Hey,
I watched the old movie Total Recall last night. Is it nuts or what? I started to think we are living through similar lies. The blue guys use the word Democracy when they want socialism. Hell, someone wants us to be run by the UN. How nuts is that. I’m just waiting from someone from the blue side to wake up and shout, “Bullshit, this is wrong.” And it would be cool if they would reveal the conspirators.
Let’s hit the news. It’s going to be a good one.

DON’T FORGET TO VOTE!--The Silly Season
The term “Silly Season” goes back to the 1800s and refers to a time when journalists faced a dilemma: Washington D.C. is on summer break, European governments are on vacation, but the space newspapers typically devote to politics must still be filled. So, stories about beating the heat and how celebrities are managing would become top headlines.
Fast-forward to 2024, there is no shortage of high drama surrounding politics this summer. Following the assassination attempt on former President Trump in Pennsylvania, he was declared the official Republican nominee at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. President Biden has now declared he will not run for reelection, so journalists will overanalyze how the Democrats will address choosing their nominee by the end of their National Convention in Chicago next month. Plus, difficult as this may be to believe, this week will start the 100-day countdown to Election Day on November 5th!
While much of the focus will be on the race for the White House, we motorcyclists must not lose sight of the other critical races. All 435 members of the U.S. House of Representatives are up for reelection and 35 U.S. Senate seats are being contested. The balance of power in both houses of Congress is razor thin, so just one or two seats can swing control from one party to the other.
At the state level, eleven (11) states will have the Governor’s office on the ballot. Amazingly, 5,793 state legislative seats from coast to coast will also be decided, in addition to determining the thousands, if not tens of thousands, of local offices.
2024 is shaping up to be a tremendously busy year in politics. If the last few years have taught us one thing - elections matter. Whether you are a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian or Independent, having your voice heard is important!
The Motorcycle Riders Foundation has a long track record of working with lawmakers from all political parties. So, no matter who comes to Washington, D.C., the MRF is ready to defend the rights of ALL bikers!
Stay engaged!

THE EVOLUTION OF FREEDOM—from the IMA, Independent Motorcycle Aftermarket
If you think about it, the evolution of the internal combustion engine is closely tied to increased freedoms for Americans. From the early 1900s motorcycles and cars opened new means for travel to more places. At the time the internal combustion engine won over electric and steam engines.
Back then there were no mandates. There was evolution, the market and a battle of innovation and resources to achieve the best result. There was no infrastructure initially to support motorcycles and cars. People were not told they had to give up their horses and carriages in favor of potential internal combustion jobs and economic expansion. Internal combustion engines, roads, bridges, and geographical expansion evolved over time at a natural pace.
The American Dream did not come from an easy sleep. It evolved from inventions, hard work and every generation up until the most recent, was able to pass on greater opportunities to their children for a better life.
Today, our government (government agencies and some politicians) think we’re doomed, therefore they must mandate us to act. The current mandates for manufacturers to increase electric vehicle production with no national infrastructure in place to support those mandates is absurd and will put stress points on existing infrastructure and citizens alike. Added to the mandates are the timelines to kill the internal combustion engine long before an electric charging infrastructure is in place. In the short term, politicians and regulators are trying to make owning or even working on an internal combustion engines restricted. This is a not-so-subtle attack on our freedoms.
We must protect the Right to Repair, protect the Right to Modify, protect the right to own and operate a vintage motorcycle (among others). By joining together to protect our lifestyle and freedoms we are putting regulatory agencies and Congress on notice, these freedoms are valuable and worth protecting.
Today’s internal combustion engines run cleaner and more efficiently than at any time in the history. Eliminating internal combustion will not change climate. CO2 is not only good for the planet, but vital. When you look at global warming for the past couple hundred years, the records show that the temperature is getting warmer. However, when proxy data from prehistoric times is examined, there’s a much different story. Cold is way more dangerous than heat. More CO2 benefits life on earth. Less CO2 can and will kill plant life and us. A 100 years ago the planet starved for more CO2. In a sense the Fossil Fuel industry saved the planet.
Let evolution and innovation happen naturally. There are systems being designed to turn plastic waste, even old tires back into fuels and energy. It may have a natural component. The earth is producing more crude oil as I write this.
Forced “solutions” behind an unproven doomsday scenario won’t solve anything.
We should continue to co-develop internal combustion, electric and hydrogen technologies. If electric vehicles do indeed solve a problem let it prove itself in a real world open market. Evolution does not happen overnight or because of government or bureaucratic mandates.
Evolution caused the horse and carriage jockeys to switch to internal combustion cars and motorcycles. And evolution may cause many of us to switch to vehicles powered by alternate means other than internal combustion if they work.
Barely one hundred years ago, cities as large as New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles had stables close to houses and feed bins in work environments. There was no “movement” to force horse owners to get rid of their horses as the internal combustion gradually replaced horse drawn carriages.
The Independent Motorcycle Aftermarket was formed to protect our choices and keep government mandates at bay. Together with the Motorcycle Riders Foundation we will protect our lifestyle and our way of life!
I enjoy freedom.
Think about your freedom with this quote from song writer, Billy Joe Shaver, “With a pocket full of cash and a tank full of gas, you’re free.” With an electric vehicle and digital currency, you’re controlled.

