Hey,
Wow the missions are piling up. We started a group to encourage the city to be in favor and supportive of the Sturgis rally. At our last meeting we met with comissioner Ruth Kopp who suggested we start an effort to save, rebuild and make the historic ½ mile come alive again.
There was a plan, but it blew up a few months ago. This one will be more grass roots. I’m going to look for a history book on ½-mile flat track racing. We are going to bring it back in a big way for the community of Sturgis. Not just racing but parades, rodeos, and walking paths will be available.
We met with the AFT bosses today and the TT, Adventure racing and Short Track is back in Sturgis at the Jackpine Gypsie’s property.
Pappy Hoel conceived the rally around racing, and Vinnie from the Uglies suggested to the city a street name change from Junction to Pappy and Pearl Blvd.
We listened to a lengthy presentation from TC who wanted desperately to coral a baby Buffalo calf downtown for the rally to educate and introduce brothers and sisters to Buffalo and the hazards of getting too close in the wild. It was a fight, but finally a citizen stepped forward and offered her property on main just east of the Museum. This little calf will be a major Rally draw.
Let’s hit the news. I’m sure more stuff will surface.

Tax Credits For Purchases Of American Made Motorcycles
The recently passed H.R. 1 legislation signed by the President includes a provision that will directly benefit those who purchase new motorcycles made or assembled in the United States. Interest paid on loans for qualifying new motorcycle purchases will now be tax-deductible.
Here are some important points to note. The deduction has a cap of $10,000 and the benefit phases out based on increasing income levels. The change creates an “above-the-line” deduction for vehicle loan interest, meaning it reduces your adjusted gross income before calculating your taxable income. The position of the deduction is important because it will be available to most taxpayers, even those who do not itemize deductions. The bill states that vehicles impacted must be “manufactured primarily for use on public streets, roads, and highways” and are “a car, minivan, van, sport utility vehicle, pickup truck, or motorcycle.” This policy is temporary, with an expiration in 2028. If you are in the market for a new bike over the next three years, be sure to do some research to see if this new policy will benefit you.
There are diverse policy issues and priorities addressed in this bill. As the voice of the street rider in Washington, D.C., the Motorcycle Riders Foundation applauds the inclusion of this tax provision. Policies that foster the growth of motorcycling while supporting American manufacturing are something we can stand behind.

HAMSTER AUCTION TO RAISE MUSEUM FUNDS–
Here are some progress pics of the donation bike. I know a few things are out of proportion but it’s all just done out of my head. No CAD or CAM. just hand fabrication on everything. And after all it’s an art piece. It’s pretty much Indian Larry’s Rat Fink with a few Wimmer touches . I hope you like it.

Lee’s wild miniature chopper will be available at the Hamster Auction and the proceeds will go to the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum.

NEW 5-BALL 85th Rally PRODUCTS IN THE EMPORIUM—
I received an ardent message about picking the color for the gold on our 85th Anniversary apparel. I jammed to Spearfish to Alpine Impressions to speak to Katie. She took me in the back where shit happens and I discovered an entire wall of inks.

I was asked to pick a gold-like color. Katie explained gold can look anywhere from orange or yellow to green. And then she showed me this bucket.

The Redhead is decorating, scrambling to handle inventory, training staff, dealing with Winos and crazy carnies who wander the rally streets.

Danial James is headed out with art and a special 85th Law Tigers piece to be unveiled on Monday.

LIFESTYLE CYCLES DEAL OF THE WEEK–FXSTB/FXSTBI Softail Night Train
The blacked-out theme and stunning new Lava Red Sunglo paint of the Night Train® are enough to pop any set of eyeballs from their sockets. But you really have to ride this animal to appreciate it. So plant yourself in the minimalist seat, stretch your boots to the forward foot controls, reach to the drag bars, and there’s no holding back.

