. Barnes has also raced in the American Sportbike Racing Association (ASRA) Pro series, and in 2008 raced for the Bruce Rossmeyer?s Daytona Racing team entered by Richie Morris Racing in the SunTrust MOTO-ST series. Barnes lives in Boca Raton, Florida.
?It?s great to see Buell privateer race teams raise sponsorship like this,? said Buell Chairman and Chief Technical Officer Erik Buell. ?Richie Morris Racing will also be the first AMA privateer Buell team to benefit from our new race development support program, led by David McGrath, who will work with select privateer teams to develop the 1125R at the track and back at the factory.?
GEICO Powersports has committed to sponsor the team for three seasons. Additional product sponsors will be announced at a later date.
?When we created the Daytona SportBike class, it was always our vision to see a variety of motorcycle brands competing head to head,? said AMA Pro Racing President Roger Edmondson. ?It was also our belief that this type of racing program would be attractive to outside the industry sponsors. Congratulations and good luck to GEICO Powersports and Richie Morris Racing in 2009.?
AMA Pro Racing?s new Daytona SportBike class will feature a variety of high-performance motorcycles, with four-cylinder, triple-cylinder and twin-cylinder engines. Models from Aprilia, BMW, Buell, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Suzuki, Triumph and Yamaha have been approved for the class.

BIKERNET CORRESPONDENT BECOME PIRATE–Sorry I did not get my tech article done! Hey Everyone Needs Some Play Time.
It was my Birthday ? Yea another one. My self, Doris, some brothers, relatives and friends rode to Key West Florida for a party. It turns out that it was also Pirates Week so we dressed the part and took over one of the schooners. Of course it was the only one flying a pirate flag.
The schooner is named the Jolly Rover and it is docked at the Conch Republic Seafood Company. You can find out more about it by going to http://www.schoonerjollyrover.com/index.html

If you are ever in Key West you should consider going out on one of its daily cruises. As you can see we had a good time. Of course we have had years of practice at partying LOL.

The fun did not stop when we returned to shore as many of the tourists wanted their photos taken with us. There were some interesting offers from more than one female who wanted a ride on the motorcycle LOL.

I wonder what kind of stories they will take home with them. Booty, Bounty and a Happy Crew makes for a Great Birthday.