LIVE INTERNET UPDATES: Major global IT outage grounds flights, hits banks and businesses around the world
The problem was caused by a “defect found in a single content update for Windows” from the cybersecurity company CrowdStrike.
Cybersecurity company CrowdStrike said that a sensor configuration update to its Falcon platform “triggered a logic error” and led to computer crashes.
In a summary of technical details released by the company following a global outage that led to canceled flights and other disruptions, CrowdStrike said that “we are doing a thorough root cause analysis to determine how this logic flaw occurred.”
Falcon is a cloud-based system used to block cyberattacks. The company said that “sensor configuration updates” are part of its protection mechanism. It said it will update its findings as the root cause analysis continues.
Why Home Computers Were Not Affected By Global Microsoft Outage...
CrowdStrike's products are predominantly used by major organisations needing robust cyber attack protection and are rarely found on home PCs. CrowdStrike is a cybersecurity company that deploys cloud solutions to companies. They have about 1,000-user minimum licencing requirements, so your end user at home wouldn't be using it.

"Home Grown"
In David's words, "I saw this old Airstream with a vintage scooter strapped to it and thought, only in America would you see a rig like this. So taking some artistic license magic, I thought, why not have it drive through the ultra patriotic Mount Rushmore Park and reflect the presidents on the side?!
Well it wasn’t easy to get all this to happen in one composition, but here is my attempt! I particularly like the bright yellow beacon of this '39 Indian Scout".

SORRY, NO CLIMATE DOOMSDAY. FOSSIL FUELS RULE--Energy Sound Bites on Fossil Fuels, Part 1
Easy-to-remember arguments for using more fossil fuels
For four years now, ETP has had fun breaking down every imaginable energy, environmental, and climate issue down into brief, self-contained “talking points” that are easy to understand and share.
Today, I am sharing a new, even shorter form of ETP: Energy Sound Bites. The goal of Energy Sound Bites is to distill key facts and insights about energy, environmental, and climate issues into a form—100 characters or less—that’s short enough to remember and repeat whenever you need them.
I’ll start the Energy Sound Bites series with one of my favorite topics: the future of fossil fuels.
At root, there are 3 core truths about the future of fossil fuels:
Today, I’ll share some Energy Sound Bites to support the first core truth: We must think about fossil fuels in a balanced way.
We must think about fossil fuels in a balanced way.
Most “experts” look at the negatives of fossil fuels but ignore huge positives.
Many “experts” ignore that much of the world would starve without fertilizer from natural gas.
Many “experts” ignore that much of the world would starve without oil-powered agricultural machines.
Fixating on the negatives and ignoring the positives of any technology is deadly.
If we just looked at the negatives of antibiotics and ignored the positives, billions would die.
To decide what to do about fossil fuels we must be balanced, looking at both negatives and positives.
We can’t just look at how warming increases heat waves, we also must look at lives saved from cold.
A huge, ignored climate positive we get from fossil fuels is the ability to master climate danger.
Fossil fueled cooling allows us to dramatically reduce danger from heat.
Fossil fueled heating allows us to dramatically reduce danger from cold.
Fossil fueled irrigation allows us to dramatically reduce danger from drought.
Fossil fueled evacuation systems allow us to dramatically reduce danger from storms.
Fossil fueled climate mastery has helped us become safer than ever from climate.
The climate death rate has decreased by 98% over the last century as fossil fuel use has risen.
Climate disaster deaths
Sadly most “experts” ignore fossil fuels’ climate positives, including climate mastery.
The IPCC’s 1000+ page climate reports ignore all the ways fossil fuels increase climate safety.
In weighing fossil fuels’ positives and negatives, we must be precise—not exaggerate or fabricate.
Sadly many “experts” exaggerate the negatives of fossil fuels in addition to ignoring the positives.
Al Gore portrays 20 ft sea level rise as imminent when extreme UN projections are 3 ft / 100 years.
If we carefully weigh fossil fuels’ positives and negatives, it becomes clear we need more of them.
Next up: Only by using fossil fuels can 8 billion people have the energy they need to survive and flourish.

