Hang On,

This news is packed with controversy and the fight for Freedom.
I do my best to avoid politics, but I’m looking hard for a solution. Just after I wrote my Brief Manifesto, the EPA and SEMA had a meeting about new regulations. They will basically ban all car, truck, and motorcycle performance products.

If I’m not mistaken, the EPA was formed by the federal government as an advisory committee, but became a regulatory body that doesn’t answer to the government. In fact they could ban the Federal government and the government couldn’t stop them. So, of course they ignored SEMA and just announced new regulations are coming.

You’ll see the report below. I think it’s time for a change.

Let’s hit the news before I find a bottle of whiskey. The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by Cycle Source Magazine, Iron Trader, and ChopperTown.

After a lifetime of motorcycle riding and almost three decades of leading Samson Exhaust, the legendary “Godfather of Pipes”, CEO and Founder of the iconic Samson Exhaust, Kenny Price, is looking to ride off into the sunset and retire.

Samson Exhaust was officially founded in 1991 with the mission to build great looking pipes that you would be proud of. In the lifetime of Samson Exhaust, the company has built and sold hundreds of thousands of exhaust systems for Harley-Davidson and other makes of motorcycles.

Throughout the years Samson Exhaust has been the worlds’ leading aftermarket exhaust company for Harley Davidson motorcycles. Many of the popular styles you see today were invented by Kenny Price himself. Styles like true dual crossovers, a multitude of Big Guns, Cholos and beyond. Samson set a standard of quality that is common today among all exhaust companies.

There is a cult following behind the Samson Exhaust’s brand. Motorcyclists from all over the world ride Samson equipped bikes, and swear by the pipes they have purchased. Samson customers are riders of passion and very loyal to the brand.

However, now Kenny would like to pass on this legacy to a new loving owner. Someone who will share his philosophy of giving customers what they deserve. A great product for a fair price and a style all their own.

Replacing Alienation with Cooperation on Track for Bonneville Salt Flats Restoration

Back-to-back years of wet weather, coupled with years of federal mismanagement, has created unsafe surface conditions and ramped up frustrations among the land speed racing community. Save the Salt Coalition and the Utah Alliance recognized that adversarial postures would contribute nothing to the restoration of the Bonneville Salt Flats, an Area of Critical Environmental Concern, and instead spent the past six months cultivating new, productive relationships with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Intrepid Potash- Wendover, and elected representatives on city, state and federal levels.

The result was an unprecedented improvement in communication and cooperation between the BLM and the land speed racing community. Numerous substantive conversations percolated a vigorous exchange of information, ideas and documents. Chief among them is the possibility of withdrawing all 10 mineral leases located north of Interstate 80 from future mining.

The racing community contends that Bonneville lost millions of tons of salt over many decades due to the leases. However, only three percent of Intrepid-Potash’s current annual production is derived from all 10 leases combined. The mining company is willing to abandon the leases altogether so long as no other competitor is allowed to take them over.

We have asked the BLM to investigate the appropriate process to withdraw the 10 leases from all future mining. Normally it is a cumbersome federal process that can take years, but we are working with both BLM staff and elected officials to speed the effort.

Additionally, we are patiently waiting for the delivery of the Bingham Report, a comprehensive engineering document commissioned by the Save the Salt Coalition and Utah Alliance with short- and long-term recommendations for restoring Bonneville. This document forms the basis of the land speed racing community’s position statement.

Among the action items will be: a plan to maximize the brine return program volume as well as control the brine return by creating a containment area; protect the already fragile salt surface from additional mud drift; closing the I-80 culverts to retain laydown brine flow; shift from voluntary to mandatory salt return; require measurement, monitoring, reporting, and analysis of the salt return amounts as well as salt extracted from areas that could impact the international speedway; actively evaluate alternative mechanisms and processes for salt return.

The Save the Salt Foundation (StS) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to restore the world-famous Bonneville Salt Flats. The Utah Alliance (UA) is a volunteer Utah-based advocacy group using its expertise and contacts at the local level to protect this Historic Place listed on the National Register.

The Save the Salt Coalition (StSc) is an umbrella group comprised of automotive and motorsports companies and organizations with a vested interest in this national treasure. All three organizations are collaborating to keep the Bonneville Salt Flats available for future generations.

The DARWIN AWARDS are finally out!--

The annual honor is given to the persons who did the gene pool the biggest service by killing themselves in the most extraordinarily stupid way.

Last year's winner was the fellow who was killed by a Coke machine which toppled over on top of him as he was attempting to tip a free soda out.

Read on … and remember that each and every one of these is TRUE.

And the nominees were:

Semifinalist #1
A young Canadian man, searching for a way of getting drunk cheaply, because he had no money with which to buy alcohol, mixed gasoline with milk.

Not surprisingly, this concoction made him ill, and he vomited into the fireplace in his house. The resulting explosion and fire burned his house down, killing both him and his sister.

