DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT

GET’ER DONE

ROGUE

I can’t tell you how often I hear the words, “Some One Should Do Something About It.” Well, I got news for you there are a lot of people doing something about it, no matter what the situation is.

Case in point Motorcycle Safety. Though there are numerous people and organizations doing this around the country I am going to tell you about some in Florida.

Right now Florida is the highest state in the country for motorcyclist getting killed and injured. The state has passed a new law to increase penalties and continues to use campaigns to educate riders in hopes they can defend themselves on the roadway. None of this seems to be working.

Since we have not been successful in reducing the collisions and crashes the next best thing is to keep the rider alive.

Accident Scene Management kicked off by Vicki Sanfelipo in 1996, and now is taught around the world. You can find out more about it at Accident Scene Management and Road Guardians, What’s the Difference? | Road Guardians

Diane MacLennan – “DMAC” is the lead instructor in Florida – Diane Borges-MacLennon (Dmac) – ASM Lead instructor | Road Guardians

Steve Kliemisch is the President of the Lagoon Chapter of ABATE of Florida  and also VP of the state. He can be reached at ABATELGNpres@gmail.com

He is very active in all things involving motorcyclists and feels that the more people who take these classes the better chance we have of saving lives.

Attorney Moe Dewitt a personal injury attorney and the President of The National Academy of Motorcycle Injury Lawyers – www.JUSTCALLMOE.Com sponsored the class, discussed insurance policies and the Good Samaritan Law. He also said he would be interested in supporting others in the future

Working together they recently held the 8 hour – “ A Crash Course For The Motorcyclist” class in Melbourne Florida at American Legion Post 81.

The Class included Lagoon and other ABATE Chapter members, motorcycle clubs and interested parties. Those attending got class materials, a certificate of completion and a patch. EMS personnel are eligible to receive CAPCE continuing education credit.

I support these classes because they do work.

Seven years ago my son Dale got center-punched while riding his motorcycle by a vehicle making an illegal left turn. In the vehicle behind him was a nurse who stabilized him until the EMTs arrived Saving His Life.

I took this class and the advanced class over 10 years ago and from time to time again through the years, Just Sayin’.

I would strongly suggest you consider taking a class like this, because you never know when you can save someone’s life.

I would like to see other ABATE Chapters, Legion Riders, Motorcycle Clubs and other groups take the class

If you are interested in or know anyone who is hosting one of these courses, please contact the people noted above and let the Bikernet staff know. We will share the news far and wide.
