BIKERNET SWAPMEET SUNDAY POST

Leadshot

Hey,

I know I’m running late. We crawled out of the rack at 6:00 a.m. to meet with some old pals and hit the Long Beach Swap Meet. It was old home week between legends in the industry and old rusting parts. What a strange mixture of parts and deals.

sm pin up

Tim from Negotiable gave away a super rare ’50s KHKRL for next to nothing. An old builder had two pristine bikes for sale, a ’78 Shovel for $8000 and a late model Heritage for $10,000. Incredible deals.

sm parts

I just receive a call from Lisa Ballard. She’s still in the Biltwell Booth in Long Beach. She has my 5-Ball Factory Racer seat, finished from Duane Ballard. Holy shit, should I drop everything and run back? Let’s hit the news:

BurlyBars

Burly Narrow Ape Line adds a Twelve Incher? Last year Burly brought us 14? and 16? narrow bottom apehangers that looked oh so right on Sporties and other Narrow Glide front ends. This year it looks like they?ve added to the line with a stubby 12? version. Available in black or chrome, the 1? diameter bar reeks of old school styling with the added bonus of an easy to reach 12? rise. Dimpled and drilled for easy internal wiring the new 12? apes are a perfect compliment to the Burly collection.

Check out the Burly web site or contact your local dealer to get a set and look for their new cable/line kits as well!

LEPERA CLASSIC SEATS COMING TO BIKERNET–Our sponsors help keep our Bikernet Headquarters lights on. There are several services we provide for sponsors, such as running their parts in the news, tech articles, bike builds, road tests, you name it. From time to time we have a sponsor who doesn’t take advantage of these services. That’s cool, but our mantra calls for doing our Bikernet utmost to help them pay their utility bills.

The gang at Le Pera Seats have been pals for decades, but haven’t taken advantage of our services. So we initiated a supreme command conference call and muscled Christine into sending us a shot of a classic Le Pera design. She was so intimidated by Renegade’s tough guy approach, she immediately caught a flight to Italy and signed up for a cooking class.

“I just pulled this shot,” Christine said. “Call off the dogs. It is Bare Bones for an 08-09 Dresser with a Demon Faux Blue Alligator with Gold stitch.”

She’ll be back in a week and we will continue to bring you shots of Le Pera classic seat designs.

Vincent book

The Vincent in the Barn Great Stories of Motorcycle Archaeology– It?s every motorcyclist?s dream. A friend or acquaintance says, ?You know, there?s an old bike that?s been sitting in this garage for years.? The hunt is on. The Vincent in the Barn tells forty such stories–tales of motorcycle hunting dreams come true. From Ducatis in basements to Vincents abandoned in sheds, Harleys in barns to Brit bikes moldering behind urban garages, these are the stories that fuel every motorcyclist?s fantasies. OLDBOBCLARK

DD6 BAKER TRANSMISSION SALE–Note: For better get-up-and-go, a 27-tooth compensating sprocket is available as a no-cost option. Overdrive is obtained through the primary, so this ratio reduces strain on the starter with 14% more torque. The lower RPM in the primary drive reduces resonant noise found in Twin Cam transmission cases at higher primary RPM?s.

? Roller detent shift drum, with fixed spindle, eliminates shimming and misalignment.
? Finding neutral is very easy with a redundant neutral detent. It also makes installation simpler and less risky to screw up.
? Inner primary race/spacer included.
? 3-point contact shift forks, hard chrome plated for extended life.
? Shifter pawl assembly with improved geometry for a perfect response. Includes a built in overshift protection for smooth, precise shifting. ? Primary chain included with kit.
? 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears are straight cut to prevent lateral tension in those high torque, short-used gear ranges.
? Stiff, precise billet aluminum bearing door that offers more bearing-protecting lateral rigidity than any other helical gearset available.
? Proprietary fork rod made to bearing grade specifications which eliminates hang-ups.

Normally the BAKER DD6 retails at $2495, but during this celebratory sale, we are offering it to the public at $1995. The BAKER Online store also offers special features for our Dealers. Clearing Up the Rumors: The Truth About The “Gun Tax Bill”– Over the past few months, NRA-ILA has received hundreds of e-mails warning us about “SB-2099,” a bill that would supposedly require you to report all your guns on your income tax return every April 15.

Like many rumors, there’s just a grain of truth to this one. Someone is recycling an old alert, which wasn’t even very accurate when it was new.

There actually was a U.S. Senate bill with that number that would have taxed handguns nine years ago. It was introduced by anti-gun Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), and it would have included handguns under the National Firearms Act’s tax and registration scheme. This has nothing to do with anyone’s Form 1040, of course.

Fortunately, S. 2099 disappeared without any action by the Senate, back when Bill Clinton was still in the White House. We reported about it back then, just as we report about new anti-gun bills every week. Now, it’s time for gun owners to drop this old distraction and focus on the real threats at hand.

Joker Machine?s Modified Speedway Barely Misses Breaking Long Standing Speed Mark– The Joker Machine / Cody Racing / JRM Bonneville Bike ran at the BUB Motorcycle Speed Trails August 30th through September 3rd at the Bonneville Salt Flats, in an AMA & FIM sanctioned event, to break the speed record for the MODIFIED ALTERED FUEL 500 CLASS M-AF.

Joker Machine?s Geoff Arnold reports on the run at the record with rider Billy ?The Bullet? Hamill:

?Well we are back from Bonneville. What a week! As you may already know we ran 144.2 mph. This is not bad but the record still stands at 145.2 mph?..one mph short, what a bummer. But what a great week, Billy and I learned so much. Going to Bonneville is like no other experience you will ever have, it?s unreal. You get up everyday at 5:00 am and get done a 6:00 pm. Being on the salt all day is about as hard a days work you will ever have.

