Hey,
There’s just not enough time in a day. Is it the Holidays or my list of projects? I feel like we are scrambling through November and December, like shit through a goose. Tomorrow we will finally launch a bunch of book and DVD reviews. Kevin Thomas, kindly covered the Wolfgang Panhead Restoration tech book, the Vincent in the Garage book, and Riding the Edge book on the Pagans from Motorbooks. We will cover the Inspire DVD from Australia, the Cafe Society DVD and HarborTown Bobber from the Choppertown crew.

We are also going to write about Lawyer, Michael Hupy’s Busted informational DVD. Everyone needs to watch this short, half-hour program several times. It’s a legal survival program, and reminds us how we should know our rights during several legal scenarios; being pulled over during a traffic stop, cops coming into your pad and being searched on the street. For more information on this stocking stuffer go to: www.FlexYourRights.org.

I’m keeping my fingers cross that my Chance book will head to the printers next week, thanks to Bruce Snyder, Jon Towle and Trent Reker. Keep your fingers crossed. Let’s hit the news:

LONE STAR COVERAGE COMING– I was watching TV the other day and caught a On Star commercial where the police are looking for a stolen Tahoe and On Star kills the engine and the first thought I had was a story from Easyriders probably late ’70s early ’80’s? I don’t remember the story exactly, but motorcycles had been outlawed and some guy has kept his in a case. or something but in running condition and decides to take it out for a ride and the cops fry the electrics on it, that one and one about a guy and his girl getting shot and he can’t see so she guided them home, that was a freaky cool story.

KENTUCKY SPECIAL ELECTION COMING NEXT WEEK– This message goes out from the Kentucky Motorcycle Freedom Fund P.A.C. We have a special election coming up this Tuesday Dec. 8th for the open seat created by Sen. Dan Kelly leaving to become a circuit Judge. So if your state Senator was Dan Kelly then this applies to you. The district is Senate District #14 and includes Marion, Washington, Taylor, Mercer and Nelson counties. So if you may know folks who live in those counties then please pass the word on to them as well.
We have been talking to both candidates for the spot and feel based on his past record and our work with him while in the House recently that we recommend Rep. Jimmy Higdon to fill the open seat. Jimmy has cosponsored and helped bills in recent years we have supported and helped when possible to push them along. In the Senate he could continue that work and help even more. Remember having the right people in the right places is a key to passing or killing any pieces of legislation and we think Jimmy will help Kentucky motorcyclists to do just that.
This is the last weekend before the vote this TUESDAY so as you are out and about please spread the word to anyone you know in this area. If you would like to learn more about Jimmy or to volunteer then please check out his website at http://www.jimmyhigdon.com
Lastly another House district has a special election happening as well. It is for the House 96th District which was vacated when Robin Webb won the Senate race earlier this year. This district is in Northeastern KY and includes Carter and Lewis Counties. This election will also take place on Dec. 8th as well. Jill York has been nominated from the Republican side and Barry Web for the Democrats. We can work with either candidate so please pick one and let them know you are a biker and go to work for the one you like best. Once again being involved is our strength.

TRIBUTE TO HIS FOLKS CFL BUILD– Here are some better pics of my 2006 CFL Let me know if you need any details I built this as my first ground up build in memory of my parents whom my sister and I lost in 06 and 07 @ my new company San Diego Customs, which I started after quitting working for Harley Davidson for 5 long years as a service foreman / advisor .
There is far more to motorcycles than what’s in their catalog and I knew it was time to go off on my own and be even poorer than i was working for them, yet 1000 times happier .

On my CFL there are a few things that I have got from some people on your builds list such as Marc from Kilby Deuce, he did my license plate mount, FU taillight by Bill Dodge, custom Mini Villain by sean from the metal shop customs and one of my fave trinkets , a crown gas cap I had received when I had the pleasure of meeting Gard Hollinger from LA Chop Rods .
The rest is stuff i thought about including a custom front end I made from all stock H-D parts from years ranging from 1995 – 2007 . Brakes are by PM in rear and HD in front w Lyndall Racing rotors.

Primary is Primo. Trans is H-D as well as the motor, its a stock 80″ with some special sauces to make it hot ! The seat is by some guy who used to work with Dave at Choppershox but I was just informed he had died last year . RIP to him . A lot of learning happened while doing this but it spawned a whole new era of building bikes for me . I can only thank my parents daily for the ability to do this and I do daily .

FATHER OF THE YEAR– A man boarded a plane with six kids.
After they got settled in their seats a woman sitting across the aisle from him leaned over to him and asked, “Are all of those kids yours?”
He replied, “No. I work for a condom company. These are customer complaints.”
Wish I could think so quickly.

Bikernet janitor shakes a baby, steals keys and runs off with 2010 Victory Cross Country Bagger– How’s this for a catchy headline? That’s right, Bikernet will stop at nothing to get your attention much like your cheesy local evening news. But the comparison stops here, my friends. Now here’s the real scoop: yesterday, Victory delivered to us a 2010 Cross Country hard bagger for evaluation. We get to ride it around for a couple of weeks so we can give you a full ride report.

Last week we published an informative model overview of both the Cross Roads and Cross Country. With these two new clean-sheet riding platforms, Victory is broadening its touring/cruiser line. The folks at Victory have told us that the two bikes are game changers, so we’re looking forward to see just what the Cross Country is capable of, on a variety of riding conditions.
Stay tuned, and until then visit your local Victory Motorcycles dealers or go online to find out more.

