Creating An Absolute Custom

Then, I discovered that the front section of the frame was cosmetically boring because it was the only area on the bike sans a custom accent. I decide to weld an upside down V to continue the theme I developed.
I called Tim & Donna to let them know they could fly to Florida to check a full mock-up of Surreal Huze. They were as excited as our staff and approved all custom aspect right away, and our meeting was spent entirely shooting pictures for the family album.
While Carlo was in charge of molding & priming the frame, fenders, gas tank, oil bag, front end, triple trees, bars, inner primary and coils (did we forget something?), Jeff Phipps, the Hot Rod Wizard was in charge of upholstering the seat. I would have liked a 100% stingray seat (instead of the traditional insert in the middle of leather), but it's impossible: stingray is rough and would scratch paint. So, we cheated by stopping the stingray just at the seat edge, before it came in contact with the frame.
All frame parts were loaded in the shop trailer, and headed in the direction of Charlotte, NC where Wayne Springs sprayed several coats of fine metallic Pavo Purple from House Of Kolor. I was obliged to take to the road missing a few keys parts: the gas tank inserts still not plated. They were sent by FedEx to Charlotte where Jim Bortles (Carolina H-D), husband of JoAnn (Crazy Horse Painting) helped me to test different epoxies to attach the inserts.
Finally, inserts belonged to the tank, and were masked to go in the paint booth.
My best time as a builder comes when I install a freshly painted frame on a clean lift. Confident that the mock up phase anticipated any possible problem. I fully enjoy each step of the reassembly. "Surreal Huze" didn't create any difficulty, except that I found out, at the last minute, that no aftermarket hydraulic clutch cover fits on a 6-speed Baker transmission. Hey, Bert Baker, you forgot to tell me (since then, Baker is offering an hydraulic cover). A small modification, and the problem was resolved. On to Page 3 Back to Page 1 Back to the
