Hey,

This is a striking week
with the return of the Badlands run survivors and the H-D new model launch. Brothers are stunned and questioning.

In this area of Los Angeles, you rarely see Softails. They are dangerous due to the limited, lowered turning radius and wide frame width, but they have been that way since the beginning.

What you see roaming LA streets are Dynas and lots of them, even Sportsters. The brothers have shifted from bobbers and baggers to performance Dynas. Of course the Sons of Another Mother had a major impact.

Maybe this factory shift will continue to ultimately bring the FXR back. With a little ergonomic adjustments, the FXR could see a resurgence. Actually, all the touring models are built on the FXR platform since the rubbermounted shift. Let me know your thoughts.

I love the factory’s bent toward freedom and I hope it truly evolves into an honest freedom effort for all motorcyclists and the aftermarket. We need to support our brothers in this rapidly changing world.

VALERIE THOMPSON NEWS--
World’s Fastest Female Motorcycle Racer to attempt third world speed record for Denis Manning led Team “7” Racing

Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials create worldwide film stage for Team “7” Racing and Valerie Thompson battling for World’s Fastest Motorcycle title

Valerie Thompson and American Motorcycle Association Hall Of Fame member Denis Manning return to the world’s fastest race course for the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials at the Salt Flats, August 26-31, on a mission to rewrite motorsports history by breaking the land speed record of 376.36 mph (605.69 km/h) with the famed Team “7” Streamliner (aka BUB 7).

Thompson stunned the racing world at last year’s trials with a speed of 304.263 mph (489.663 km/h) piloting the Manning designed “7” Streamliner on only her fifth run, becoming the first female rider over 300 mph and earning the Fastest Time of the Meet award.

The current record, set in 2010 by the Top 1 Ack Attack team, was formerly held twice by the Manning designed and built “BUB 7” Streamliner, setting the stage for an all out battle for the “world’s fastest motorcycle” title.

The quest for the title is being captured on film by P-51 Pictures and Executive Producer Dana Brown, creators of “Dust to Glory,” “On Any Sunday” and the award-winning “Out of Nothing” motorcycle racing documentary. P-51 crews have followed the teams for more than 12 months filming the land speed-racing documentary, “Rockets & Titans,” scheduled for worldwide theater distribution in 2018.

P-51 Pictures will utilize a crew of more than twenty technicians to film highlights of the speed trials both on and off the track. Asked if the movie related activity is a distraction, Thompson said, “Believe it or not, no. The film crew is very professional and easy to work with. More importantly, I’m delighted land speed racing will get a worldwide stage through this documentary. It’s excellent exposure for sponsors like TROON Inc., Vision Wheel, ilium Works, Wheels Through Time and who make it possible for us to chase our dreams.”

Thompson has seven land speed records on a variety of bikes ranging from Harley-Davidson’s to BMW’s and is a member of six-land speed racing 200 MPH Clubs. Breaking the current record would be her first in a streamliner.

“I set my first record at Bonneville in 2006 and fell in love with land speed racing where you can keep the throttle open and push the equipment to its ultimate limit. I’ve prepared for this moment since then, so I’m anxious to get back on the salt,” said Thompson. “With Denis Manning leading the best team I’ve ever worked with, I know the bike has the power. It all comes down to track conditions, weather and me hitting my marks,” stated a determined Thompson.

Manning started racing at Bonneville as a teenager, earning his first world speed record at age 24 as builder of Cal Rayborn’s 1970 entry, reaching a top speed of 265 mph. “I’ve pursued this dream with my family for over 40 years, a dream I hope to fulfill with Team “7” Racing and three generations of Manning’s,” said Manning. He added, “I’m confident we’ve properly prepared the vehicle, especially considering the expertise of Team “7” owners Jon Jans and Joe Harrelson who are ‘best in class’ machinist and builders. I know Valerie is more than ready. She dreams about Bonneville as much as I do.”

If seven is truly a lucky number, look for Thompson, Manning and Team “7” Racing celebrating a dream come true on the Salt Flats of Bonneville.