XR1200s Backflipped on Two Continents– The race was on in late November between two motorcycle daredevils on opposite sides of the world competing to be the first to backflip a Harley Davidson XR1200 motorcycle. Australia’s Kain Saul beat American Chuck Carothers to the punch when he accomplished the feat in Sydney on November 27, just a day ahead of Carothers successful jump in Prague. Saul’s jump is believed to be the first ever successful backflip for any fullsize street motorcycle (non-motocross or dirt bike).

Custom Chrome and Kirk Taylor of Custom Design Studios Partner for 40th Anniversary Bagger Build– MORGAN HILL, CA 12-02-2009 Custom Chrome and Kirk Taylor of Custom Design Studios are pleased to announce that they have teamed up to produce another show-stopping custom; only this time it’s a bagger and it’s one of 2 custom bikes Custom Chrome has commissioned to have built to commemorate their upcoming 40th Anniversary Celebration in 2010.
Custom Design Studios is known for their award-winning ground up customs, paint work and parts. Building on their close relationship and wanting the ability to showcase what can be done with a little hard work and some of the finest aftermarket components available from the Custom Chrome catalog; Custom Chrome turned Kirk loose to include engine modifications, components and featured products from the catalog. Kirk added a few of his own twists and then off to the paint booth for a fresh coat of DuPont Hot Hues paint.
“I like these kinds of projects because they allow me to take what I am given and create a motorcycle that anyone could recreate just by ordering parts from their local CCI dealer. Rich Fulk and I spent a lot of time reviewing new products Custom Chrome would be selling in the upcoming catalog and came up with quite the parts list. I enjoy doing ground up customs but this type of project gives customers the opportunity to see what they can get done to their bikes by adding custom parts and paint,”? explained Kirk Taylor.
Kirk has created several one off parts for this build that CCI will start carrying in their catalog including a new handlebar for baggers. Rich Fulk, Product Line Manager for Custom Chrome was quick to identify these handlebars as being something they would want to be able to offer in the 2010 40th Anniversary Custom Chrome catalog as well as Kirk’s Dicks Cool Unit velocity stack.
“We went to Kirk and his team because of all the other work they have done for us to support previous projects. He’s been there to get paint and bodywork knocked out for us in the past as well as fabrication. We decided this time to turn the whole project over to him and let him do more than just paint. We knew that we would get a truly unique motorcycle that was well thought out and would be a daily rider and that’s what we got,” said Holger Mohr, CEO of Custom Chrome.

MAP OUTLINED FOR MOTORCYCLE CANNONBALL IN 2010– Cannonball’s Course Master, John Classen, has painstakingly mapped out a route for the hearty men and women motorcyclists that squarely address the particular nuances of this ride. “Our route was chosen in order to avoid having the riders enter a single interstate whenever possible. We’ll have 12 hours of daylight each day, and a goal of having every rider check in at the day’s ending point 1 hour before sunset. We don’t want anyone having to deal with the safety issues of meeting up with the local wildlife after dark, and we are expecting some break downs.” Click to see the proposed route.
Classen is well aware of the ins and outs of these types of contests. With over 20 years experience directing various motor sport competitions, a long-time member of the Sports Car Club of America, and having personally competed as a navigator in the Great Race for five years, where he won the title of Champion Navigator for the race in 1984, John knows his way around a route. In March, he will personally drive the shore-to-shore course for the Motorcycle Cannonball in the first of two pre-run trips to produce precise driving instructions for entrants and to smooth out any wrinkles along the way.

Hugh Hurt Jr., Engineer Who Studied Motorcycle Accidents, Dies at 81– Hugh H. Hurt Jr., a safety engineer who in 1981 did the first meticulous study of motorcycle accidents, emulating air-crash investigations to zero in on when cycle accidents were likely to occur, died on Sunday in Pomona, Calif. He was 81. The cause was a heart attack, said his son, Hugh H. Hurt III, who, like his father, is called Harry.
“The field of motorcycle accident research didn’t exist before Harry Hurt,” Dexter Ford, who was an editor at Motorcyclist, a monthly magazine, for 30 years, said in an interview Wednesday.
Mr. Hunt led a team that investigated 900 motorcycle accidents in the Los Angeles area in 1976 and 1977. Each was studied according to a thousand criteria by taking photographs, examining wreckage, measuring skid marks, studying police reports and interviewing survivors, among other techniques.
Investigators revisited each accident site at the same time on the same day of the week that the accident occurred, and in the same weather conditions. This was done to measure traffic and to interview motorcyclists who had successfully dealt with the same circumstances.
Mr. Hurt’s team was hired by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, part of the federal Transportation Department, at a time when many baby boomers were taking up the sport and fatalities were rising.

EASY ON EASY OFF BILLET SFT SHIFT ARMS– Softbrake’s pumped up billet inner shift arms for SFT models are a direct replacement for the stock one piece shift assembly. Unlike the flimsy OEM pieces that are welded to the cross shaft, these heavy duty arms are CNC machined from a thick piece of billet and splined to slip on and off of a separate shaft. Machined with an offset for proper alignment the arms are available in 3 styles, slotted, ball milled and slotted. Universal by design each arm is supplied with either a long of short cross bar.
The short bar allows for a single shifter without the hangover encountered when converting using the stock shaft. The longer shaft is designed for heel and toe applications and once again the shaft is splined for easy removal and precise adjustment.
Softbrake’s billet inner shift arms shift arms retail for $120.00 in chrome and $130.00 black powdercoat. Each shift arm come with your choice of single or heel-toe shift shaft. For complete details call North County Customs at 714-680-0911 or catch the complete Softbrake line at www.softbrake.com
