Hey,

It’s a day of progress.
Franky will get his Tattoo Dyna ready for a trip to Bennett’s Performance on Saturday.

He worked out a Tattoo Deal to get his FXR rear belt replaced. The lastest Horse magazine arrived in the mail yesterday. We heard they were in trouble, but up pops a new issue.

Parts arrived for my strange Panhead project from J&P Cycle and Franky delivered them to Bob Bennett for the rebuild.

The master painter Deny is almost finished with the ’64, ’69, and ’79 Panhead paint job. What the hell?

We have high hopes for the Easyriders pending deal. It came after the auction deal didn’t work, but this deal was initiated by the auction, so maybe the auction didn’t fail. “Still working on it,” said Joe Teresi, the publisher this morning. “No news!”

Our mural is scrambling along. I have a meeting regarding my VA benefits on Friday. I did three tours in Vietnam on the first fleet flag ship. I came back unaware of the physical impact.

I’m still trying to find the perfect Pickup for Bikernet. I’m looking for around a 2012 Ford F150 with an extended cab and long bed. I’m going to drive it to Kugal Customs for a couple of mods, then doctor it with Bikernet bling and drive away.

Let’s hit the news:

The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by companies who also dig Freedom including: Cycle Source Magazine, the MRF, Las Vegas Bikefest, Iron Trader News, ChopperTown and BorntoRide.com, Sturgis Museum.

BIKERNET TRIKES ROADTESTS THE NEW POLARIS SLINGSHOT--
First Drive — 2018 Polaris Slingshot

How much fun can one have on three wheels? We found the answer with Polaris' new 2018 line of road-hugging screamers.

Admittedly, this contraption looks more like a car or an autocycle than a motorcycle or even a trike. In the eyes of the law in the US, it actually is a motorcycle, and that's why we'll see us driving it on the streets wearing a helmet (we drove it in California).

Anyway let's get hit the 'Go' switch on the 2018 Polaris Slingshot line of open-air cockpit roadsters. Whether you think it's a car or not, it looks like it could be fun...

UM Motorcycles launch Commando Classic and Mojave in India--
In May 2017 Bikernet.com broke the news of smaller player UM Motorcycles of USA launching an All-India scale dealership with their two models. They are in the prime segment where budget of the buyer, pricing, goodies offered and style quotient all meet to decide if the biker buys an Enfield or a Bajaj Avenger or the new player UM Motorcycles of USA.

https://www.bikernet.com/pages/UM_Motorcycles_USA_comes_to_India.aspx

UM Motorcycles has increased the size of their line-up in India from two to four by launching the Commando Classic and Commando Mojave in India, at a price of Rs 1.89 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and Rs 1.80 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), respectively.

Both the new motorcycles sport the same 280cc engine that is present on the first two models they launched in India, the Renegade Commando and Renegade Sport S. It is capable of producing 24.80hp at 8,500rpm and peak torque of 23Nm at 7,000rpm.

The Commando Classic has typical cruiser styling while the Commando Mojave has a more rugged appearance, due to minimal bodywork and matte paint.

All the motorcycles made by UM Motorcycles are typically pitted against Royal Enfield machines. They even have a more advanced engine than RE but the cult following of RE in India will be hard for UM Motorcycles to crack.

Harley-Davidson, Triumph, Indian, Ducati are marked under Premium Segment where the motorcycles cost as much as a sedan car from Mercedes, BMW or Audi.

Royal Enfield launched its distribution center in Brazil to expand into Latin America market. Looks like the Latinos are fighting back with UM of USA targeting the largest two-wheeler market that exists only in India. Competition is heating up in the East. I ask sincerely, where are the Japanese brands? Japanese bikes are fast losing ground in India.

BILL DODGE TO DANCE WITH LORETTA LYNN--
Bill Dodge’s “BC Moto Invitational” to feature hand-crafted motorcycle builders during the Tennessee Motorcycles & Music Revival

The Tennessee Motorcycles and Music Revival, a 4 day event celebrating all things “Motorcycles and Music” at the historic Loretta Lynn Ranch announces Bill Dodge’s “BC Moto Invitational”, a custom motorcycle show featuring hand selected craftsmen and women displaying some of the country’s best custom motorcycles.

Bill Dodge himself has chosen what he calls a “top section” of some of the most talented custom motorcycle builders in the country to display their talents during the event. Bill knows a thing or two about quality craftsmanship, a full time custom motorcycle builder since 1990, Bill not only builds impressive bikes to look at, but also he builds bikes that are to be ridden, ridden hard. In other words, it is an honor for these builders to be hand selected by Bill Dodge.

“This is great honor for me, to be able to invite builders that I’ve admired for years, and some builders I feel are the ones to watch.” States Bill Dodge

Guests will have the opportunity to not only see these custom motorcycles up close, but also to talk with each builder during the 4-day event. The hand-selected list of builders includes; Anthony Marinaro, Ben Jordan, Bob Wells, Bobby Middelton, Brad Barnes, Brian Elliot, Bryan Lane, Carsten Fritzen, Chris Avellino, Chris Wade, Dan Carr, Eric Allard, Eric Stein, Jeff Wright, Jeff Cochran, Jeremy Cupp, Johnny Humphrey, Kevin Bean’re, Mitch “Maggo” Bodine, Roadside Marty, Matt Harris, Micahel Lewis, Pat Patterson, Paul Wideman, Rhett Holley, Rich Phillips, Rich Ryan, Rod Davis, Rusty Nash, Steve Pieffer, Steve Broyles, Wade Harlan, Will Ramsey, Zach Johnson, Craig Rodsmith and Christian Sosa.

