Hey,

There’s a secret.
Another challenging week on the home front. I was told by the city to call for an inspection and they would arrive within 24 hours. I called on Monday. No one has called or come over, yet.

Now, I could look at this from several perspectives. The Secret tells us to look at it from the absolutely best overall perspective. It’s all good and the inspector will come at just the right time for the most wonderful results, and we will live happily ever after.

We’ve had several visitors staying over at the headquarters also this week. One is an extremely well educated and talented woman who has be fighting depression for sometime, severe depression. She is beginning to understand how to change her thoughts from down to up.

Smoke Out is the Burning Man of motorcycle events--it ain't no Born Free.

Another friend and his family just rode across the country in order to fly to Hawaii to visit a service friend in a leper colony on the island Malakai. It’s now a bed and breakfast joint. Edge, the producer of the SmokeOut is facing business challenges and has a friend with serious cancer.

Let’s hit it.

NEWS FROM MRF OFFICES IN WASHINGTON D.C.--
Happy to inform you that I received word that last evening, Representatives Reid Ribble (R-WI) and Tim Walberg (R-MI) introduced H.Res.831 – “Promoting awareness of motorcycle profiling and encourage collaboration and communication with the motorcycle community and law enforcement officials to prevent instances of profiling.”

This is the first step in addressing motorcycle profiling from a national perspective. Please note that this is a RESOLUTION and therefore is not legally enforceable, however it will help pave the way for future action and also can be used as a discussion piece as certain states work to pass bills addressing the issue at the local level.

I have attached the measure to this email. Note that the version I have does not yet have a bill number, but it has been reported out as H.Res.831 if you want to search on congress.gov. The measure has been referred to the Committee on Judiciary.

Now begins our hard word of securing additional co-sponsors for the proposal and trying to get a companion introduced in the Senate. We have our work cut out for us especially given the limited number of legislative days before the end of the session in 2016.

As many of you know, Congress is adjourning today in preparation for the political conventions over the next two weeks. Then, starting in August, they will be back in their home districts. This is a great opportunity for you to meet with your elected official in person and request their support for this resolution.

I will be in touch in the coming days to provide you with additional analysis as well as talking points you should feel free to use in conversations with your Member of Congress in order to get them signed on as a co-sponsor to H.Res.831.

Thanks to everyone for their support.

“I Shot One Of Them,” Brevard Deputy Tells 911--
Deputy Yousef Hafza has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the June 19 shooting.

Clarence Howard, 25, left, died after a shooting June 19, 2016. Off-duty BCSO deputy Yousef Hafza is charged in the shooting.

State investigators released several 9-1-1 calls Wednesday detailing the moments after an off-duty Brevard County sheriff’s deputy said he shot a 25-year-old man during an apparent road rage incident on Father’s Day morning.

The deputy, Yousef Hafza, has since been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the June 19 shooting death of Clarence Howard. He also faces an attempted second-degree murder charge for firing on the driver of the car involved.

“Hey, listen … I’m an off-duty deputy and I just had some guys try to attack me…I shot one of them” said the 32-year-old officer, during the first portion of his six-minute long call. He initially sounded calm as he told dispatchers he had been chased by two men in a dark-colored Honda.

Initially the state agency did not release the 9-1-1 call for help by the driver, a man identified as Howard’s brother-in-law. But the call, the first made to police reporting the shooting, was released later Wednesday after requests by FLORIDA TODAY.

"Help me! Help me! Help me! (He's) been shot," shouted Howard's brother-in law as dispatchers tried to glean details of the late-morning shooting.

"Breathe, (expletive) breathe," the brother-in-law's frantic pleas becoming screams for help on the desolate highway. "Oh my God," the man said, sobbing after he told dispatchers how a man got out of his vehicle and opened fire on them.

Family members and friends of Howard, who will hold a balloon release for the victim in Palm Bay on Saturday, also called for prayers and forgiveness for Hafza, while noting that they believe he should go to trial or make a plea in the case.

The incident unfolded as Howard and the driver, who went to get air for a bicycle tire, were traveling westbound on Emerson Drive in Palm Bay and encountered Hafza in his vehicle. They then ended up at St. Johns Heritage Parkway. Once there, reports show Hafza stopped his car, prompting Howard and the other man to get out of their vehicle.
Authorities said Hafza never identified himself as a deputy or called 9-1-1 to report the incident before shooting.

Six shell casings from Hafza's department-issued .40 caliber gun were found about 50 feet from where Howard collapsed after being shot under the right arm, investigators reported. Howard was paralyzed instantly, according to arrest documents obtained by FLORIDA TODAY.

