JURY AWARDS WIDOWER $21.6 MILLION– WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A distracted driver who caused a 2004 crash was negligent and a stay-at-home father who was left a widower after the wreck should receive $21.6 million, a jury ruled Thursday.

Stephen Beers filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Sheila Hulick and the corporation that owned the company car she was driving when Hulick was involved in a rush hour crash that killed Beers’ wife, Lesley Beers.

Beers’ attorneys argued that Hulick was distracted on the road because she was talking on her cell phone. Hulick’s attorneys conceded their client caused the wreck, but told the jury that it was not because she was talking on the phone. The jury deliberated for two hours before it reached its verdict.

TEXAS FIREFIGHTERS HIGH AFTER BATTLING MARIJUANA FIRE– EDINBURG, Texas – Firefighters who spent half an hour fighting a blaze in which 2,000 pounds of marijuana went up in smoke breathed so much of it that they would have failed a drug test, a fire chief said. It took more than 35 firefighters, 1,000 gallons of water and five gallons of chemical suppressant to extinguish the warehouse blaze on Wednesday, Fire Chief Shawn Snider said.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were investigating the origin of the drugs. The Hidalgo County fire marshal was investigating whether arson was the cause. Snider said Thursday the firefighters were exposed to so much marijuana smoke that they would not be able to pass a drug test, despite wearing air packs to prevent them from inhaling toxic or hazardous fumes.

EXCLUSIVE QUICKIE SMOKE OUT EVENT REPORT– We just got back from the Smoke-Out. It was a BLAST! I was talking to Edge about the event, and how I think it is the best biker event going. It is always well organized. It appeals to both the older riders and the young. There is something there for everyone.

The vendors are as varied as the bikes. If you have the chance to be the sponsor next year, go for it. I don’t know what all it involves but I think with your name and the BIKERNET name behind the Smoke-Out, it would only grow and that is good for everyone. (EDITOR’S NOTE: We are a sponsor, goddamnit!)

I have attended all of the Smoke-Out events, and if I could only attend one bike related event per year this is the one. I did not hear where the new site for next year’s event will be, but I really don’t think it will matter as the Smoke-Out attendees seem to be very loyal to the event.

SEX CRAZED BIKERNET READERS DIE– Two people died early this morning after they apparently fell off a four-story building across the street from Finlay Park, Columbia police say. A taxi driver found a man and a woman in their early 20s – neither wearing any clothes – lying in the street in front of the building in the 900 block of Laurel Street, police spokeswoman, Sgt. Florence McCants said.

The victims were alive when rescue workers arrived at the scene, McCants said, and were taken to Palmetto Richland, where they were pronounced dead a short time later.

“It appears as if the two individuals were on the roof and could have accidentally fallen off the roof, onto the street,” McCants said. There was no indication of foul play. The two fell about 50 to 60 feet, McCants said.

Police found clothing for two people on the roof of the building at 900 Laurel Street, McCants said, and nothing else. She said police can only speculate at this point what they might have been doing on the roof.

BIKERNET BONNEVILLE QUICKIE REPORT– Aircraft spruce and supply co., in Corona, they also have a websight, aircraftspruce.com. Good place, big catalog. We also discovered NOS equipment and quick _-turn fasteners for sale at a Summit Racing website.

This year we, (SCTA Speed Week, not Bubs) will have three courses. Two of them are 5 mile, and one is two miles long. There will be timing traps, one mile long, between the 1 and 2 mile clocks, 2 and 3 mile clocks, 3 and 4 mile clocks, and an exit speed clock at the 5-mile mark. Records can be set at any of the mile long traps, after the first mile, which is used to get up to speed. You will be able to use any of the three courses, after you use the short course to get licensed.

Record speed is the average of two passes on the same mile of ground. Confused? There should be an explanation on the SCTA/BNI web sight in the next couple days, maybe a diagram of the courses.

There will be a hand out with diagrams given to you on the salt. We have 157 motorcycle pre entries, and probably will have 20 or 40 more that enter when they get there. BIG meet.

DEWEY’S HEEL TOE ACTION– I have some of those heel hammer shift levers that I didn’t spline broach yet, just a hole. That might work better for you. Do you want one, FREE, you tight bastard. You are tighter than the bark on a tree. Thanks for the article. Are you using your Salt Shaker? Ole Bob from R-B racing sent me another LSR 2-1 pipe, those pipes are sweet. They have a great sound. Kinda sounds like me, when I pop out a sewer pickle. Nice rumble!

ITALIAN STYLE PIG STORY– The Three Little Pigs – Italian Style Once upon a time there were three little pigs. The straw pig, the stick Pig and the brick pig.

One day this nasty old wolf came up to the straw pig’s house and said, “I’m gonna huff and puff and blow your house down.” And he did !!!

So the straw pig went running over to the stick pig’s house and said, “Please let me in, the wolf just blew down my house.” So the stick Pig let the straw pig in.