The Tennessee Motorcycles and Music Revival event will host motorcycle riders of all makes, models and years at one of the most storied and beautiful ranches in the great state of Tennessee, the Loretta Lynn Ranch, September 28- October 1. The event will feature more than 25 bands, including headliners John Anderson, A Thousand Horses and The Kentucky Headhunters.

Also the event offers a variety of entertainment including Steve Trevino, Netflix comedy star, hooligan style racing with the mayor of fun himself, Bean’re, Hogway Speedway racing pigs, Rhett Rhotten’s Wall of Death, Nashville food trucks, Southern Bucks mechanical bull, premium and primitive camping sites, vendors and plenty of riding on some of the most beautiful roads in America.

All makes and models of motorcycles are welcome at Tennessee Motorcycles and Music Revival.

It is important to note that Loretta Lynn’s Tennessee Motorcycles and Music Revival is not associated in any way with any other previous events in the area.

Loretta Lynn and family have hosted the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship for nearly 40 years and decided to host their own event to cater to the motorcycle-riding community at large. This special event benefits from the gracious hospitality of Country Music Legend, Loretta Lynn.

“We’ve been having motorcycles here forever with the AMA, and all year long thousands of people riding in to camp at the Ranch. This is what we do here, and I’m so excited for this new one to happen.” shared Loretta Lynn.

Ride-in campers will enjoy a stunning location along Hurricane Creek with easy access to the event hub, concert stage, vendors, entertainment, food court and bars. Tow vehicles, motor coaches, small and larger RV’s will all have a variety of options available. Weekend passes, daily passes and a limited number of VIP passes will be offered.

“The goal of this event is to feature music representative of the incredible musicians, song-writers and performers of the area and to fulfill what many motorcycle enthusiasts have been asking for - a destination event in a unique location that celebrates the rhythm of a great road trip,” says event spokesperson and family member, Tayla Lynn. “While motorcyclists know what it takes to have a good ride, adding a great destination can make for the perfect trip. Ride the rolling hills of Tennessee, visit the area’s unique attractions, and come back to Loretta’s Ranch for fun and great music, custom motorcycles, and racing fun with fellow riders.”

Also very important to note is Tennessee Motorcycles and Music Revival will support a variety of military organizations, including Mission 22 and Flags 4 Vets.

More detailed information including band and musician schedules, Loretta’s Mission 22 Charity Ride and plenty more can be found at www.motorcyclesandmusic.com

IRMA HURRICANE UPDATE FROM CRUISING OUTPOST--
This photo by Ulla Gotfredsen shows the devastation in the BVI's (Tortola) from Hurricane Irma, expected to start up the East Coast of Florida on Sunday.

Link to Weather Underground
Report from our Weather Guru, Lee Chesneau

35 year Senior Weather Analyst for NOAA, 20 years as the U.S. Navy Senior Forecaster. "As of 9 PM Wednesday evening, powerful Hurricane IRMA will maintain its severe intensity and will not change much; perhaps a slight decrease in core winds as the storm center will interface the north coast of the Dominican Republic and Cuba on Thursday & Friday.

However, it will still be an EXTREME Hurricane! The storm's track is in a stable WNW steering current and will remains so for the next 24-hours. After that, look for IRMA to slow down and begin a turn to a more NW to northerly track. The threat of direct hurricane impacts in Florida over the weekend and early next week has significantly increased!!

HARDY ALLEN R.I.P.
1932 - 2017

Hardy Allen passed away on Monday, August 21. Most of us remember him from Ascot, as tuner for Al Gunter and others, but his skills with a wrench were known, respected and appreciated in many motor sports around the world. In the 50s and 60s he was Crew Chief for Dan Gurney's All American Racers and for A.J. Foyt Ent. and familiar face on Gasoline Alley at Indy.

It all started with a Soap Box Derby car, which he built and raced. Hardy also raced cars & motorcycles. He was everyone's best friend. He was kind, considerate and full of good humor. We grieve for this very special man. Count yourself privileged if you knew him.

He is interred at the VA Cemetery in Phoenix. Cards can be sent to his family at: 12111 Wilsey Way, Poway, CA 92064-2805. There are photos and more information at www.welsmann.net/rip-hardy-allen

In fact the 3 day Revival is coming up next week, from September 8th to 10th. Not too late to fly to England , but check to make sure it isn't sold out. Get on the list for next year. You will need time to assemble your costume.

The dress code is from 1948 to 1966, to celebrate the original era of racing at Goodwood. Dress up is not compulsory, but you can't enter the paddocks without looking the part. Goodwood is a fantastic estate owned by Lord March with a road race track large enough to have a landing strip in the center. It is a must see, must do.

Meanwhile, check out the Gala and rub elbows with his Lordship.
