SPS WORK TRUCK
THE STORY BEHIND THE RIDE

Hottie side
Sucker Punch Sally’s “Work Truck”. No not the girl.

So I started working for SPS about a year ago and have been helping them with their marketing and PR. When I first saw some of Jeff and Donny’s bikes at Michael Lichter’s studio in Boulder I knew that I had found a couple of like-minded bike builders.

The bikes were clean and simple, nothing too fancy but sweet looking.

When I got my first bike in 1992, a Yamaha RD400D, I immediately wanted to cut it apart and strip it down to a bare bones flat tracker. Unfortunately it never ran long enough for me to do anything to it, other than make it run.

I have had a bunch of bikes since that time and have liked them all for different reasons, but none of them even compared to the SPS Work Truck. Getting this bike was all about being patient and not compromising on what I wanted. I knew that I wanted something rideable, reliable and affordable, no fancy paint, minimal chrome and just a headlight and taillight. I saw pictures of Jeff’s “Work Truck”, which he swears is just all the extra parts he had at the shop, and knew I wanted that bike. Unfortunately it wasn’t for sale, and I wasn’t sure I could convince my wife that it would be cool to own two bikes at the time.

Hottie up
No, not the wife.

I ended up selling my other bike and told my wife, “You can have that kid you’re carrying, if I get an SPS.” I called Jeff, just after she threw something at me. I thought he sold the “Work Truck” so I started rattling off specs about what I wanted and he said “Why don’t you just buy the ‘Work Truck’?”

We struck a deal and I was in seventh heaven.

The bike is basic, nuts and bolts but doesn’t require a lot of cleaning because of its rat-bike look. It has a stock geometry wishbone-style frame, 80-inch Evo, 4-speed kick only and an open 3-inch BDL belt drive. I have only had it for about a month, and I am guessing I have about 1000 miles on it.

Ken still
Ken finally on his baby.

It is a rigid, but it rides great and is very maneuverable. You can get Jeff and the crew at Sucker Punch Sally’s to build you one like it just give him a call at (513)353-2803 or visit them on the Web at www.suckerpunchsallys.com.

SPS base model
Here's a SPS base model. Can't beat 'em.

P.S. She had the baby, a boy. His name is Elvis and better love rock ‘n’ roll and motorcycles. It’s the code of the west.

Ken rolling
See ya.