It feels aggressive. No wonder we had to get dark with the styling. A black powder-coated, counterbalanced EFI or carb-fueled Twin Cam 88B™ power mill with wrinkle- and textured-black covers. Black tank console, black rear fender supports, black air cleaner cover and black oil tank. We gave it a laced front and disc rear wheels. Then topped it with a new 3-D tank medallion, finished in aluminum and, of course, black. Availability of colors may vary from dealer to dealer, and is subject to change without notice. Pearl: additional $240

THE RISK OF RIDING–Riding a motorcycle offers a thrilling sense of freedom and adventure, but it also comes with serious risks. Unlike enclosed vehicles, motorcycles provide minimal protection in a crash, making safety a top priority for every rider. By understanding the real dangers of the road and learning how to avoid them, bikers can take control of their safety.
At Feller & Wendt, LLC™, we believe that knowledge is power when it comes to motorcycle safety. This guide brings together the latest statistics and expert insights to help riders make informed choices. Whether you are a seasoned biker or just starting out, understanding the data can make a life-saving difference.

BIKERNET GUN NUT REPORT–Today, freedom won — and you made it possible.
The Ninth Circuit Court ruled in our favor, striking down California’s unconstitutional law AB 2571, which banned firearm-related marketing that could “appeal to minors.” Their goal? To erase the next generation of safe, responsible gun owners.
We stopped them.
The court agreed: California’s attack on free speech and gun rights goes too far. The ruling confirms our previous win and makes it clear:
Governor Newsom and the state may appeal. Again.
We’ve seen this pattern before — and they won’t stop unless we stop them.
Will you help us? Your $25, $50 or $100 donation today will help preserve this victory and strike a blow for the Bruen standard! Donate today!
This case wasn’t just about legal language — it was about protecting young people’s ability to safely and proudly learn about firearms, hunting, competition, and heritage.
We won’t let California erase that. But we need you with us.
Stand with CRPA. Stand for the Constitution.

STURGIS RALLY FLYING PISTON ACTION-–
Where Art Meets Asphalt – Inspiring the Next Generation of Riders
The Flying Piston Benefit returns to the legendary Big Engine Bar at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip for 2025. Now in its 11th year, the event continues to grow in reach and impact—adding one more school, one more class, and helping shape the next generation of riders, thanks to presenting sponsor Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys.
“Five years in and I’m still all in,” says Wendy Koro. “We’re not just giving kids bikes—we’re giving them freedom. That first ride? It can change everything.”
The Flying Piston Benefit is not your typical fundraiser. It’s a high-octane celebration of motorcycle culture and creativity, all in support of All Kids Bike, a nonprofit initiative placing Learn-to-Ride programs in kindergarten PE classes nationwide. The program includes bikes, helmets, pedal kits, and teacher curriculum—offering kids their first introduction to riding. The school selected for this year’s benefit will be announced soon.
Event Highlights:
- Tiny Custom Striders – Unique, hand-built designs by legendary motorcycle builders
- Special Appearances – Meet icons like Billy Lane, Bob Kay, and Keith “Bandit” Ball, among others
- Silent Auction – One-of-a-kind custom painted skateboards, custom gear, and rare collectibles
- Builders Breakfast – A lively morning meet-up for networking, inspiration, and a good cause
- Kick off – Sunday, August 3rd at 8:30AM Mountain Time.
- Auction: https://qtego.us/qlink/flyingpiston
“This event brings together the best of the motorcycle world—where creativity, community, and charity intersect,” says Marilyn Stemp, Flying Piston co-founder.
Since its start, the Flying Piston Benefit has been a unique part of Sturgis—where custom culture meets meaningful impact. It’s proof that passion projects can do more than just turn heads—they can change lives.

HOT FROM MORRIS MAGNETO–B5 M8 Magneto
Fully Automatic Morris Magneto B5 for M8 Harley-Davidsons! M8 magneto with our Impulse Coupling for great starting; same system as on our M5, G5 and H5 mags.
Morris Magneto announces the latest addition to its line-up of fully automatic Magnetos. The US made high-voltage unit fits Harley M8 engines and eliminates a plethora of wires and components, getting your bike back to a simpler setup that is more reliable and easier to troubleshoot/repair if you do have issues. No connection to the motorcycle’s 12-volt system is necessary. The unit bolts on in place of the stock cam cavity cover, punching up the custom look of your machine. Other unique features include a drive gear access plate, an integral oiling system, and an impulse coupling for compatibility with both kick and electric starts. Select option for two bolt Carb adapter and Carb support for either S&S G spacing or E spacing for Competition Use Only! The M8 engine can be run off of just two spark plugs with no issues. If you’d prefer to run all the plugs, you can add two of our MSF wire kits to have dual plugs running off of one magneto and single fire (so no wasted spark).

