After a high speed wobble caused me to wreck the Bikernet Baggers Project bike, I spent the next few months looking for a cause and solution to the high speed wobbles that Harley - Davidson Touring chassis's are known for.
 
This research lead not only to a couple great articles that can be found here. 
 
but also to a plan to build a Bagger that would be as wobble free as possible, by using products from our sponsors.
 
First thing we needed was a strong frame that will combine the neck geometry of the FXR chassis with the required bag mounting points of the FLT.
 
A call was put out to Paughco with the request for a FLT frame with 35 degrees of Rake instead of the FLT's standard 26 degrees.  Now Paughco has been building frames for longer than I have been alive so I really wasn't surprised when I was informed that the Frame I wanted to order was available in their catalog as Part #R147AFLT.

Late Touring Model Frames 
For Rubber-Mount Drivetrains
 
These frames are set up for the following components that must be purchased separately:
 

• FXWG or FXST front ends
• Engine and transmission for Touring models

• 1997–up Touring model snap-on side covers
• 1997–up Touring model fenders and          saddlebags

• 1997–up stock guard rails and highway bars

• 1998 Road King gas tank and seat

• 1999–up forward controls for Touring models

As Paughco was busy bending tubing and getting it all welded together on the frame jig I was tearing thru catalogs and making lists of the parts the new 5-Ball Bagger was going to need to get from a wrecked pile of parts to a rolling chassis.

Deciding to order the frame with a 35 degree neck angle means that we will not be using the factory reverse triple trees and has caused many a late night debate session on what type of front fork assembly to go with. Do we choose a Hydraulic style fork with raked triple trees or a Springer. In the End I believe the Springer with a 21 inch front wheel has won out and will be ordered from Paughco Shortly.
 
 
Knowing that the Factory rubber Cleve Blocks used to hold the Engine and Swingarm in the Chassis allow flex that is neither needed or wanted, I put the Call out to Custom Cycle Engineering for a Spherical Bearing Upgrade that will replace the rubber cleve blocs. Between the Paughco Frame and Springer and the Spherical Bearing upgrade we should have a wobble free Rolling Chassis just waiting for final assembly.

So what else in the works for the 5-Ball Bagger, We plan on  only reusing the Engine and transmission from the original bike as pretty much every other part outside of the Saddlemen seat was either bent, broke, or destroyed as she flipped multiple times trying to rid herself of parts she didn't think necessary.
 
 
The Bags will be replaced with 4 inch stretched GTO bags from Johnny Mac's Chopper house, These bags are built right here in the USA and are rugged and have the style I am looking for. To see how the GTO bags are built check out the fabrication process here.

We will also be using Parts from Belt Drives Limited/GMA to put the finishing touches such as Brakes, Controls, floorboards and anything else we can find that the 5-ball bagger can not do without.