Just then the wolf showed up and said, “I’m gonna huff and puff and blow your house down.” And he did !!!

So the straw pig and the stick pig went running over to the brick pig’s house and said, “Let us in, let us in, the big bad wolf just blew our houses down!”

So the brick pig let them in just as the wolf showed up The wolf said, “I’m gonna huff and puff and blow your house down.” The straw pig and the stick pig were so scared!

But the brick pig picked up the phone and made a call. Three minutes later, a big, black Caddy pulls up. Out step two massive pigs in pin striped suits. These pigs came over to the wolf, grabbed him by the neck and beat the fuckin’ shit out of him. Then one of them pulled out a gun and put 2 in his coconut.

Then they tied cement blocks around his feet threw his sorry ass into the creek, they got back into their Caddy and drove off.

The straw pig and stick pig were amazed!!! “Who the hell were those guys?” they asked.

“Those were my cousins………….. the Guinea Pigs!!!

Bonneville 2007 sponsor banner

BIKERNET LOOKING FOR TELEVISION SHOW SPECIAL SPONSOR– For 10 Grand we are producing a hour long special on the World Fastest Panhead Record attempt. Here’s a note from our director:

Aaahh! Sorry. I seem to be saying that a lot lately. (Both, actually.) I’ve been so focused on trying to get a meeting, or at least a phone call, with the new owner of “Steel Dreams TV” that I’ve let other things slip.

My problem right now, to put it bluntly, is that I don’t have a pot to piss in. I would LOVE to be able to bring someone down to Wilmington to shoot once, twice, whatever, but I can’t afford anything.

I know you are pressed for money as well, so at the moment I don’t quite know what to do.

I’m hoping that if I do actually get to talk to the new SDtv owner I can bring your name in to the conversation. He needs to know what a valuable resource you and Bikernet.com could be for him and I definitely think it would be of benefit to you as well or I wouldn’t even have mentioned it.

Ultimately, what I’d like to be able to sell him on, is the idea that footage from Bonneville would be just the thing for SDtv. And if we’re going to do Bonneville, we’d want to see at least part of the build. But first, the shmuck has to get back to either one of my calls, or email inquiries. My life is all about hurry up and wait right now.

GOOD NEWS FROM JACK DANIEL DISTILLERY– You may have seen or heard reports about how the drought in Tennessee is affecting production at the Jack Daniel Distillery. Well, we wanted to take time to write and remind you of the old adage, “Don’t believe everything you read or hear!”

While it’s true Tennessee and other Southeastern states are experiencing a pretty severe drought this spring and summer, we can assure you that we have plenty of water from our Distillery’s cave spring to make our Tennessee Whiskey. The water level may be down somewhat, as it typically is during the summer months, but it’s currently flowing above what we need for whiskey-making.

We have been making Jack Daniel’s with water from this cave spring for more than 140 years and have never had a water shortage. That’s not to say we’re not taking conservation measures. We are using the cave spring water to make Jack Daniel’s, as we always have, but we’ve cut back on using it for any other secondary purposes, such as cooling or cleaning. That’s just being responsible and respectful of the resources that make Jack Daniel’s so unique – the cave spring water, charcoal-mellowing, charred white oak barrels, fine grains, and the seasonal changes that Mother Nature offers us in the Tennessee hills.

In addition, our warehouses are filled with barrels upon barrels of Jack Daniel’s going through the maturation process. When the whiskey from these barrels reaches full maturity, we’ll pull those barrels and bottle the whiskey the same as we always do. In other words, your favorite retailers and bars will continue to have plenty of our Tennessee Whiskey on hand.

If you’ve been concerned about the various media reports, we hope we’ve put your mind at ease. And if you hear your friends talking about this, please let them know we’re continuing to make Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey and, as Mr. Jack said many years ago, “Every day we make it, we’ll make it the best we can.”

I’VE GOT A CONCERN ABOUT JACK DANIELS–I don’t have any. I’ve been asking about that household discrepancy for several weeks. The women around here don’t have any good, goddamn answers.

Okay while I pray for margaritas, here’s the line-up for next week. Another Bonneville Report, the Rivera six in a Shovel tech, Laconia for Paul Garson, Sparks, Nevada cop problem report, Coast To Coast Legislative news, Softail Tech from Wolfgang and a Woodstock event from Australia. We’ll see. Plus I have another Booze Fighter Bike feature.

This coming week is gonna be downright demanding, non-stop, and exciting. Shit I need to meet with Chica, maybe Johnny could handle that feature. We have some new talent looming around the headquarters who want to write for Bikernet. I’m hoping Hiwayman will work on the Joe’s garage feature with Don Whalen and I’m taking the King over to Gene’s Speed Shop to have a new cam installed with a S&S gear drive. That one’s on me.

It’s never a dull moment around here or in this lifestyle.

Ride Forever,

–Bandit
