earl

HOT ROD TRIBUTE COMING TO BIKERNET SPECIAL REPORTS– Earle was a major player back in the 40-50s…WWII vet, early hotrodder, top class night club singer, appeared in a few dozen B musical films, owned jazz bars, buddies with Errol Flynn and Clark Gable.

A long line of fast cars and fast women as well as some trouble with the law, all of which he managed to escape. I’m working up a chronicle of his many activities and will forward.

earlcar
The brothers took Earl’s ashes to El Mirage and let ’em fly during some classic passes.

I was sending out the story as a way of extending the celebration of his life to people who might be interested even tho they hadn’t met him as well as to those who did but couldn’t get to the “farewell” party we’re having in Eagle Rock yesterday.

He was a one of a kind personality and left his friends and about anybody that ran into his path an indelible impression.

2009 ROLLING THUNDER REPORT– Made it out to Rolling Thunder 2009 last weekend. We were fortunate enough to ride early in the crowd and had completed our ride before 1PM. We hung out downtown for about an hour or so and left. We rode back past the Pentagon and the North parking lot was still about half full and the South lot (the overflow lot) still had a crowd in it.

The Marine at the turn on Constitution who reminds us that freedom isn’t free. This Marine is there to salute every bike as it rides by. He’s there for several hours in full dress, at attention and saluting. Hell of a guy and a fitting tribute to those who gave all.

Take care. I still owe Bikernet a couple of ride stories. Hopefully, I’ll get to them, but I just keep ridin’ instead of writin’.

ANOTHER UNDERCOVER BIKERNET INVESTIGATIVE TEAM TRACKING MYRTLE BEACH RESTRICTIONS TO MOTORCYCLING– This is an update regarding the Myrtle Beach Helmet Tickets and the efforts of the freedom fighters who took part. I would like especially thank all the SC BOLT and ABATE of SC members who took part. I would also like to thank the many other diverse groups and individuals that took time to ride on the nasty wet and cold Saturday February 28th. ~FF

Some 49 of the motorcyclists (freedom fighters) who took part in the Myrtle Beach Freedom Ride and who were ticketed for helmet violations have had their cases stayed yesterday. Tom filed motions to have the cases dismissed due to lack of jurisdiction. The original city ordinance mandated that the violations, which are civil in nature, be heard by a special tribunal created by the city. However, since that time the tribunals have been found to be unconstitutional (or at least suggested to be by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of South Carolina). The city moved the cases to municipal court.

However, the State Code of South Carolina specifically states that the municipal courts do not have jurisdiction over civil matters. Since the city served the 49 defendants via mail after the Chief Justice’s ruling, they were forced to admit that the infractions were civil in nature since you can’t serve a criminal complaint by mail. That put the City of Myrtle Beach in a box since State Code says the municipal courts do not have jurisdiction over civil matters. The court decided to stay the trials of these matters while deciding how to rule. The court has stated that none of the defendants need to appear on the scheduled dates. We expect a ruling soon. In the mean time a motions have been file in the South Carolina Supreme Court to declare the ordinances void. More information will be forthcoming as it is made available.

joke

BIKERNET FAMILY COUNSELING INVENTION– John was a salesman’s delight when it came to any kind of unusual gimmick. His wife Marsha had long ago given up trying to get him to change.

One day John came home with another one of his unusual purchases. It was a robot that John claimed was actually a lie detector. It was about 5:30 that afternoon when Tommy, their 11 year old son, returned home from school. Tommy was over 2 hours late.

‘Where have you been? Why are you over 2 hours late getting home?’ asked John.

‘Several of us went to the library to work on an extra credit project,’ said Tommy.

The robot then walked around the table and slapped Tommy, knocking him completely out of his chair.

‘Son,’ said John, ‘this robot is a lie detector, now tell us where you really were after school.’

‘We went to Bobby’s house and watched a movie.’ said Tommy.

‘What did you watch?’ asked Marsha.

‘The Ten Commandments. ‘ answered Tommy.

The robot went around to Tommy and once again slapped him, knocking him off his chair once more.

With his lip quivering, Tommy got up, sat down and said, ‘I am sorry I lied. We really watched a tape called Sex Queen.’

‘I am ashamed of you son,’ said John. ‘When I was your age, I never lied to my parents.’

The robot then walked around to John and delivered a whack that nearly knocked him out of his chair.

Marsha doubled over in laughter, almost in tears and said, ‘Boy, did you ever ask for that one! You can’t be too mad with Tommy. After all, he is your son!’

With that the robot immediately walked around to Marsha and knocked her out of her chair.

