SEMA EVENT COVERAGE AND PAINT TECHS COMING FROM JOANN BORTELS OR CRAZYHORSE PAINT– One of the fun things about writing for Bikernet is that I can cut loose and have a more Gonzo journalism approach to what I write.

I’ve been going to SEMA since 2004. Each year I run into more and more motorcycle people I know from the m/c industry, as I dash around SEMA during the week. I feel the m/c content of SEMA will only increase over the next few years.

Joanntank

Oh, and I would like to start a series of Painting How To?s on Bikernet. Something designed for the bike painter, but also for the average person who wants to try their hand at painting their bike. Something to show them you don’t need a fancy big $$ shop to do cool paint.

I’m gonna start with the basics and each segment will take it farther and farther along in the paint process, including how to paint traditional flames, real fire flames, bare metal techniques, pinstriping, ect.

Easy stuff for readers to try out for themselves. House of Kolor and SATA is on board with me and they have some great affordable products.

DID SOMEONE SAY, “PRAY FOR SURF?”–Monday surf may hit 60 feetHigh surf expected today is only a prelude to bigger waves heading for the Islands on Monday, when forecasters are predicting 60-foot faces on the North Shore. Matt Wanink, a meteorologist with the Surf News Network, said a storm is aimed right at the Islands, which doesn’t happen often.

“This is going to be a rare event and most likely the biggest swell of the year,” Wanink said . “We’re forecasting maybe up to 60-foot faces.”

The National Weather Service said an extremely strong storm north-northwest of Hawai’i with hurricane-force winds will generate Monday’s swell.

Surf will build rapidly tomorrow night and reach heights of 30 to 40 feet with 50-foot sets on the outer reefs early Monday through Tuesday night, the weather service said.

Surf conditions are ripe for the Eddie Aikau surf meet that only runs when wave faces hit 40 feet.

And although surfers and residents alike are excited about the big surf today and Monday, others are bracing for the worst in traffic and possible damage from the high surf.

Yesterday, the city began to prepare for road closures and evacuations.

Bikernet Island correspondent lives just about the corner from the North Shore. He will cover all the action or die trying.–Bandit

NEW GANG BILL INTRODUCED– This bill (BR 120) is one that could affect just about any group out there as per the definition of how they define a gang. Things can help to define a gang or gang activity include information from a parent or relative. Information from a reliable informant and other characteristics that define every group from the KMA, the Boy Scouts to the Legislature themselves.

This could apply to the GWRRA as well as the State Police the way things are defined in this bill. It also removes certain items we pushed for several years ago to give us the protections from wrongful prosecutions and witch hunts. There is no need to change the law. The bill allows for nearly every law enforcement agency and the schools to place you in criminal gang database.

What happens if you get into an argument with the school principal or teacher and you have a support shirt or H-D shirt on, are you now a gang member. This is a nasty bill and one to get active on and start making the calls. 800-372-7181 is the hotline number to leave a message for your legislators. The folks there will help if you do not know who they are. They are open M-F from 8-4:30pm so make your call during those times and your message will go to the legislators. Pass the word and get going on this one.

–Jay Huber

BR 120 – Representative Jody Richards AN ACT relating to criminal gangs.

Create new sections of KRS Chapter 17 to permit law enforcement and prosecution agencies to share criminal gang information; create a new section of KRS Chapter 431 to permit an action for civil damages in criminal gang activity and criminal gang recruitment cases; create a new section of KRS Chapter 431 to permit courts to enjoin criminal gang activity and criminal gang recruitment activity; create a new section of KRS Chapter 506 to create definitions relating to criminal gangs; create new sections of KRS Chapter 506 to create the crimes of criminal gang recruitment in the first degree and second degree and permit seizure and forfeiture of criminal gang assets and property; amend KRS 506.150 relating to evidence necessary to establish criminal gang activity; repeal KRS 506.140 relating to criminal gang recruitment and definitions.

Climate change data dumped–Sunday UK Times– SCIENTISTS at the University of East Anglia (UEA) have admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based.

It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years.

The UEA?s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) was forced to reveal the loss following requests for the data under Freedom of Information legislation.

The data were gathered from weather stations around the world and then adjusted to take account of variables in the way they were collected. The revised figures were kept, but the originals ? stored on paper and magnetic tape ? were dumped to save space when the CRU moved to a new building. Related Links

* EU figurehead says climate change a myth

The admission follows the leaking of a thousand private emails sent and received by Professor Phil Jones, the CRU?s director. In them he discusses thwarting climate sceptics seeking access to such data.

In a statement on its website, the CRU said: ?We do not hold the original raw data but only the value-added (quality controlled and homogenised) data.?