TRANSAM NEWS—Meet a Rider: Nathan Grubb
My name is Nathan. I live in Florida with my beautiful lady Angel. I am passionate about riding, building, collecting, and racing vintage American motorcycles, along with an unwavering love for peanut M&M’s.
I bought my first motorcycle 30 years ago when I was 15, a crappy old 1972 Honda CB750. I traded that bike a few years later to my brother for a worn-out Whirlpool washing machine because I was smelling extremely poor from trying to kick-start that old cycle in the hot Indiana summers. I quickly realized I did not need the washing machine as much as I was no longer kickstarting that old piece of exercise equipment, so I decided to buy an even worse headache, being an IronHead sportster. I have ridden old Harley-Davidsons ever since and have mastered fixing worn-out washing machines. I have raced a brakeless, handshift WR since 2020 and recently added a 1924 Harley JE board tracker to my pits.
I will be the least knowledgeable racer with the smallest amount of experience on these vintage machines, but guaranteed to have the biggest smile every mile and will grow as we roll. I’m beyond grateful for my friends Sean and Tom at Comp D, who were willing to work with me to make this dream a reality, and my great friend Blair for being my wingman. If you see us broken down on the side of the road, please toss me a big yellow bag of M&M’s and Blair a protein bar so we don’t starve! See you on the open road!
Hey race fans!
It’s creeping closer… are you ready for century-old motorcycles tearing across the country?
We’re closing in on the start line of the Motorcycle TransAm, and the buzz is building, whether it’s in the garage, on the road, or around the shop. Riders are already out shaking down their bikes, getting ready for the adventure of a lifetime.

COMPETITION DISTRIBUTING HISTORY LESSON–Kickstarts & Chronicles: C.T. Ashby
Article from The Vintagent: Those Dashing Racers of the 1920s: C.T. Ashby
You can almost smell the castor oil burning off the hot motor of Cecil Ashby’s 1925 Zenith ‘Championship’ racer at Brooklands after winning the 200-mile race in 1926. C.T. Ashby had a rapid rise in his racing career, appearing like a meteor in 1924, and promptly winning both long-distance track events and road races in the UK and Europe. As a former fighter pilot in WW1 with the RAF, he considered motorcycle racing relatively tame, and enjoyed riding big machines like the 1000cc Zenith below, which made smaller road racers (more typically 350cc and 500cc) seem like child’s play by comparison. “If one is used to to holding a machine capable of 100mph…the 500cc machine used for road racing feels ridiculously easy to manage” (from an interview in Motor Sports, Nov. 1926)
Cecil Ashby was an interesting fellow, who took up racing seriously only in 1922, a mere three years before the epic header shot of this article was taken. He joined the Royal Air Force immediately after graduating from Grays College in Essex, and spent two years in relatively safe transport duty, before taking a pilot’s license and indulging in two more years of ‘cloud scraps’ (dogfights) over Belgium, experiencing a few crashes and ‘nasty moments’, as he put it. After the war he set up in London as an import/export merchant, and in 1921 he bought an Indian V-twin with a sidecar, then a Rudge Multi. He raced neither machine, but purchased a 500cc N.U.T. V-twin, a nearly forgotten make today but one that had won the Isle of Man TT before WW1, and continued briefly after the war as a racing contender. Ashby’s first races, while not winners, certainly gave him the bug, and led to a shift of careers.
In 1923 Ashby took a job as sales manager for the Wooler Engineering Company, makers of the famous ‘Flying Banana’ motorcycles using flat-twin motors that could be totally dismantled using a single wrench. Woolers were not known for speed and were generally not raced, but in November that year Ashby took one to Brooklands, where it recorded a 67mph lap from a standing start, which astonished everyone! Sadly the Wooler was not used to such treatment, and expired, as did the Wooler Engineering Company soon afterwards. Ashby was undeterred, and joined Coventry-Eagle as their southern sales and competition manager. He used a 500cc sidevalve model in various reliability trials, but soon switched allegiance to the W.J. Montgomery Co, holding the same job titles. In the summer of 1924 he rode a 350cc Montgomery with J.A.P. OHV motor in the Isle of Man Junior TT, in which he finished a creditable fourth place.

