New York Police Dept Goes Scootering

NYPDscooter

The NYPD is looking at an electric, ultra-quiet scooter to foil the bad guys in Gotham City. They will begin road testing four of the Vectrix scooters in February of 2008. Vectrix, the world’s first high performance, two-wheel zero emission vehicle (ZEV), reduces traffic congestion, pollution of the environment, hassles with finding a parking place, and high gas prices.

Vectrix Maxi-Scooter is an all-electric two-wheeler that is assembled in Poland and is freeway legal and gives off zero pollutants, while operating at minimal cost (electricity runs roughly one-tenth the price of gasoline). It can travel 40 to 60 miles per two-hour charge and gets up to 60 mph.

The New York Police department may be able to sneak up on the bad guys with this whisper-quiet scooter. On the other hand, who has ever seen a quiet police vehicle? And who knows what all the lights, radios and police equipment will do to drain the electrical charge. Even so, the NYPD is looking to significantly reduce their carbon footprint and are testing a handful of hybrid cars and flex-fuel vehicles.
