New Victory Vegas: an Innovative
Victory Custom Order Program
Generates Big Buzz at Annual Sturgis Rally--
That buzz you heard emanating from the 2002 Sturgis Races & Rally was
all about Victory Motorcycles. Motorcyclists from around the world
packed the Victory exhibit in downtown Sturgis, S.D., for a look at
the all-new Victory Vegas, the stunningly stylish new custom
cruiser, and to build their dream bikes through the Victory Custom
Order Program.
The downtown Victory exhibit was a must-see element of the annual
motorcycle event that attracts hundreds of thousands of riders to
South Dakota's Black Hills in early August.
Enthusiasts kept Victory computer kiosks busy day after day as
they "custom built" their dream Victorys using the Victory Custom
Order Program. This innovative new program lets riders customize
their new 2003 Victory, choosing its bodywork color, engine and frame
colors, wheels and tires, and deciding whether to have a Deluxe
Touring Package factory-installed. Consumers can order their custom
bikes from Victory dealers through September 27, 2002.
"The Vegas" was the star of the show at Sturgis. I'd call it the best
Sturgis ever for Victory, which is saying something because we've
hosted some spectacular product introductions there," said Victory
General Manager Mark Blackwell. "We didn't have a flashy public
Vegas" unveiling because the bike had already been introduced on our
website. Yet our downtown exhibit was packed 'round the clock every
day as people got their first look at the Vegas up close. They also
loved custom-building 2003 Victorys using the Victory Custom Order
Program, choosing their bikes' colors and features on the computer
monitors."
The downtown Sturgis Victory exhibit featured a display of all
three 2003 models-the Vegas, Classic Cruiser and Touring Cruiser-as
well as Victory Custom Concept bikes, video displays, and computer
kiosks where consumers "custom-built" their new Victorys.
Motorists on I-90 were treated to giant images of 2003 Victory models
on an immense Jumbotron-style display screen positioned next to the
freeway during the week of Sturgis activities. Videos promoting the
Victory Vegas and the Victory Custom Order Program were shown in a
regular rotation on the screen. The images on the screen were clearly
visible even in daylight, and they were stunning at night against the
dark Dakota sky.
Just outside Sturgis, Victory hosted demo rides that let riders
experience the power, great handling, and easy shifting of the 2003
Classic Cruiser and Touring Cruiser. All three Victory models are
powered by the Freedom V-twin, a 92-cubic-inch air- and oil-cooled
engine with electronic fuel injection and overhead cams. Each of the
18 bikes in the demo fleet was unique, representing the wide variety
of colors and equipment combinations available to buyers who utilize
the Victory Custom Order Program.
Master custom builders Arlen Ness and his son Cory Ness spent time at
the Victory exhibit and drew crowds everywhere they went when each
rode around Sturgis on a Vegas. The Nesses are consultants for
Victory and provided valuable input during the development of the
Vegas. The new model was designed by the Victory Industrial Design
Team.
Victory owners from across North America got together on August 7
for the annual Victory Owners Ride in the mountains outside Sturgis.
They enjoyed some great riding, lunch, and Victory camaraderie.