STURGIS RESOURCE APP NOW AVAILABLE–
I developed a new app for the 85th. I’m an old marketing guy who learned how to build web-based apps, so I thought I could do better than what was out there.
The SturgisRally.App is a web-based app because I really dislike downloadable apps. I really don’t like that app software on my phone. I don’t like the bureaucratic bullshit the app stores pull on developers and users.
I’m hoping that you can take a look at it and let your BikerNet readers know what you think about it. www.sturgisrally.app
We have all the information the other Sturgis-oriented sites have, but much more.
Our Road To Sturgis section will help users along the road as they travel to the rally and back home.
Our Rally Communities section lets our users know schedules in towns included in the rally area, and also gives local advertisers an opportunity to let our users know they want their business.
Our Yellow Pages section is unique. No plumbers or electricians, but listings for all things bikers want and need during the rally.
I could go on and on with descriptions, but if you take a few minutes to look at the app you will know that we didn’t take any shortcuts. This app was not built by some automated website builder. We built it by hand, piece by piece.
I’d also like to offer you some space in the app without any cost to you for advertising and promoting the blog, the emporium and anything else you want to let people know about.
I’m really hoping you will take a few minutes to have a look and then let your many readers know about it – the good, bad or ugly. I think after using the app you will like how it functions and will like that our users don’t have to download any code on their phones to get good rally information.
Thanks for taking a look!

STEP INTO THE BIKERNET TEMPLE OF INSPIRATION–
There is a Law of Attraction in Our Lives
“What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday.
And our present thoughts build our life of tomorrow.
Our life is the creation of our mind.” – Buddha
There is a Law of Attraction always at work in our lives. We are either attracting or repelling our Good. Just like a mirror, which simply reflects what stands before it, the Law of Attraction reflects back to us the dominant thoughts, beliefs, and conversations we carry within.
The Law is impersonal—it doesn’t judge or filter—it simply responds. If we dwell on thoughts of lack, limitation, sadness, fear, or doubt, then that is what will be mirrored in our life experience. But if we consciously choose thoughts of Love, Joy, Abundance, Peace, Faith, Trust, Confidence, and Prosperity—then Life responds accordingly, and great Good unfolds before us.
We must become vigilant guardians of our thoughts and words. Refuse to engage in negative self-talk or harmful conversations with others. Activate your “negativity force field” and interrupt that stinkin’ thinkin’ before it takes root. Know that there is a Power always responding to the vibration of your beliefs—so make sure you’re sending out the vibration of your highest Truth.
Today, affirm:
I accept that the Law of Attraction is always active in my life.
I know that Spirit is ready and willing to deliver all the Good I am willing to accept.
Today, I release all stinkin’ thinkin’. I replace it with thoughts of Truth, Faith, and Joy.
I declare that my words pierce through any fear, clear all doubt, and dissolve all obstacles—allowing what is Perfect, Whole, and Complete to emerge in my life.
My life unfolds in Right and Perfect Order.
I am so Grateful for this Truth—My Truth.
Today, I witness the visible results of these powerful words.
And so it is.

Namaste.
“Within you now and always is the unborn possibility of a limitless experience of inner stability and outer treasure, and yours is the privilege of giving birth to it—and you will, if you can believe.” – Eric Butterworth
Spiritual Practice for Today (If You Choose):
Write down 5 or more thoughts, words, or feelings you are ready to release.
Next to each one, write a new word you are choosing to replace it with.
Throughout the day, when you notice the old thought arise, pause… smile… and replace it with your new word.
Laugh with love at the old patterns—they no longer have power over you. You are choosing your Life anew.
–Yale

THE CROSSROADS–
Since I rolled into the Black Hills I’ve faced any number of crossroads. If you read the temple message above think about it. I just used the word crossroad. I could swap it with something more inspiring, like opportunities.

I’ve stumbled on constant opportunities for the motorcycle community in Sturgis. Everything seems intertwined. If we help further racing in Sturgis, we not only assist the rally, but the museum and the industry.
There are folks who think the rally has caused a 4 million deficit in Sturgis over the last three years. The rally didn’t cause the problem, management did. Folks come and spend bundles here. If the funds are mismanaged it’s on the city to correct. I believe they are, but it’s a struggle.
There’s another negative word, struggle. It’s not a struggle but a serious opportunity to right the direction, and set in motion opportunities for success.

Spotted this in an antique store. I’m tempted to go after it, but my right shoulder won’t allow me to lift it.
There’s always a way.
Rider fast and free forever!
