AVON TYRE QUESTION OF THE WEEK--We had a reader ask about mounting a rear tire on the front. They wanted to know if they needed to reverse the arrow. I pointed out that the tread pattern is designed to push water away from the tire patch, for improved rain traction, so mount the tire with the arrow going the correct direction. Suk from Avon had the following to add: Also the way the tread is laid. When I tire is mounted on the rear the tread is laid one way to work with acceleration forces and the opposite way when mounted on the front to work with braking forces and prevent a tread splice. Customer should also consider, with that wide in front, it will slow down steering. And I would suggest the Venom 160/80-16 AM42 as the Elan is over 5 years old and the compound gets harder every year so less grip and more prone to cracking. --Sukoshi Fahey (Ms.)