GEOFF-BILLY-Joker

One of the coolest things about working there is meeting all the people. Everyone from the fellow competitors to the AMA staff was great and made Billy and I feel very welcome. Making new friends and seeing old ones turned it into a bitchin week and one to look forward to for next year. I highly recommend going to Bonneville if you get the chance. It?s worth it to check it out once in your life. You?ll dig it.

Samson

Also this would not be possible without Dennis Manning and his staff at BUB for putting on such a great race. All the volunteers and the AMA folks, great job and thank you. And for Billy and me one big thanks to our sponsors, who without them we would be lost and would have never gotten as close to our goal as we did. My wife Diane Rawson, without her it just wouldn?t happen. Come on ? she put up with Billy and me for week on the road ? what a trooper.?

Saddlemen is proud to have provided a custom-made seat for this machine. Here?s to setting the record next year!

BIKERNET WHISKEY CHARITY RUN REPORT– Sorry, I didn’t realize your computer had been down. I’m an impatient asshole sometimes…well, ok…most of the time. I went to the liquor store yesterday to restock, and they had a really great deal on Gentleman Jack. Tried it last night and am really impressed. Much smoother than regular Jack or Bulleit..in my humble opinion.

Trying to get out of town to Dallas. Sorry for the delay, but next week I’ll get you a bottle. Let me know if you would prefer the Bulleit though…it’s your call. The Gentleman Jack is usually pricey.

–Sam

That bastard Bandit will drink any Jack, Bulleit or Tullamore Dew from Ireland. Just let us know when it’s shipped, so the staff can leave town.–Renegade

I watched a little more and noticed your changes it to the left side of the tank like it was done back in the day. I see they won. I thought it was awesome bike.

Brammo: Bill Seeks to Open Funds to Electric OEMs– maker of the plug-in electric Enertia motorcycle, has issued a press release in which it states that the U.S. House of Representatives has passed an amendment giving two-wheel electric vehicles manufacturers access to Department of Energy funding for further development of electric vehicles.

The amendment reportedly is included in H.R. 3246, the Advanced Vehicle Technology Act, which passed the House on Sept. 16 and has been referred to a Senate committee.

?For the EV industry, this will allow, for the first time, two-wheel vehicles to benefit from federal Department of Energy funding,? the release stated.

Brammo founder Craig Bramscher stated, ?It?s gratifying to see the House of Representatives recognize the tremendous potential of the two-wheel electric vehicle industry and their recent move to better equalize federal government support between electric motorcycles and cars. Brammo appreciates the efforts of U.S. Representative Patrick J. Kennedy and the rest of the House to gain passage of this important amendment, and we look forward to continuing our work with our industry coalition partners, Plug IN America, who was also instrumental in getting this legislation passed.?

Brammo encourages voters to tell their U.S. Senators to support and pass the measure when it comes up to vote.

The Brammo Enertia, which graces the October cover of Motorcyclist magazine, is being sold through select Best Buy locations. The electronic retail chain is an investor in the company. ?What we?re selling is a lot closer to consumer electronics than to transportation,? Bramscher told Greentechmedia in late February.

Chris Carr regains motorcycle world land speed record– Piloting the BUB Streamliner ‘Lucky 7’ at the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah, yesterday, Chris Carr regained the motorcycle world land speed record with a new mark of 367.382 mph.

Still awaiting ratification by the FIA, the time was the average of the requisite two opposite direction passes and was set during a ‘private time’ session booked by the Denis Manning’s BUB team following the tricky conditions and fire experienced at the BUB Speed Trials at the beginning of the month.

Full details and pictures will appear on the team’s website shortly, and in the November edition of AMD Magazine.

AMD Magazine is a proud sponsor of the BUB ‘Lucky 7’ streamliner and extends its congratulations to Chris Carr and the entire BUB Racing team.

Custom Chrome picks up Rinehart Racing exhaust distribution– Custom Chrome has announced a distribution deal with Rinehart Racing owner and founder Gerald Rinehart that will see it carry Rinehart’s True Dual and Slip-On exhausts. First product is slated for dealer availability in mid-November, with dealer orders being accepted immediately.

Rinehart says it will service special fitment, race application and orders from non Custom Chrome dealers direct.

“We are extremely excited to partner with a premium performance exhaust manufacturer of the likes of Gerald Rinehart,” said Holger Mohr, CEO of Custom Chrome. “This new announcement is consistent with our pledge to our growing dealer network to provide access to exceptional products.

“We believe we have the team in place and the focus to be able to meet the performance needs and dealer service standards, without order value minimums, to make Rinehart an important profit opportunity for Custom Chrome’s dealers worldwide.” Commenting on the appointment of Custom Chrome, Gerald Rinehart said that “This is a new chapter in the life of our company. It will afford us the freedom and flexibility to continue to offer our current product line, while exclusively developing innovative new products as we respond to changes in industry needs.

“Custom Chrome’s commitment to promote and sell our products globally means the Rinehart brand will reach new markets and provide us with new opportunities. We have always been determined to consistently provide the motorcycle industry with cutting edge technology and innovation.

“With the backing of one of the market’s longest-established performance and custom parts distributors I believe Rinehart Racing will continue to develop more strongly than ever as one of the world’s premier sources for performance exhausts.”

Custom Chrome says it plans to add the Rinehart line, including ‘Cross Back’ 2-into-2 systems, to a special 2010 40th Anniversary Catalog that is scheduled for release early next year, and that R&D is already underway on additional new Rinehart Racing product lines that Rinehart and Custom Chrome say they can see market demand for.
