Again a used Softail was a Street Stalker experiment, and of course the sour-as-old-wine, bastard failed in his
attempt to build a sharp looking enough scoot to be considered by the factory for their Street Stalker
competition.
There was only one rule, only factory parts. Bandit, being Bandit broke the rule with Custom Cycle Engineering
dogbone risers, a Paul Yaffee side mount license plate bracket, Dewey machined air cleaner cover and
Bartels’ own, one-off shotgun exhaust system (from the FXR and Dyna). Bartels and Departure Bike Works in
Richmond, Virginia, handled the performance. Actually the pipes were stolen from the Dyna when it was sold. It
made the trip to Sturgis in 1998 with flying colors.
