A Bikernet study worth sharing with friends both male and female– A study conducted by UCLA’s Department of Psychiatry, in the Bikernet.com Medical Wing, has revealed that the kind of face a woman finds attractive on a man can differ depending on where she is in her menstrual cycle.
For example: If she is ovulating, she is attracted to men with rugged and masculine features. However, if she is menstruating, or menopausal, she tends to be more attracted to a man with duct tape over his mouth and a spear lodged in his chest while he is on fire.
No further studies are expected.

LEGENDARY CHOPPER BUILDER SUGAR BEAR TO SPEAK AT HARLEY-DAVIDSON MUSEUM– Sugar Bear to present ?Untold stories of the American chopper? on November 13.
MILWAUKEE (October 27, 2008) ? For 37 years, Sugar Bear has built street-rideable choppers with a consistent philosophy: ?If it ain?t long, it?s wrong.? On Thursday, November 13, at 7 p.m. the Harley-Davidson Museum will present a special evening with the legendary bike builder as he shares untold stories, rare photos and home movies of the early days of the American chopper scene.
?We are honored to have Sugar Bear tell his story at the Harley-Davidson Museum,? said Stacey Schiesl, Harley-Davidson Museum Director. ?The evening will be an unforgettable experience that will leave guests inspired.?
From his first introduction to the movement in the 1960s to opening his own ?chop shop? in South Central Los Angeles in 1971, Sugar Bear is a chopper culture icon. Sugar Bear learned alongside mentor Ben ?Benny? Hardy, who built pop culture?s two most famous choppers: the ?Captain America? and ?Billy Bike? from the movie Easy Rider. While the original Easy Rider bikes were destroyed in the movie?s production, two replicas are on display at the Harley-Davidson Museum.
?Sugar Bear has been building choppers longer than I?ve been alive,? said Jesse James, custom bike builder and founder of West Coast Choppers.
In his presentation ?Untold stories of the American Chopper?, Sugar Bear will share stories from the early days of the chopper scene through his own memorabilia. The evening will include an introduction by Karen Davidson, Director of Harley-Davidson General Merchandise and great-granddaughter of one of the Motor Company founders, and an audience Q&A session, moderated by Jim Fricke, Harley-Davidson Museum Curatorial Director.
In addition, from Thursday, November 6, to Thursday, November 13, one of Sugar Bear?s famous choppers, affectionately named ?Gorjus,? will be on display in the Harley-Davidson Museum lobby.
Reservations to attend are required and space is limited. The event is free to Harley-Davidson Museum members and $10 for the general public. Reservations and tickets are available starting Tuesday, October 28 at www.h-dmuseum.com. Doors to the event will open at 6 p.m. The Harley-Davidson Museum will be open until 5 p.m.
For more information on the Harley-Davidson Museum and how to become a member, visit www.h-dmuseum.com.

BIKERNET FORUM BOARD AVAILABLE FOR COMPLAINTS, ROAD SUGGESTIONS, TECH QUESTIONS, YOU NAME IT. IT’S FREE GODDAMNIT– The piece I wrote is up on the forum, with some enhancements. I’m keeping my head down. Let’s see what happens…. ;-).
Had an excellent ride through wine country yesterday 190 miles. Grape vines turn fall colors before their leaves drop. You can smell the wine grapes that didn’t make it to the trucks as you go by the vinyards. Real cool stuff. Was hoping it would be one of those clear, crisp Autumn days, but it actually got into the 90’s before we got home. Weird fucking weather.

We’re still grappling with our Sturgis ride, but Alaska may be out. It’s eats too much time, but we still want to cut that dusty trail sometime. I’m going to find out where Dale Walksler is moving his fantastic Museum, somewhere in Arizona. Maybe we’ll meet there and ride onto the Badlands. Hang on for future reports. So far Chica and Billy Lane want to tag along.–Bandit

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE (Written by Ed Moreland) Voting Now, And Combating Threats In The Future, Are Key– The upcoming national elections are likely to be the most historic in recent memory. And given the hand-wringing, chad-counting and late-night punditry that accompanied the last few elections, that’s saying something.
We are at a watershed moment in American politics. More importantly, we stand at a crossroads in American motorcycling politics that is likely to have far-reaching implications for riders well into the future.
Now, more than ever, it is critical that we remain engaged in the electoral process, advocate for our core issues and increase our efforts to expand the depth and breadth of motorcyclists’ interests in the halls of Congress and across America.
Naturally, most of the bright lights have been shining recently on the presidential race. But given the nature of most motorcycling legislation–they’re often small pieces of much larger bills–side-by-side comparisons of voting records aren’t enough to gauge a presidential candidate’s true position on motorcycling issues.
That’s why it’s important to remember that when it comes to riders’ issues, the more significant battles are taking place in Congress.
All 435 members of the House of Representatives and a third of U.S. Senators are up for election. Why is this so important? Because it’s in the halls of Congress that legislation is dreamed up crafted and voted on for the President to sign into law. And the upcoming 111th Congress is likely to weigh in on nearly every core issue of interest to American riders.
Among the most comprehensive pieces of legislation to be considered in the next four years will be the reauthorization of the federal highway bill. In play for this omnibus bill will be motorcycle safety and education programming, funding for offroad trail construction and maintenance, bridge and highway tolling, continued access to HOV (High-Occupancy Vehicle) lanes, protections against intrusive government interventions, continuation of the Motorcyclist Advisory Council, and language to codify the need for including motorcycles in the development of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Moreover, the new Congress will be considering the application of public-private partnerships that may shape where, when and at what cost motorcycles are granted access to HOT (High Occupancy Toll) lanes and roads leased by our government to private, for-profit entities.
Additionally, the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management will continue to conduct trail inventories and further develop motorized vehicle management plans that will ultimately affect where and how motorcyclists can ride. This is especially important as recreational riding opportunities are already under threat all over the country.
Health-insurance discrimination against motorcyclists will also likely be addressed.
If we are to succeed, we must marshal all the help we can get. That’s why I encourage you to reach out to your federal office candidates and find out where they stand on the issues most important to you as a motorcyclist. (For contact information for your federally elected officials, visit the Rights page of www.AmericanMotorcyclist.com.) Also, don’t forget to make your concerns known to your state and local candidates.
After the elections, the work really begins. That’s why I’m proud to announce the expansion of your AMA’s government relations department. As detailed on page 24 we will be adding personnel in our Washington, D.C., offi ce, and increasing our presence in other parts of the country. In addition, we’re planning our annual “Ride Into Political Action” seminar February 21-24 in Washington D.C., where concerned motorcyclists from across the country will learn from AMA experts how to champion legislation that protects our riding rights.
Our goal is simple: we intend to represent AMA members more forcefully and effectively, and have more infl uence with the decision makers who affect riders’ lives. We look forward to joining with our motorcycle community partners to face the challenges ahead.

–Ed Moreland is the Vice President for Government Relations of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA).

There’s a major point the media has ducked in their election bullshit. The presidency is just one of the elements of our federal government. The Senate and the House of Reps are just as powerful. Ed made the most vital point. Our government is only as responsible as the people involved. We need to get involved, besides it’s our government.–Bandit