The CRU is the world?s leading centre for reconstructing past climate and temperatures. Climate change sceptics have long been keen to examine exactly how its data were compiled. That is now impossible.

Roger Pielke, professor of environmental studies at Colorado University, discovered data had been lost when he asked for original records. ?The CRU is basically saying, ?Trust us?. So much for settling questions and resolving debates with science,? he said.

BIKERNET HOLIDAY TRAINING REGIMEN SPONSORED BY DANNI ASHE– Want to Lose the Love Handles? Each Saturday’s DRWEIL.COM Daily Tip in December will cover novel fitness options that are beneficial for weight management and overall health. Try them on for size in the New Year!

If the treadmill has become tedious and the bike boring; why not liven up your fitness routine with something a little different? Try belly dancing! This form of dance has evolved from traditional expressive movement to heart-pumping workouts offered in gyms across the country. Aside from working muscles that most people don’t exercise in regular workouts, belly dancing is a great opportunity to learn about the music and traditions of unfamiliar countries and cultures.

In general, dancing of any kind is wonderful for your body. Aerobic exercise promotes overall fitness, conditions your heart and respiratory system, stimulates immunity and increases stamina. It also tones your nervous system, reduces stress, helps with balance and coordination, increases oxygen flow throughout the body and gives you a sense of well-being and empowerment.

Dancing is one of the best aerobic activities of all because it’s upbeat and enjoyable, and provides a thorough workout.

NRA-ILA GRASSROOTS ALERT– Vol. 16, No. 48 12/4/09 The U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to hear oral arguments in the McDonald v. City of Chicago case on Tuesday, March 2, 2010.

The McDonald case is one of several that were filed immediately after last year’s decision in District of Columbia v. Heller , in which the Court upheld the Second Amendment as an individual right and invalidated Washington, D.C.’s ban on handgun possession, as well as the capital city’s ban on keeping loaded, operable firearms for self-defense in the home.

On November 16, the NRA filed its brief with the U.S. Supreme Court as Respondent in Support of Petitioner in McDonald v. City of Chicago. The NRA brief asks the U.S. Supreme Court to hold that the Second Amendment applies to state and local governments through the Fourteenth Amendment.

Two Against Two: Bloomberg And Lautenberg Pair Up To Violate The Second And Fourteenth Amendments

Is your name the same as, or similar to, that of someone on the FBI’s “terrorist watchlist?” Or, have you been erroneously placed on the watchlist? You can’t find out because the FBI won’t say exactly why people get watchlisted, won’t say who has been watchlisted, and therefore doesn’t offer watchlisted people the chance to clear their names immediately.

In fact, small children, federal air marshals, military personnel who have fought terrorists overseas, the late Sen. Edward Kennedy, members of Congress, and many other good Americans have even been stopped from boarding commercial aircraft for this reason. The government has reported that there were 700,000 names in the watchlist as of April 2007, and the ACLU estimates that the number has since risen to 1.3 million.

HANG ON FOR NEXT WEEK–Let me check my notes for next week. I need to document my old biker favorite recipe for the gang at Paughco. They are creating a biker recipe book, and I’ll add my Pinto Beans and corn bread chow with jalapenos and beer. We will launch the Motorcycle Cannonball and Illusion Motorcycles as sponsors. Johnny Humble, in Texas, is going to help me put Joann’s SEMA event feature together.

DAoncruisers
Watch for more Dick Allen ultimate Cruiser designs in the Bikernet News this coming week.

Monday I need to work on my book, and maybe through a portion of Tuesday. Then all my focus will divert to the final 5-Ball racer tech. It’s a monster, with almost 50 images. I need to make an appointment with a local Social Security office. I’m turning 62 next year and can apply now for Social Security benefits. Rip’s wife Patti died last week and there’s a memorial today in Yucipa, California.

Also, Phil Ross, the master of Supermax passed away last week of cancer. His lovely wife wanted me to promise our readers that she will keep the SuperMax legacy alive, forever. Her son, who is about to retire from the military, and several friends have vowed to help. The Ventura Chopperfest by Dave Hansen, is happening next Sunday at the Ventura fairgrounds.

Todds1

Todds2

Plus we have several features lined up for Bikernet readers, including Ross’s classic chopper, Gard’s shop girl for the Cantina (cute!) and this Road King feature from Todd’s Cycle. If all goes well, you might see one of these features hit the pages of Bikernet late next week. Oh, good god, we’ve got to finish our Christmas cards, make a Christmas list, find some money, or hope to win the lottery. Have a helluva holiday, goddamnit.

Ride Forever,