What's the difference between a southern zoo and a northern zoo? -The southern zoo has a description of the animal along with a recipe.

COWS

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 12 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow.

MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION ON MOTMS--
Each year as we approach Meeting of the Minds, we usually have some challenge going on with regard to membership. Typically, this is just the best recruiter, and/or the top recruiting states by percentage of membership. We do this because we want to recognize those states who do a great job keeping our organization and our movement strong.

Membership is the backbone of the MRF, and we rely on our members to take action when called upon. We also rely on their membership dollars to help pay for the services we provide – whether the MRF reports, our website, or other printed material and collateral to help propagate our messages.

We also recognize that many States’ Motorcycle Rights Organizations are also having membership retention issues, and the MRF is not immune. In fact, it’s a trickle down-effect, which year-after-year causes us to consider cutting back on services to keep our organization viable. The MRF Board has taken a number of steps to reduce costs, but we can’t continue this forever without making noticeable cuts in what you see and perceive to be valuable.

Please contact those members who’ve expired, or are expiring. Encourage them to renew and if not, find out why. Contact those who are members, thank them for their continued support, and encourage them to invite their friends to join!

If you require assistance in messaging or other support, please reach out to any of us – we stand ready to assist you!

“Riding with the leaders” requires all of us to be leaders. Thank-you for being a leader by helping to rebuild our membership!

Have a great weekend everyone! It's been over a week since I've been on my bike and I already know what I will be doing this weekend. The curse of the office being a half of a mile from my place is that riding seems foolish.

DISTRACTED DRIVERS From New Mexico--
Increase in motorcycle crashes in New Mexico: We are at 117 motorcycle crashes reported to the NMMRO in 2016 with 25 fatalities. At this time last year there were only 81 crashes reported to us. Below is a story KOB featured on the Onagers MC Distracted Driving Run on July 9th and Biker blessing by local motorcycle ministries.

--Annette Torrez
NM MRF Rep

Bikers from several motorcycle groups trekked across the city Saturday to draw attention to distracted driving.

More than 200 motorcycle riders rode from the Duke City Harley Davidson store at 8603 Lomas Blvd. to Thunderbird Harley Davidson at 5000 Alameda Blvd.

Motorcycles are at particular risk when other drivers are not paying attention to the road, said Jonathan “Blinker” Cannon, a member of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association. He said three CVMA members crashed as a result of distracted drivers.

“The first member to crash was actually a hit-and-run,” Cannon said. “We are out there and we are being killed by distracted drivers."

TOUGH LUCK FOR YOSHIMURA SUZUKI RIDERS AT SOUTHWICK--

The Motocross Championship to the Wick 338, in Southwick, Massachusetts, did not go according to plan for Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing. Although Blake Baggett was able to pilot his RM-Z to a solid eighth in qualifying and fill-in rider, Matt Bisceglia led the first laps of the consolation race, their day ended early after tumbles sidelined both riders.

Baggett crashed in timed qualifying and again in the first moto, tweaking the shoulder he injured early in the season. He struggled to a 24th-place finish in the first moto and elected not to start the second.

Bisceglia fell hard while leading the consolation race by a large margin. After a trip to the local hospital he learned that he had sustained fractured ribs and a partially collapsed lung from the incident.

For Baggett the return to Southwick began with a hard get off in the second practice session. In spite of the fall he’d been able to push his Yoshimura Suzuki RM-Z450 to a time of 2:04.948, good enough for a solid eighth in timed qualifying.

“I had the big crash in practice number two and dodged a bullet,” Baggett explained. “It was one of the biggest ones I’ve had. I just made a little mistake and over-jumped the tabletop and had a big get-off at the bottom.

“I got 24th in the first moto. I went down in the first turn and the shoulder was just too weak and I decided to call it quits for today. It’s definitely not what I’d hoped for. I hated pulling out and not fighting to the end, but I think it was our best option.”

Bisceglia had a tough time in qualifying, but seemed to get things turned around in the 450 Consolation Race, where he sprinted off to an early lead aboard his Suzuki RM-Z450. He was well on his way to qualifying for the national, when he too was unlucky and went down.

“Matt worked his way to the front and had about a five-second lead,” explained Yoshimura Suzuki team manager Mike Webb. “He scrubbed a roller and his foot dragged across the top of the jump and kind of pulled him off the bike. Unfortunately, he went down pretty hard.”

The Yoshimura Suzuki squad now heads to Millville, Minnesota and the Spring Creek National this coming Saturday, July 16th. Live coverage begins at 11:00 am Eastern on www.promotocross.com. The motos can also be viewed on MAVTV and NBCSN.