Semifinalist #2

Three Brazilian men were flying in a light aircraft at low altitude when another plane approached. It appears that they decided to moon the occupants of the other plane, but lost control of their own aircraft and crashed. They were all found dead in the wreckage with their pants around their ankles.

See more in the Sunday Post this weekend. Incredible.

More Xarelto Lawsuits Filed in New Year - January 29, 2016

Since the start of the new year, more than 400 additional lawsuits relating to the medication Xarelto have been filed. The lawsuits allege that patients weren’t warned of the increased risk of bleeding associated with the medication.

Next generation anticoagulants like Xarelto have been marketed as easier to use than traditional anticoagulants because, unlike the older medications, they don’t require blood monitoring. However, many of these medications do not have an antidote, and a number of patients suffered hemorrhages and other serious bleeding events that could have been detected with regular blood monitoring.

Bellweather trials have been scheduled for early 2017, but it’s not too late for affected individuals to file suit. Currently, more than 3,000 lawsuits related to the medication are pending. The Xarelto manufacturers aren’t the only ones facing legal challenges; lawsuits have been filed against a number of newer-generation anticoagulant manufacturers for the same reason.

EASYRIDERS Cincinnati V-Twin Show: Still The One Dealer and Aftermarket Show specifically devoted to the V-Twin Industry.

Things are seldom quite the same actually as they are in misty memory. In the mid-2000s, the V-Twin Show in Cincinnati was a frenzy of new products, sales orders and reconnection with friends; the veritable kickoff to the riding season for American V-Twin motorcycle companies and riders.

That said, it was the afternoon of Sunday, Feb. 7, of the 2016 show and I still hadn’t caught up with everyone I wanted to see. Perhaps everything that happened all those years before was simply setting us up to pursue prosperity in the here and now.

V-Twin Exhibitors vowed to return to the show next year – and every year – saying it’s the place where the American motorcycle market gathers. That’s still true and it’s up to us to make that point to riders everywhere. You can learn all you want on the ubiquitous internet but there’s no substitute for one-to-one communication and that’s what the V-Twin Show provides.

You just have to participate.

Philosophy aside, let’s talk about new products, because that’s always been the V-Twin Show’s forte’ – and that hasn’t changed.

Kuryakyn debuted their RoadThunder® by MTX line, an exclusive collection of high-performance motorcycle audio products. Initial products include handlebar-mount self-amplified Sound Bars and 3-inch Speaker Pods with or without the Bluetooth® Audio Controller for pairing to any Bluetooth-enabled device. There’s also a high-powered direct replacement Fairing Speaker Kit for select Harley-Davidson® Electra Glide, Street Glide and Trike models.

The XKürsion® luggage line from Kuryakyn has two new options that mount on virtually any motorcycle. The XTR1.5 (MSRP: $189.99) and XTR4.0 (MSRP: $229.99) Seat/Rack Bags both offer riders plenty of versatile features ideal for short getaways or the everyday commute. Visit

New to the exhibitor roster at the V-Twin show was Love Jugs who introduced their newly engineered Vibration Master. It’s an attractive and heavy-duty method of mounting your Love Jugs to your engine via the Harley horn mounting bracket. Two stainless vibration dampers replace the stock Harley vibration damper to position Love Jugs for maximum cooling effectiveness; installs in minutes.

The S&S T-143 engine is still big news and the company just introduced an Indian airfilter. Bigger yet, in every way, is the 4 ½” version of the S&S Powertune exhaust system, launched at the V-Twin show. “Not that there needed to be anther exhaust manufacturer in the industry but there needed to be one that added performance,” said the rep we talked with. Point taken! S&S IS the performance company in the V-Twin realm. And we’re told it’s not phantom power but real horsepower, real gains.

Custom Cycle Engineering, CCE, continues to solve problems for owners of older models. Their Swingarm Upgrade Kit is intended to repair a cracked or broken unit on early FXR/FLH motorcycles, upgrading it to the newer forged version.

Among the new items from JIMS Machine are: a Remote Fuel Supply for fuel injected motorcycles; a Late Model Neck Bearing Tool, a Late Model Compensator Bolt Torx Socket; and two XL items: a Primary Lock Bar and Sprocket Nut Socket. For more details on these and other fine shop tools from JIMS, visit

Biker’s Choice launched their Black Brand line of gear in Cincinnati and it’s impressive. The brand promises quality, rider-engineered gear at mid-level pricing and solid designs.

So many practical features are included and there are lots of upscale touches such as branded seam tape, super-strong leather hanging hooks, and subtle gearhead touches - but no overt branding, suiting riders of all makes of machines. Here’s a link to the Black Brand video.

As for company news, Rivera Primo reports that their move is complete, from the Whittier, CA location they occupied for 43 years (!) to a 70,000 sq.ft. facility in Santa Barbara County. Sales offices moved to Paramount, CA.

S&S Cycle leaked news related to their presence in the exhaust market: this March they’ll be commencing production at a separate exhaust manufacturing facility in Lacrosse, WI. Watch for more news about this!