BIKER’S CHOICE AND Twin Power Introduces New Rear Chain Conversion Kits--
Following the success of the Cush Drive Chain Conversion Kits introduced earlier this year, Twin Power is proud to introduce a new line of chain conversion kits for 1986 – 2000 FXR, 1986-2006 FLH, 1991 – 2005 Dyna, 1991 – 2005 Sportster, 2006 – 2017 Dyna, and 2007 – 2017 Softail models.

The new rear chain conversion kit from Twin Power.

“Changing from belt to chain drive is a must for high load, high horsepower and racing applications. Anyone who’s ever been stranded due to a broken belt knows this,” says James Simonelli, Twin Power Brand Manager. “These kits take the guesswork out of converting your bike from belt to chain drive and are designed for stock chassis and wheel applications. Kits duplicate the factory belt drive ratio, but additional sprockets are available to adjust for specific conditions.”

Kits include a 4140-heat-treated steel transmission sprocket, transmission sprocket spacer, fully machined (not stamped) heat-treated steel rear sprocket with a textured black powder-coated finish, dual bolt pattern sprocket spacer (where applicable), and grade 9 hardware (where applicable). Just add your favorite 530 x 120 link rear chain and cut to size.

“Drive chain is like religion and politics; everyone has their favorite,” says Simonelli. “We leave it up to the end user to pick their desired brand and type of which Biker’s Choice offers a wide assortment.”

All components are proudly Made in the USA.

The Twin Power Rear Chain Conversion Kits (P/Ns 217452 through 217454) retail starting at $219.00. The kit can be ordered through your local Tucker Rocky | Biker’s Choice dealer.

QUICK, OPEN THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY--
A man goes to see the Rabbi. "Rabbi, something terrible is happening and I have to talk to you about it."

The Rabbi asked, "What's wrong?"

The man replied, "My wife is going to poison me."

The Rabbi, very surprised by this, asks, "How can that be?"

The man then pleads, "I'm telling you, I'm certain she's going to poison me. What should I do?"

The Rabbi then offers, "Tell you what. Let me talk to her, I'll see what I can find out and I'll let you know."

A week later the Rabbi calls the man and says, "I spoke to your wife on the phone for three hours. You want my advice?”

The man said, "Yes, please."

"Take the poison."

APOLOGIES TO DEBBIE EVANS

The information was right in front of me and I still got it wrong. Debbie, the "Queen of Motorcycle Stunts" has had an extraordinary career, but it didn't include the ISDT. As the only woman to compete in the 1978 Scottish Six Day Trial, she amazed even her biggest skeptics when she finished 3rd in the 175cc class and 107th overall out of 280. Can't wait to see the video at the banquet.

BRAND New Bikernet Reader Comment!--

INCREDIBLE BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for August 17, 2017

Hi Soda Lee

The issue with many (not all) Confederate monuments is that they were installed in response to the civil rights movement of the 1960s as a form of intimidation rather than part of the Civil War. I don't think the monuments should be destroyed but placed in more appropriate locations.

For example the Tennessee Stone Mountain monument should be preserved. It is impossible to be moved. The statues in Congress are part of the national narrative.

To put it in perspective when I flew into Frankfurt Germany I noticed that a large area was pox marked. When I asked about it I was told it was to remind the citizens of what they had done in WWII.

Are you just testing me to see if I still read the news? "more sniveling about V-Rods from Johnny Humble,"....I didn't know I had an assignment coming due and have been battening down the hatches preparing for Hurricane Harvey, so if you are expecting something from me, I am surprised to be hearing about it.

NEWS FROM THE AMA— Michigan raised registration and training fees. The additional fees, 2 bucks per, will go to the motorcycle safety education program, while some fees will fund a new awareness program.

BEWARE and MONITOR CLOSELY - Florida did this and there were serious issues with how the money was spent, who got some of it and what else it was used for.

If you live in Florida I suggest you watch closely who is trying to get these funds now and what their past record is.
Starting a new organization - New Name - Same people as old motorcycle rights organization that got funds and then audited for misuse.

If any state collects fees for education it should be used for that and Nothing Else.
