Riding on the road with minimal streetlights can sometimes be difficult. Seeing at night on deserted roads or any road requires bright lights especially if there are no streetlights. I decided to research headlights to see if there was one Harley-Davidson made that did have extended light beams to fit my 2023 Softail Standard

What I found is the 5.75 Daymaker Reflector LED Headlight. The low beam performance produces a wide curb-to-curb pattern and the high beam delivers additional vision down the road, definitely a feature I am looking for, so I got it.

My new headlight arrived, and the first thing I did was read my directions. The directions pointed to looking at the service manual for installment. The reason included procedure differences for various models. With my keen instructor, I was able to obtain the instructions through his vast library of service manuals.

I started by unscrewing the screw and nut fastening the bezel onto the headlight. Note: Pay attention to how the nut goes in the bevel.

Removing the headlight from its housing wasn’t as simple as it looked. You might think it would just come out when the bezel screw and wiring connector were removed.

Surprise: The screw holding the headlight to the mounting bracket would not come out without also removing bracket. No problem.

Once the headlight was out of the housing, I removed the isolator bracket off the old headlight. The new light was placed on a soft cloth to prevent any scratching. The bracket was installed with 4 screws and blue thread locker

I have been informed by my instructor the isolator bracket is a new improvement to the LED light which prevents vibrations while riding. The torque used for this install is 6.5-8.0 ft-lbs.

Installing the headlight back into the housing was a simple procedure, but one I had to pay attention to.

I made sure I had the headlight wiring connected and correctly locked in place.

I then inserted it into the housing and joined it to the mounting bracket.

The mounting bracket uses a pin and a bolt to make sure it is pointing forward and not slightly off at an angle.

Before I securely tightened the light completely, I tested it and made sure it shined at the correct height and direction. There is a procedure in the service manual on how to align the headlight.

Because this was the first time changing a headlight I was being really careful, and I found the instructions included were not enough for me to do this install without further instructions from the service manual. Having completed this I now know the next time will be easier.

That night I took my Softail out to the road and wanted to see how far to the right and left my new LED light would shine. The light beam splayed far from the white line on both sides of the road so I could see much farther.

Great decision to upgrade!