AUTHOR BILL HAYES AND JENNIFER TO BE MARRIED AT THE LAVISH AND MONUMENTAL BIKERNET HEADQUARTERS—

IRWINDALE DRAGSTRIP THURSDAY NIGHT THERAPY & SUNDAY AFTERNOON SPEED --

LA County's Only Weekly Dragstrip!
Every Thursday night*, from 5 to 10pm, Irwindale Dragstrip holds special on-track therapy sessions for licensed drivers of all ages right in their own cars, light trucks, and motorcycles.

Aggression is safely focused, tensions are released, and that old devil "need for speed" is satisfied in a safe (yet spectacular) fashion.

Otherwise know as NHRA Street Legal Drag Racing Test and Tune sessions ... The opportunity to let one's car all out (against the clock or lined up with another machine) is the real draw, and, for many, highly therapeutic.

The eighth-mile (660 foot) drag strip at Irwindale is the place where hundreds of street-smart drivers head every Thursday night to try to extract the maximum performance from their cars as well as themselves.

These are very intelligent men and women of all ages and stations, each of them intent on having some serious fun with their cars under conditions that are not patently dangerous either for themselves or for others.

They also really want the ability to fairly judge their own performance and the performance of their vehicles, and that's p;art of the deal at a NHRA-sanctioned track like Irwindale with its electronically calibrated starting and timing system.

SUNDAY, SUNDAY SUNDAY! And ... once one gets good at "cutting a light" on Thursday nights and the thirst for competition gets really going, there's the NHRA Summit Series, a set of very hotly-contested races in four sharply-divided and intensely-competitive division that run on six Sundays at the Speedway.

AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame to induct Gloria Struck, Ronnie Jones in October ceremony-- First members of Class of 2016 announced

Motorcycling enthusiast and pioneer Gloria Struck and dirt-track racer Ronnie Jones will be among the honorees that the American Motorcyclist Association welcomes to the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame this October.

"It's my pleasure to announce the first two members of the Class of 2016," said Ken Ford, a member of the AMA board of directors and chairman of the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation board. "Gloria Struck has inspired generations of women to take up motorcycling for both sport and pleasure, and she remains a vibrant reminder of the emotional connection we can have with two wheels. Ronnie Jones fielded one of the most successful privateer professional dirt-track careers in history, and his accomplishments rank among his era's most impressive."

The 2016 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held during the American International Motorcycle Expo, which runs Oct. 13-16 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

The Class of 2016 includes three competition category inductees, three non-competition category inductees and two inductees from the well-qualified category. The well-qualified category was created to recognize candidates whose accomplishments have taken place outside the public eye but have played a significant role in motorcycling.

Struck and Jones, both from the well-qualified category, are the first two inductees announced for 2016.

Born in 1925 in an apartment attached to her family's motorcycle shop in Clifton, N.J., Gloria Tramontin Struck is the reigning matriarch of the women's riding community. A member of the Motor Maids since 1946, she embodies the mission of the organization by riding her Harley-Davidson to events such as Sturgis and Daytona from her New Jersey home.

In her lifetime, Struck has ridden in all 48 continental states several times over as well as in Europe. In the 1950s, she earned continental notoriety by completing a high-profile adventure ride in Canada from Toronto to Montreal.

Riding as a privateer, Ronnie Jones collected 10 AMA Grand National Championship wins and 32 podium finishes from 1980 through 1995. He finished in the top 10 of the series in 11 consecutive seasons and scored Grand National points in 21 consecutive seasons. Jones also scored wins in three of the four dirt-track disciplines of short track, TT and Half-mile, and just missed scoring a Mile victory several times, finishing in the runner-up position five times.

Although Jones retired from full-time competition after the 1999 season, he continued to race select events through 2014. During his most recent campaign, he set a record by scoring AMA Grand National Championship points 35 years after his rookie Expert season.

The AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame induction ceremony is open to the public and, for the third consecutive year, takes place in conjunction with AIMExpo. AIMExpo brings together consumers, dealers, manufacturers, and the world press in one location for global product launches, demo rides, motorcycling seminars, and much more.

Tickets to the 2016 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be available soon at MailFilterGateway has detected a possible fraud attempt from "r20.rs6.net" claiming to be www.americanmotorcyclist.com.

The Salt Flats being what they are . Can there be any salt added via way of salt water to fresh water reclamation systems ? There would be salt left over after the water is converted for consumption ? It just might not be financeable .
