Custom Chrome’s Yearly Dazzler

Dealer Heaven in Santa Cruz

Text and Photos By Oz

The Bikernet Crew loaded up and headed for Santa Clara for what’s becoming one of the most talked about events in the aftermarket world. If it’s the last weekend in September, and you’re a motorcycle dealer who wants to know which parts are going to be hot next year, you’d better be at Custom Chrome’s Dealer Show.

This event features CCI’s top suppliers’ new parts in a preview for all the folks that make up the CCI family of local dealers. The brass lays out a major spread on Saturday night and decorates the hall with all the new scooters from Big Dog, Titan, Ultra and the other clone manufactures. Bandit and I prowled the party doin’ the grip and grin thing while we passed out business cards and stickers. I was beat and headed in early, leaving Bandit at the Sports Bar. The next day I used a hand truck and loaded Bandit on to the plane, giving the pilot instructions to push him out the door when they got in the vicinity of San Pedro. Then we headed off to the show to check out the hardware.

We ran into the guys from Belt Drives Limited first off. Steve Yetske is an innovator of the first order. Stop by his page on bikernet and give it a look.

The RevTech engine display was a show stopper sitting on an engine dyno.

Rod Sokoloski, R&D chief, and Dale Pulde, ace funny car pilot and combustion chamber magician, were representing Edelbrock and showcasing their latest stuff.

The show is not all fun and games. Working the booth, partying hard and talking to all the dealers takes its toll on the participants as evidenced by this shot of Jesse James.

The guys from JIMS were out in force, lining up the latest engine and trans goodies. Check out JIMS Bikernet page and take a gander at his new barrels for twin cams.

Phil Day and a couple of itinerant Hamsters were teaching frame basics to the crowd and watching everyone put a Daytec frame on their wish list.

Eric Herman was having a great day. Word is that he sold his latest painting, even in an unfinished state.

Kenny Price had the Samson operation up and running at full speed showing off all the new pipes.

Need a 230 rear tire? Want the very best in road rubber? The Venom-X is the ticket and AVON makes them. They had people standing around in awe at the giant 230.

We closed out the show with a drop by at our old friend, Bob Le Pera’s booth. Bob makes the sweetest seats you ever rested your weary bones on.

Well the show was great and the partying was killer, but nothing lasts forever. We were just hitting our stride when it was time to head back to the keyboard and pound out a few more ones and zeros, and keep getting you the latest and greatest biker info on the planet.

Later, Oz.