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER OPEN ON WEEKENDS–6 Ways to De-Stress Your Home– Your home – whether big, small, or somewhere in between – should be your sanctuary, a place where stress is left at the door and your soul is nurtured. For a more comforting environment, gradually implement the following changes into your home:

Bring the outdoors in. Green plants, cut flowers and blooming bulbs, or pieces of wood, rocks and other organic elements can create a feeling of nature indoors.
Paint a room to suggest a mood. For instance, blue and green promote a relaxed feeling and may be good choices for the bedroom, while warm colors (maroon, coral, burgundy) suggest a cozy environment and may be inviting in a family room.
Surround your senses with beauty. Artwork, fragrance, smooth textures and calming sounds all provide a pleasant environment in which to relax.
Set aside a room or area for peace and calm. A place for spiritual reflection and meditation can provide shelter from noise and distraction.
Clean out clutter. A low-maintenance home is refreshing after a day of hectic meetings, errands and chores. Fewer items can mean less frustration.
Create an atmosphere of love. Display handmade or meaningful gifts from loved ones and photos of family and friends.

Dave Zein

Million Mile Motorcycle Man Visits Hupy and Abraham, S.C. Office — On Wednesday, May 27th, former Wisconsin State Senator Dave Zien visited the Milwaukee offices of Hupy and Abraham, S.C.

As you probably know, Zien completed his 18 year journey on his 1991 FXRT when he rolled over the odometer marking 1,000,000 miles on the same motorcycle, a new world record. Hupy and Abraham, S.C. sponsored his record breaking attempt and the landing party on April 4, 2009, at Hal?s Harley-Davidson in New Berlin, marking the historic event.

In recognition of this new world record, the Harley-Davidson Motor Company gave Zien a brand new 2009 Road Glide on April 6th, two days after his world record was recognized by Michael Kneebone, President of the Iron Butt Association. Visiting the law office of Hupy and Abraham less than two months later, Zien had an impressive 17,000 miles on the odometer of his new bike. That?s more than most people ride in a year, and he has seven months more to go in 2009. Any bets on his ending mileage on December 31st? We?ll post it for you in case you?re curious.

Controversy Over Home For bike

Since his world record, there has been some controversy over where the bike should be displayed. Right now it?s in Sturgis, South Dakota, at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum. Zien was inducted into the Museum Hall of Fame there; as were two members of his final lap entourage, John ?Rogue? Herlihy of Melbourne, Florida, and Tony ?Pan? Sanfelipo, founder of ABATE of Wisconsin and Hupy and Abraham, S.C. investigator.

Some people think the bike should remain in Wisconsin. On May 26th, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter, Patrick Marley, wrote an article about the controversy. Click on the link below to read the internet version of the story. http://www.jsonline.com/news/wisconsin/46024032.html

GUN LAW MOVEMENTS FROM NRA– Your Help Is Needed In Support of BATFE Reform Bills S. 941 And H.R. 2296

As we reported earlier this month, Senator Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) have introduced S. 941, the “Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Reform and Firearms Modernization Act of 2009” in the U.S. Senate. Representatives Steve King (R-Iowa) and Zack Space (D-Ohio) have introduced a companion bill-H.R. 2296-in the U.S. House. The bills would roll back unnecessary restrictions, correct errors, and codify longstanding congressional policies in the firearms arena. These bipartisan bills are a vital step to modernize and improve BATFE operations.

Of highest importance, S. 941and H.R. 2296 totally rewrite the system of administrative penalties for licensed dealers, manufacturers and importers of firearms. Today, for most violations, BATFE can only give a federal firearms license (FFL) holder a warning, or revoke his license.

ending shot

LET’S PARTY–Ride, drink whiskey and touch women in that special way. Even during strange times, we need to find a balanced approach. We need to make some time to support our sport, but don’t forget to party the day after. I’ll see, if I can’t apply that mantra tomorrow.

Ya can’t be a sloppy drunk all the time, but a nip once in a while takes the edge off. Okay, so next week we will chase down a new Girl of Bikernet to give you that fairer sex break, without destroying your family to mess with the Senator’s daughter. Tom Foster is due to roll over so I can write his bike feature. I’m also working on a Peter Linney feature shot in Long Beach, but the builder is Ken from Japan, so we’re performing a long distance interview.

Next week I’m wrapping up a motivational piece about joining your local motorcycle rights group and sporting our sport. I’m writing this for the annual Buffalo Chip Newspaper, to be distributed prior to Sturgis.

We are working on our SEMA Working Group Agenda, with the MRF, NCOM and with a dealer association’s input. Anybody can join SEMA. I need to know how the aftermarket industry can help motorcycle rights groups and what direction they recommend.
