Billy Lane's Fat Ford Chop

The concept for this bike developed as I went along. The bike was the one I had originally planned to do for Bikernet. I mentioned to Bandit over a year ago that I wanted to do a frame with no rear axle adjustment. That was a challenge, probably the most difficult thing I've done. My intentions at that time were to use a Wide Glide and Evo. I bought the Indian Springer at a Daytona swap meet, and that changed the whole look of the bike considerably. The grill turned up on the side of the road in Kingman, Ariz., on Route 66 of all places, during the Laughlin Run 2000. It was badly damaged around the edges with pieces missing, so I trimmed it down and noticed that it closely resembled my stretched Sportster gas tank shape. The old styling kind of took hold at that point, and I followed it through the rest of the bike.
