Web sites are interesting in so many respects. One aspect is accounting. We can and do receive monthly readership reports. We can’t mess with 'em. They’re handled through Web Trends accounting software. We print them out and read the results. That’s the extent of our involvement, except we can share the results with you.
When I started Bikernet.com I had no notion of traffic levels. We just worked hard and hoped readers responded. I truly believe our society was forced into a learning curve, which was especially taxing for motorcyclists. We needed to learn how and why the internet was of any use. I only came face to face with it through producing Bikernet. The more I worked on it, the more I discovered it’s uses and capabilities.
Hell, the more it grows the more abilities pop to the surface. Below are some numbers that carry us from 2003 until 2006. For some years I’ve averaged them to show our growth, and in the future I’ll update this report to show the direction Bikernet is taking. Don’t hesitate to contact me, if you want additional info, have a question, or a suggestion to better our growth. --Bandit
We don’t have many records still available from 2003,
but we did have the December report:
The number I track the most is the Unique User number. That’s the lowest number and the one representing the number of individuals who come to Bikernet.com in a month. If they come back that adds to the Visits number. At the end of the month that info is erased and we start fresh.
This is an average of the monthly reporting:
I compare our unique user number to magazine circulations as a bench mark. It’s not exactly accurate, since how can I compare a unique user (or impression number) to a paid circulation number? Then again, how can a give-away mag compare their print numbers to paid circulation numbers or my stats. It’s just a bench mark. If you know 125,000 folks buy Easyriders each month and 250,000 come to Bikernet, that’s not bad.
This is an average of monthly Bikernet.com numbers.
I discovered, through another motorcycle web site, that ad agencies look at the Impression number when figuring the CPM (cost per thousand readers). That makes our CPM around 40 cents compared to 40 dollars for many magazines. That’s outta line, so I figured I would go with our unique user number, which brought our CPM to around $2 for a one-year Sponsorship contract. We are going to raise our rates to $4 a CPM in 2007. Still a very reasonable number considering what we deliver, compared to magazine rates.
This is an average of our number up to October of 2006.
BIKERNET NUMBERS UP FOR MARCH 2007--We have a Web Trends software system linked to Bikernet constantly. It reads our numbers 24 hours a day and we download a report every month. Over the last three years readership has grown more than 285 percent. Here’s our numbers for March:

2008 Number update: We had our biggest month in our history during July:
Our readership has climbed over 287 percent in the last three years. That’s incredible. We’ve jumped from 4.3 million hits to 8.9 million a month and 278,000 to 561,000 visitors. We will use this page to deliver updates on our progress as Bikernet grows. Don’t hesitate to contact us, if you have any questions, comments or suggestions. I wrote the following in the news last week, and I believe it’s a good code to live by: I’m hoping a few more good, reputable companies come on board before the end of the year and we develop a strong team for 2007. I like to represent highly regarded, quality companies to our readers. It’s a damn good thought and direction, and I’m stickin’ with it. Ride Forever --Bandit
Wait There's More: We're now scrambling through 2009. In April our numbers
were
very strong:
In May we topped those number:
BIKERNET NUMBERS REPORT FOR AUGUST OF 2009--Okay, we buckled. Another site complained about the readership numbers we posted in a press release, even called me a liar. I took offense to that, since we have never lied about our Web Trends numbers. This skinny individual told us that Web Trends doesn't count and we need to run with Google Analytics for proper numbers. I asked around the web industry and never received confirmation that one source was better than another, but recently we decided to hook up Google Analytics for a comparison. So here ya go from both sources. According to Google our reach over the last three months has improved 12 percent, our page views increased 52 percent and something else about the site improved 36 percent (I can't find that puppy again). That's odd, August is usually a down month since so many riders are in the Badlands or on the road to somewhere. Here's the numbers after just one month with Google. We'll see, over the next three months how the Google numbers and Web Trends stack up. Web Trends:
Google Analytics:
I'm still getting my feet wet with this bullshit, but I discovered a couple of interesting facts from the Google Analytics Bikernet Report. Over 18 percent of our readers came back to Bikernet between 15 and 200 times during August. We also discovered that 30 percent of our readership spend between 3 minutes and 30 minutes when they visit Bikernet. There's our report from August. Don't hesitate to contact us if we can be of any additional assistance. Again, I'm just getting my feet wet with this report. I'll learn more as time flies and we deliver more updates. Ride Forever, --K.R. Ball