HISTORIC LEARNIN’ FROM COMPETITION DISTRIBUTING-- Johnny Albright & Fred Whittler
Indian-mounted Johnny Albright (left) was involved right from the start. He is seen here at the first Los Angeles motordrome in 1910. On his right is Merkel factory rider Fred Whittler, who at the time was the winningest motordrome rider in country. Both riders appear to be a little “heavy set,” but actually had pillows stuffed under their jerseys to cushion the g-forces pushing them down on their gas tanks.

FROM PLASTIC WASTE TO ELECTRONIC DEVICES--
A new study conducted by researchers at UD and Argonne National Laboratory shows how waste Styrofoam can be transformed into polymers for electronics.
A new study conducted by researchers from the University of Delaware and Argonne National Laboratory describes a chemical reaction that can convert Styrofoam into a high-value conducting polymer known as PEDOT:PSS. Published in JACS Au, the study also demonstrates how upgraded plastic waste can be successfully incorporated into functional electronic devices, including silicon-based hybrid solar cells and organic electrochemical transistors.
The research group of corresponding author Laure Kayser, assistant professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering in UD’s College of Engineering with a joint appointment in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences, regularly works with PEDOT:PSS, a polymer that has both electronic and ionic conductivity, and was interested in finding ways to synthesize this material from plastic waste.
After connecting with Argonne chemist David Kaphan during an event hosted by UD’s research office, the research teams at UD and Argonne began evaluating the hypothesis that PEDOT:PSS could be made by sulfonating polystyrene, a synthetic plastic found in many types of disposable containers and packing materials.
Sulfonation is a common chemical reaction where a hydrogen atom is replaced by sulfonic acid; the process is used to create a variety of products such as dyes, drugs and ion exchange resins. These reactions can either be “hard“ (with higher conversion efficiency but that require caustic reagents) or “soft” (a less efficient method but one that uses milder materials).
In this paper, the researchers wanted to find something in the middle: "A reagent that is efficient enough to get really high degrees of functionalization but that doesn't mess up your polymer chain,” Kayser explained.
The researchers first turned to a method described in a previous study for sulfonating small molecules, one that showed promising results in terms of efficiency and yield, using 1,3-Disulfonic acid imidazolium chloride ([Dsim]Cl). But adding functional groups onto a polymer is more challenging than for a small molecule, the researchers explained, because not only are unwanted byproducts harder to separate, any small errors in the polymer chain can change its overall properties.
To address this challenge, the researchers embarked on many months of trial and error to find the optimal conditions that minimized side reactions, said Kelsey Koutsoukos, a materials science doctoral candidate and second author of this paper.
“We screened different organic solvents, different molar ratios of the sulfonating agent, and evaluated different temperatures and times to see which conditions were the best for achieving high degrees of sulfonation,” he said.
The researchers were able to find reaction conditions that resulted in high polymer sulfonation, minimal defects and high efficiency, all while using a mild sulfonating agent. And because the researchers were able to use polystyrene, specifically waste Styrofoam, as a starting material, their method also represents an efficient way to convert plastic waste into PEDOT:PSS.
Once the researchers had PEDOT:PSS in hand, they were able to compare how their waste-derived polymer performed compared to commercially available PEDOT:PSS.
